none of them...
you want THRASH?
Vader
Vio-lence
Kreator
Municipal Waste
Of the 4 you mentioned... Slayer had the best single album... thats about it...
I think Slayer is awful and I've never listened to Anthrax. I've listened to Megadeth and don't care much for the singer's voice. I do love Metallica though. :)
Haven't heard much Slayer or Anthrax... but from what I've heard of Metallica and Megadeth, I'd say they are about equal. Though, after hearing Megadeth's album Endgame and then getting into Death Magnetic... I can safely say that Metallica have found a styIe that I very much appreciate and look for in my metal. Ironically, its very different from all their previous offerings, and at least to my ears, sounds much more musical than their offerings since almost the beginning (Kill 'Em All with Dave Mustaine was brilliant).
With that said, I would be willing to seek out some bands with similar sounds to that in Death Magnetic. I tried Equilibrium yesterday and while their instrumentals are amazing... the grunting vocals just ruin it. I've never understood the appeal of indiscernible grunts as vocals. Given their instrumentals and creative styIe, with a vocalist like Till Lindemann (low, angry, but discernible)... they could have had the next major Rammstein.
Destruction, SODOM, and Kreator are much better then those four.
Regardless though, I prefer Megadeth (big fan of dave), then OLDSlayer, then OLD Metallica, and then all else.
For roughly the twelve trillionth time....Kreator>Sodom>Megadeth>Destruction>Heathen>Megadeth>>>>Slayer>Metallica>>>>>>>>>>>>Anthrax. Darth-CaedusMegadeth twice?
Megadeth . Dave Mustaine is a Crazy Rythem / Lead player i love learning megadeth songs cause theres just so much little stuff in there that makes you appriciate the skill he has . Then i would have to say Slayer they are really great thrash band but when it comes to solos they are not that good except Jeff hannemen , Kerry King is way to sloppy i saw them Anthrax ,Megadeth ,and slayer back in October 21st last year in the gibson amphitheatreIn LA and it was great All the bands were Great just couldnt get over how sloppy kerry king is but overall great show ...
Haha thats a joke Musically they are not . I love SODOM but to say they are better is a joke have you seen them live ? and their music is more lets see how fast we can play ...Destruction, SODOM, and Kreator are much better then those four.

Metallica Megadeth Slayer and Anthrax in that order.
Favourite songs by every band in order,
Metallica - Impossible to decide
Megadeth - Holy Wars
Slayer - Angel of Death
Anthrax - Mad House

I love SODOM but to say they are better is a joke have you seen them live ? and their music is more lets see how fast we can play ...I prefer Kreator's playing/writing over pretty much any thrash metal band. Sodom's production isn't great I agree but I adore the sound they put out. I really just prefer the older sounding songs with a little more aggressiveness to them. I don't have anything against the big four, I love them but I just don't think they bite hard enough.[QUOTE="BornDEAD92"]

Megadeth > Anthrax > Metallica > Slayer
Megadeth tops the list for me. Dave's "singing" style really grew on me, and now I absolutely love this band. Endgame is the finest album of the 00's.
Anthrax comes next. They were the first thrash metal band I got into. Their fun songwriting really keeps me on board... I still laugh every time I read the lyrics to "Caught in a Mosh".
Metallica next. I'm not going to deny, at one point, these guys were brilliant song writers and there are plenty of Metallica songs that I love... but then the 90's came, which bumps them down majorly on my list :P
And finally, Slayer. They're on the bottom of my list simply because I've never listened to them much. I only have Reign in Blood, but getting more Slayer albums isn't at the top of my priority list.
I do love each and every one of these bands though, and while it's unfortunate that all of the bands hit a low at some point in their career (Metallica - Load, ReLoad, St Anger; Megadeth - Risk; Anthrax - Stomp 422, Volume 8; Slayer - Can't really say lol) I'm glad their all back on their way to real thrash. :D

Only one slight problem with this list. I fixed it for you.
I can't believe Kreator are even being compared to any of these bands. German thrash is very different to the sound that the big 4 have
