Now some people own common concepts and ideas? Now honestly I would not be surprised if everyone was just dumb and can't write an original speech but you can't copyright common ideas that have been spoken by millions and act like it is a big deal that they got repeated for the millionth time. This is just more hysteria and jumping on anything that can be jumped on for views.

@Riverwolf007: Really kinda not hysteria as you put it. I would fail a college course if I did what Melania did last night.

@Serraph105: no shit, if any of us turned in someone else's work we would fail. Now we are supposed to pretend these people write their own speeches?

Looks like a very lazy speech writer's work. They'll be looking for a job in the morning.

Every political person uses other peoples material including Obama Micheal, and Biden. Go to Drudge you can find the article there. At least MRS. Trump didn't quote Micheal Obama comment " This is the first time I am proud of my country".

Melania dun ****ed up! XD

EDIT: Good lord, I'm seeing tweets on this defending Melania saying that the left are attacking an immigrant. So yeah, forget that she totally ripped off Michelle's speech.

I googled that and the only relevant result was the breitbart, which is on par with The Onion in reliability. They used these two lines as evidence.

And Barack stood up that day, and he spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about "the world as it is" and "the world as it should be."

This apparently is a copy of this

The standards of judgement must be rooted in the whys and wherefores of life as it is lived, the world as it is, not our wished-for fantasy of the world as it should be.

So no it's just made up nonsense by a right wing blog. Stop reading the Breitbart, your IQ will increase by atleast 50 points the moment you do.

It's not about the concepts and ideas being repeated. It's about the wording. Melania's speech used more than 50 of the same phrases Michelle's speech used. You can express someone else's sentiment, but when you do and it's almost verbatim, then you have plagiarized.

You're exactly right. Many people in politics have little scruples. What I don't get, though, is why you're using this rationale to excuse plagiarism.

@JustPlainLucas: plagiarism of what? The speech Michelle plagerized? Who cares, my entire point was that rousing feel good hard work and diligence speeches all say the exact same thing, have the same points and sound alike.

What speech did Michelle plagiarize?

There's a difference between speeches having common themes and outright plagiarism.

@GreySeal9: don't worry you will see them all. now that this cat is out of the bag I have already seen a pile of articles showing a bunch of other plagiarism comparisons scattered across a half dozen other various political figures. Shit like this blows up becomes a trend and then dies away when the next thing comes up.

If Michelle plagiarized, why can't you just show me what speech she plagiarized from? If she did it, it shouldn't be difficult.

She did plagiarize, but who cares? Trumps a genius, now she's in the spotlight and can play the female victim card that Hillary always done. This was so done on purpose.

You must be a fan if you can turn a convention screw up into a reason to believe in Trump's alleged genius. Unreal.

But seriously, there's no reason to believe Trump sabotaged his own wife.

The "look it up" defense is not going to work.

What speech did Michelle Obama plagiarize?

@GreySeal9: I've done that for people plenty of times and it never works. then they are just unhappy with the source. You need to find a place you like and get it from them. I am cutting out the middle man here because otherwise ot wastes everyone's time.

All you have to do is tell me what speech Michelle Obama plagiarized and then I compare them side by side. So which one?

Getting a little desperate. That has already been addressed in this thread. Check out toastburner's post.

I really don't why you're trying so hard to defend this; even N4D66 admitted it, though he did try to use it as evidence of Trump's genius. The fact that Melania Trump plagiarized the speech is not some indictment on her character. What happened is that Trump, in a pattern of hiring unprofessional people, hired shoddy speechwriters who messed up; Melania was almost certainly not aware that she was giving a plagiarized speech. It's not worth all those mental gymnastics that you're doing.

It's hard to converse with somebody who is so indoctrinated with a person who is clearly a criminal. So I let a little humor in.

You really have no room to call anybody indoctrinated when you think that Trump, in a stroke of genius, intentionally sabotaged his wife.

But it's not just me who you don't respond seriously to. Why even talk about politics if you're not gonna take it seriously? Why not stick to something more your speed, like console wars?

I wouldn't call it sabotage. I'd call it checkmate.

Your opinion is noted though.

Is your only mode of conservation trolling?

It's hard to converse with somebody who is so indoctrinated with a person who is clearly a criminal. So I let a little humor in.

You really have no room to call anybody indoctrinated when you think that Trump, in a stroke of genius, intentionally sabotaged his wife.

But it's not just me who you don't respond seriously to. Why even talk about politics if you're not gonna take it seriously? Why not stick to something more your speed, like console wars?

I wouldn't call it sabotage. I'd call it checkmate.

Your opinion is noted though.

Seems weird to checkmate your own queen but okay.

Yeah it seems weird to give up your queen in chess. It'd be weird if one of the best chess players in history did that and won a major tournament and it was called the play of the century..hmmm...

My chess knowledge is admittedly lacking but the point is there's no real benefit to getting your wife accused of plagiarism. Not to mention that most people thought Melania was the bright spot of the convention, bringing some much needed light after all the darkness, and the plagiarism controversy messed that up. What really happened is that Trump hired bad speechwriters; it's likely that neither Trump or Melania was even aware that the speech had been plagiarized.

She looks like a victim now. You're falling right into his plans.

Yeah, she does look a victim, a victim of Donald Trump's sketchy speechwriters.

But how am I falling into his plans when I'm not actually blaming her? It'd be one thing if I was calling her a bad or stupid person. But I'm actually arguing that she didn't really do anything wrong. While she probably shouldn't have taken credit for writing the speech, she simply trusted in her speechwriters. It was their fault.

Everything is going according to plan.
