I'm not really a big fan of Megadeth. Never heard much... So Metallica of course.
I'm open to recommendations though.

Three words. Rust. In. Peace.
Also United Abominations and Peace Sells... But Who's Buying. All great albums. But Rust In Peace is (arguably) Megadeth's Master of Puppets. While most would say Peace Sells would fit that description, Rust was a much better album. Every song, except for probably Lucretia, which is a good song but doesnt do anything for me, is great. Five Magics is easily their most underrated, most underplayed song. The solo's are amazing.
As for myself, I cant say. I've been into both for the same amount of time. I own more Metallica CD's though, but Megadeth has been more consistent. Really, St. Anger or United Abominations? I will wait till Metallica's new album comes out before I have a definitive answer, but for now Metallica, just because Cliff Burton was such a bad ass.
I have to say Megadeth,I prefer Dave M.s voice over Metallica too.....although there are a handful of Metallica songs I really like, like:
I Disappear
Fuel
Its Electric
Seek and Destroy
Where ever I may Roam
Megadeth by far. I'm finding myself having to force myself to listen to Metallica more and more. I just have to be in the mood for it, it seems. I think it's the horrible sounding drums.
I find Megadeths stuff more interesting to listen to: odd time signitures, complex unique riffs, different tones; and yet you can always tell it's Mustaine playing.

he wrote most of ride the lightning. Most of Kill em All. Infact, theres riffs Dave Mustaine still used in spite of them.

Ride the Lightning and Kill em All are not "all the good Metallica stuff."Edit: I am not saying they are bad by any means btw, I am just saying that they aren't all that's good.

Master of Puppets is pretty good too. i was on a Metallica kick for a while, but now I think theyre highly overrated. SO "the good stuff" is highly subjective.
Metallica isn't overrated at all, they just have a huge fanbase.Juggernaut140
I think theyre overrated.
Metallica because everything before Load was completely awesome.IrishPunk
Exactly!! Metallica has become band of skate rocker fans now
metallica by far. only song i liked from megadeth was "symphony of distruction"hot_juicy_steak
Go listen to Wake up Dead, Tornado of Souls, Mechanix (the song Four Horseman came from) and Chosen Ones

They sucked and pretty much marked Megadeth's "downfall".

Cliff Burton wrote more stuff than Mustaine. Cliff almost did the whole Lightning album, while Dave did maybe 3 songs on Kill 'em All, and Ktulu.

Yes, but only one song on MOP. And nothing on AJFA, or the Black Album. Great albums, with practically no input from Dave on them.
I like both equally. I commend Megadeth for always making great thrash, where Metallica was stuck in an experimental loop for a long while*prays new album is as good as it sounds*
