lol no its not. everything on KEA / RTL is better than it minus escape and pulling teeth. and all of MOP minus maybe leper messiah and thing that should not be.nimatoad2000

pulling teeth is not a song, its a bass solo by a bass player that wants to sound like a guitar player. so no i am not mad. leper messiah is a mediocre song minus the spider chords they stole from dave. and thing that should not be is extremely boring and slow. so no i am not mad. are you? learn to use the space bar.first four albums were great, from Kill Em' All to ...And Justice For All, although AJFA sounded like complete crap production wise. I don't listen to them at all anymore, but if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have picked up the guitar, so I do have respect for them.
And Justice For All. Thats about the only set of songs I like from them. The rest is just meh IMO fastesttruckHad a chance to listen to Orion or Call of Kutulu? Both fantastic song by Metallica.
Honestly, I thought Kill 'em all was boring as hell. The songwriting was overwhelmingly mediocre throughout; Ride the Lightning's tracks were almost entirely superior (with one or two exceptions) while Master of Puppets didn't have a weak song on it. I definitely prefer those two albums over everything else they did; it got too dumbed down by the time they released the black album, and Justice was overall too inconsistent for me to call it a "good" album.

Old Metallica>>>New Metallica...But if you look at new Metallica as just music and not from Metallica...it's really good, it's just crap compared to how they once were, but it's hard for a band to touch how good Metallica was.

Cliff >> Ellefson. Fact, accept it. Don't be as close minded as to say a bass player should stick to playing in 4/4 rhythm and be virtually inaudible. Creativity is good mang.
Chords aren't copywrighted, might as well say that everyone is ripping off Sabbath.
Question: What constitutes as a song? Does it need vocals and lyrics? So stuff like Canon by Pachelbel is not a song? It is merely music? And if such is the case, does that mean that it is of a lesser quality and/or importance?

As does alcoholism.Really? Like five people like anything passed Justice. Apparently, hair length has something to do with musical talent. :?

ellefson is miles ahead of cliff.
none of cliff's bass work is anywhere near as technical, or just plainly good as this. not to mention that his sound is so drowned out on metallica's cd's that you can hardly hear him. and now that people have taken the masters ( via rock band) and bumped up his bass, its very boring non technical stuff . look up RTL enhanced bass on youtube. basic stuff. if the guitar work and lead guitar work is not technical, the bass work isnt going to be either. on the other hand look at ellefson's bass line during bad omen... yeah. or five magics... the guy i linked has covered all the best megs songs, feel free to watch them, then listen to pulling teeth and realize how wrong you are.
EDIT: the spider chord is a riff, he calls it a chord because you can move it up or down like a power chord, but its really a way of playing notes a specific way. but dave's spider chord is a specific riff. its on RTL and to a lesser extent leper messiah. its also on wake up dead of course. i also linked dave explaining it, showing the RTL one and the wake up dead one. and that whole " everyone ripped off sabbath " thing is not true, were influenced by? sure. took some ques from.. sure.. but ripped off? everyone?... yeah ok.

no one thinks new metallica is better. metallica rode the dave mustaine riff mobile until they ran out of things to steal, then they started their musical decline with master of puppets, and then with and justice for all they attempted to be prog / technical / try a lot of stuff and it backfired on them with the exception of the title track and one. shortest straw and harvester of sorrow being two of their worst pre black songs.nimatoad2000:lol: Sorry, couldn't help it.
James Hetfields voice kills the music for me. Replace him with King Diamond and Metallica will be great. But as of now... Metallica suck. ...aaronmullan
They've played the Mercyful Fate Medley with Diamond's voice, it's pretty damn good:P, other than that I don't know if they have played any others with him.

I think Ride the Lightning is better than Master of Puppets. IMO

Imo you think Master of Puppets is better than Ride the Lightning. :P
Old Metallica is quite special in my book. After the black album though I can't be bothered to give a whole record a listen in one sitting. Yes I do enjoy the black album very much actually.
Old Metallica is the best Metallica.
Other than that I dont care much for them anymore... so bleh.
But their old stuff is good.
i concur.Master of Puppets was Metallica at their pinnacle in my eyes, took a dip with And Justice For All, which was hampered by poor production then road the wave again the Black album. Still made some good tunes in the 90's and their cover of Whiskey in the Jar is one of my all time faves.
Old Metallica is best. Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning are my two main favorites. Master of Puppets is awesome too.
There music is good. But I've never liked the band. Ever since I saw the Youtube video of them bashing Alice In Chains, I've been totally biased.
i love reading the elitists comments....
"puppets was the beginning of their decline" - really, since its hailed by many as THE seminal 80's metal album that EVERY OTHER METAL ALBUM IS COMPARED TO
"justice had a couple good songs" - matter of preference im sure, but a metal head telling me justice only had a few good songs isn't a metalhead lol.
"the only good songs were daves songs" - then listen to megadeth? i don't know what you people think but aside from the 4 horsemen dave didn't write any metallica songs in their entirety but did contribute a couple riffs for ride the lightning and co-wrote about half the songs on kill'em all with hetfield.
"everything after justice was terrible" - yup, the black album was so terrible that it went platinum and inspired a new age of metal heads and guitarists, it reinvigorated the guitar solo during the 90's and made being able to play your guitar cool during the grunge movement. thats how terrible the album was!

Well, if James Hetfield dueted with the Beegees they could achieve the same effect.
Anything than his "YEA-EAHHH" and singing in that weird way is good for me.There music is good. But I've never liked the band. Ever since I saw the Youtube video of them bashing Alice In Chains, I've been totally biased.
The_Red_Ronso
When was that?
James Hetfield wrote a song about Layne Staley called "Shine" that was supposed to be in Death Magnetic. Even the title of the album is somehow inspired about him. James Hetfield even played with them:
