Doesn't care and never will.

Soccer is the one sport I am ok with America losing. In fact, I prefer it.

mems_1224

so thats the american way of thinking, were so good and above the rest of the world, we look down and discredit the sport everyone else loves because we suck at it and america can never suck at anything. if america is so great why not show, it and build up a soccer system that can improve the quality of players, the problem with usa soccer is that they treat it like any other american sport, they just look for the biggest strongest players to put out there and hope their physical prowess makes the difference, guess what, soccer is not that kind of sport, the best teams in the world have small players to average height players, with low centers of gravity, great skill and technique. the sad thing is that with america's big population, you think they could find plenty of young kids that are average height.

all our good athletes play real sports thats why

like baseball, bunch of roided up guys hitting a ball with a stick, only sport where you can make millions and still be a fat tub of lard, youd have to be a moron to think soccer is not a real sport, the pysical endurance and technique and skill required to be good is crazy. and america doesn't care about soccer, yet 93,000+ sold out the rose bowl yesterday

There are lots of soccer fans in the states. The US in general just likes to say they don't care about any sport in which they lose.

baseball isn't about steroids for the most part anymore, if you're gonna talk down on a sport at least be up to date. plus its all about hand eye coordination and strategy, and i never claimed baseball is where all our good athletes go but it still does take an incredible amount of skill to play and excel at. and yea, it sold out in a state with a HUGE hispanic population that was rooting for mexico anyways.

Why?

If our best athletes played soccer, we would dominate. Imagine if guys like Brian Urlacher, Rey Lewis, Chris Johnson, LeBron James, Derrick Rose or even baseball players like Justin Upton and Josh Hamilton played soccer. Urlacher, when he was 22, was 6'4 260 pounds are ran a 4.4 forty. I promise you that forty time would make him top 10 in speed in all of professional soccer. AND HE IS 6'4 260 POUNDS. Chris Johnson would be the fastest man in soccer, and someone like LeBron James, with his length and size, at goalie?

The issue is, all those athlete chose to play a man's sport. Not soccer.

How many guys in soccer run a 4.4 forty? Or a 4.2(which is how fast Chris Johnson is). Or a 4.1(like Deon Sanders used to run)

I'd love to see the list.

or 7 foot wingspans.

If these athletes comitted to soccer at age 10 rather than other sports, we would dominate soccer as well. Instead, we send out a buch of leftovers.

Don't give me that BS.

If you live in Russia, would you care if your international American Football Team got hammered by the US 50-3? Or when your Spanish National Basketball team, by far the best European team, still got beat down the the US Olympic Basketball team?

Of course you don't. You don't care when the local American Football team loses. Why should we care if our National Soccer team loses?

Maybe not but I wouldn't be so up my own ass to blame it on us not caring. We would suck plain and simple. US is better. Canadian national football team isn't as good as the yanks or Mexico but least most of us don't go on on how we would be beasts if we dedicated ourselfs football.

Anyway this is deja vu from Canada VS USA in hockey. Same arrogant attitude. "We don't care", "What's hockey","If we played as much as you" blah, blah Show your country some decency.

Um, no. Players have left the English Premier League for Spain and Italy because it's so rough. Peter Cech almost died from taking a knee to the head. Aaron Ramsey had his leg broken and it took him a full year to come back. Players are constantly in and out of the team because of injuries sustained during matches. I won't say basketball is less phsyical than football, but it sure as hell isn't more. USA seem to have the same problems as England do with regard to their football team and its success; you just don't have the wealth of players to choose from that you really need. You need more people coming through from college and wanting to play professional football. England is the same, albeit for different reasons. Our top league is saturated with players from other countries, meaning teams focus less on bringing up youths through the ranks and focus more on simply buying up good players from elsewhere. When it comes to the national team, at one point we had to pick players from lower leagues because we were so short of choices. The bigger football gets over in the US, the more successful I think your national team will become.

Not all Americans are like that, just the arrogent ones that think if America isn't the best in the world then it can't be a real sport. So that would include tennis, rugby, cricket, golf, polo, football... etc

It's even funnier when some say that if their best athletes did play football then they would dominate the sport. Where as in real life just because someone is good at 1 or a even a few sports it doesn't mean they would be good at all sports even if they trained from a young age.

[QUOTE="Good-Apollo"]Funny seeing how Americans pretend not to care when they lose and call it not a 'real sport' but love to jump on the patriotic bandwagon as soon as they win something.mems_1224

Not all Americans are like that, just the arrogent ones that think if America isn't the best in the world then it can't be a real sport. So that would include tennis, rugby, cricket, golf, polo, football... etc

It's even funnier when some say that if their best athletes did play football then they would dominate the sport. Where as in real life just because someone is good at 1 or a even a few sports it doesn't mean they would be good at all sports even if they trained from a young age.

lmao all those sports you listed are boring as hell to watch

Why? Because they aren't American sports?

Have you even tried to watch any of them?

Anyway just because you find them boring doesn't mean they are to the people that like them.

I can say the same about American football because it takes 3 hours to play a 60 minute game, and it stops every 4 seconds.

Americans don't enjoy soccer...face it..it's a horrible game to watch..(outside of the world cup).....I loved playing it in Highschool and at the college level...but watching games these days are horribly slow and lackluster.....In the US....if Americans don't watch it...there's no money to be made by playing it...hence our best athletes don't play it......and the cycle of Mediocre American Soccer continues.... and it's not arrogant to get behind your country in the World Cup...for Americans..that's the only time they get interested because of national pride and it being the biggest stage....

The rowdy Mexican supporters (all 2 of them) at the Mexican restaurant we went to on Saturday night were hilarious. They were so loud and rude, and pissing people off, but they were awesome. It's a lot more fun to make friends with the rowdy drunks than it is to be their enemy. They loved us and were giving us high fives. I could care less about soccer, but that was sure as hell fun to witness and be a part of.

[QUOTE="F1_2004"]There are lots of soccer fans in the states. The US in general just likes to say they don't care about any sport in which they lose.Solid_Tango

This is preety much it

I agree.

I'm sorry, but this is a load of crap. Not about the part about the US losing at soccer, but in fact, a large majority of Americans don't care for the sport. In a gallup poll only 3% of Americans picked soccer as their favorite sport. http://www.gallup.com/poll/4735/Sports.aspx

In this link popularity of sports in the US is ranked by internet browsing habits. Soccer ranks 11th place, just above skate boarding, but below running, martial arts, and water sports. http://www.mostpopularsports.net/in/united-states-of-america/

I can name every NBA team, most NFL teams, and several baseball and hockey teams. THe only proffesional soccer team I can name is the local Colorado Rapids. I didn't even know there was a US-Mexico soccer game until this thread. :P

ESPN TV rating say other wise, it is not major sport but it is very popular and the fans here are very knowledgeable. Can we please and I mean please fire Bob Bradley, why was Maurice Edu not playing?

How does ESPN's rating say otherwise? I basically said that the majority of Americans prefer other professional sports to soccer. Then you claim that "it is not a major sport" which is exactly the point I was making. I never said that there wern't any soccer fans, but that many other sports in the us have a much larger fan base. On a side note: is that a CSU ram in your avatar? I went to school in fort collins for a few years.

See the ratings it gets for world cup which is as good as NBA playoffs/finals or Baseball playoffs/finals. The local league is garbage that is why it is not a major sport. Yes I did go to CSU long time ago though.

[QUOTE="Darthkaiser"]And now we'll have ESPN latin america commentators talking about how good the Mexico selection is for about two months from now. (They're from Mexico but no bias at all no sir not at all) Seriously, when mexico lost the world cup ESPN latin america kept talking about the team and how good it was how far could the've gotten what strategies should be changed...while the world cup was meh to them. Still I gotta say Mexico did a very good job, congratulations to themForsakenWicked
Agreed. I'm Mexican (living in Mexico) and I find it irritating to hear how "great" the Mexican team is, when really they don't play that good. I was actually surprised to see Mexico win after the initial 2 goals scored by the US. Anyway, I think it was a fair game, and watching soccer games always entertains me.

Really? what do you guys see? because ESPN latin america is one of the less biased goup of commentators, they are really, really harsh when it comes to the team, sure, when they have a good tournament they say it, but when they fail, oh God they destroyed the team (if they deserve it of course), if you think this guys are biased, then stay away from open mexican TV, now that guys are so biased is not even fun to watch anymore.

The 20 year old kids they're sending? As for tons of things to watch? Baseball is in mid-season, that's about it. Golf? Nascar? Tennis? There's nothing else to watch right now so i don't mind soccer.

Well the Women's World Cup is on.

When it comes to Soccer, not really, i remember the major USA team victory in their history, they eliminated the Spanish team and went to the final of the Confederations Cup, and i read that the major newspapers didn't even gave the news on the front page.

No one watches Women's World Cup. It's honestly all about the Copa America and the U-20 World Cup that's gonna go down in July.
