Metal Core: Love it or Hate it?

Well to start things off, I am an old school guy. Metallica, AC/DC,Kiss, you know those types of bands. I will listen to virtually anything, yes even country music but I am mainly interested in Alternative Rock and Metal. So this new genre pops up, Metalcore. Some Metalcore bands include Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage,Trivium, and numerous of other bands. When I first heard of them I really didn't like it at all. For me it was a lame attempt trying to put metal back on the map, but in the recent days I went against my previous believes. I heard this song called Tears Don't Fall by Bullet For My Valentine, another of the bands that I hated. I don't know why, but I really liked the song. So feel free to share you favorite metal bands, not only metal core and also recommend me some other artists I might be interested in.

even though i dont like metalcore bands, there is the occassional song that i do enjoy. for example, i like Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation by Trivium.

Does Mastodon count as metalcore? I really like Mastodon.

I like some, like I Killed The Prom Queen. That's mainly because they're heavier though. I also enjoy All That Remains, KSE, and As I Lay Dying.DisturbedChild7

pretty indifferent, I'll occasionally listen to Killswitch Engage or All That Remains, but most bands in the genre fall in the range of "meh" to "bleh". However, I've recently started getting really into a few deathcore bands, like Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, and As Blood Runs Black.MronoC

Listen to Ghost of a Fallen Age and see what you think. I enjoy deathcore, but I'm a little lazy to check for new bands. I remember The Grieving Process though, they were pretty good.

its not an attempt to put metal on the map. Metalcore has existed for a real long time. Back before the word "thrash" was popular, metallica was considered metalcore.

Metalcore as we know it today is pretty old, and started when a band just wanted to mix hardcore and metal. somehow, someway it turned into the trendy, might as well be emo thing it is today.

Whats up with everyone putting "core" at the end of everything and all of a sudden coming up with a new genre. I don't even know what classifies as just "metal" these days.

You don't need a new genre for every little difference between a few bands.
