I prefer old Metallica to old Megadeth.
Both bands are incredible though.

1980s there was no contest for me...
Metallica was rough, fast, exelent lyrics, vocals and themes, and tore live performances limb from limb.
Megadeth was whatever to me... Dave's voice was the thing that pissed me of the most, tho the songs were preaty nice.
1990s
Megadeth & Metallica both a holy-meh to me... Yeah, Black Album wasnt all that bad, but its still not anywhere near the quality of Kill Em All, RTL, MoP and ...AJFA
2000s
Metallica preaty much hit rock bottom with St. Anger... But damn me, Death Magnetic is preaty awsome :D. Definatly tailing the first 4 albums very close in quality, James's voice isnt as good as it was, and you can see that a decade of hard rock (and Bob Rock...) left its mark on them.
Megadeth is preaty much on a roll, with 3 good albums. Again, Dave's voice isnt all that good to me, but they are about equal to me now.
Lol nah. Megadeth are beat out by any of the big german thrash bands. :P[QUOTE="Darth-Caedus"][QUOTE="chessmaster1989"]
Megadeth > Destruction > Kreator > Sodom
Oyeah, and to answer the poll, Megadeth.

Damn right son...
Face it Chess, German Thrash> Bay Area Thrash.
Overall sure, but Megadeth > German Thrash.
Megadeth is my favortie band so I must vote for them. Unlike most people I like Mustaine's snarling voice, it gives it distiction form other metal/thrash bands. However it is my belief that metallica isnt in the same genre as Meagdeth, or not since pre- black album days. They havent been exactly Thrash Metaly latley.
Overall sure, but Megadeth > German Thrash.chessmaster1989Son, I am disapoint.
That man knows whats up. (Kinda:P )How about neither?
Iron Maiden ftw.

Megadeth.
The Rust In Peace album beats anything Metallica has to offer.
Peace Sells is also a fantastic album.

I go with Metallica because, quite frankly, they just have better songs. Megadeth is probably much more talented, but the songs (even Holy Wars, Tornado of Souls, Peace Sells, ect) just arent as good as Master of Puppets, One, Fade to Black, etc. Overall, Metallica has better and more songs IMO.
I know this is all personal preferrence, but as a fan of both bands, I go with Metallica.
If we're talking about Metallica up to and including The Black Album then I will go with them, otherwise I'd rather listen to my cousin do frigging Brittney Spears covers than anything Metallica has put out in the last decade or so (with the exception of Death Magnetic, even though the whole "returning to their roots" thing just sounds very forced to me it's still not a horrible album).
Anyone who believes they know a sniff about Thrash Metal should say Megadeth, mainly because Metallica's best work came from either Dave Mustaine directly or in some way ripping off his riffs, if you ask me, the king of thrash is Dave Mustaine.
That being said (my choice was obviously Megadeth) Dave Mustaine is a bit of a baby, but damn he knows how to play.
