[QUOTE="xTheExploited"]Michael Jordan is the greatest to ever touch a basketball. Also look at the time when Jordan played. Jordan played in arguably the most talented league the NBA has ever seen. The Dream Team of the 90s would destroy Team USA today. I find it mindboggling that anyone can compare Lebron or even Kobe to Michael. Michael Jordan is just like Wayne Gretzky, never been close to being reached in terms of status by another player and never will be.mems_1224
uuuhh actually the league was pretty crappy as far as guards go in the mid 90's.

I'm talking overall quality. Not specifically point guards.

no the league is probably better now than it was in the 90's. the overall quality of players is a lot better. they're more fit, they're more athletic and more well rounded now a days than they were back then thanks to all the advances in medicine and training.

Stop comparing Lebron to Michael, seriously hes not even that good, and Kobe is better than both in my opinion.

Kobe will go down as the beat all time, he will have 5 rings after this year, he helped rebuild the lakers after shaq left, he is just as good as a defender as mj and a better shooter, kobe has made some shots mj could only dream of. Did mj ever score 81 in a game? Plus kobe is a great closer just like mj was, some people are just haters of kobe and i dont know why considering mj is an ass--- and besides lebron will end up being better than mj when he retires as well. How could any of you say that magic or bird is better than kobe overall? Really? I doubt most of you even were watching bball when they played

The simple fact that Kobe takes games off, pouts, and doesn't shoot to make a statement makes him far inferior to Jordan
I know you will want examples:
1. Kings v Lakers (when Shaq was around)
-Shaq makes a comment about ball movement = Kobe shoots 1 time in the first half of next game to make a point (pouting)
2. Suns v Lakers (after Shaq)
-Suns down 3-1 in the series. pulls the same crap to make a statement about the lack of talent in LA
-they lose the series

Lebron did the same **** last night
-could be his last home game ever in Cleveland...and that is what he goes out on
-he did not even try (first FG came in second half, waiting on the wings, etc)

Yeah gotta agree. Lebron is overrated. He's got good players around him and his team is not dominating.. Jordan on the other hand had...and won like what? 6 NBA championships?

There hasn't been some vast increase in sports technology which makes todays players incredibly better than those of the 90s. The 90s weren't actually that long ago, good players then would be good players now.

Agreed. Kobe has had the best talent around him, then Jordan, then Lebron

I think Jordan is the best player of all-time...but Jordan's teams surrounding him during the 90s were MILES better than LeBron's teams surrounding him. Jordan had a hall-of-famer in his prime playing alongside him. LeBron has a hall-of-famer playing alongside him, but Shaq is old and a shell of what he used to be.

Lebron is not surrounding by anything even near the caliber of what Jordan had around him. Also, Phil Jackson has proven to be a damn genius when it comes to coaching a team. I do not think people give enough credit to Jackson for Jordan rings.

Or Kobe's :P

one thing i know for certain is that Jordan was nowhere as good as Lebron is now when he was 25, and he didn't have jack until Pippen, arguably the 2nd best player in the league at that time, came along. not to mention that during the 2nd 3-peat the Bulls had one of the best starting lineups in NBA's history.

I beg to differ.

I'll be picking MJ as well for both iconic and legendary roles in NBA history. Lebron still needs to win something and if he keeps saying his infamous cop-out like he did last night, he's not going to get there any time soon.

In your opinion, whether you're a fan of basketball or not. Which of these two are the most iconic in your eyes?

PandaTrueno86

Jordan. lebron is great, but Jordan made the NBA. He made basketball not only a popular sport, but also a fashion statement. Bird and Magic took basketball to new heights and then Jordan took it as high as it will ever go, and Lebron cant take it any higher IMO

MJ is probably the most recognized athlete in the world (You could possibly argue Hulk Hogan if you wanted).

Non-basketball fans like myself know who MJ is. Ask the average person who Lebron is and they'll have no clue.

At 24 years old Michael Jordan averaged 37 points per game. Lebron has not come close to that mark ever.

At 25 years old Michael Jordan averaged 35 points (54% shooting) 5.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists.

At 26 years old Michael Jordan averaged 32.5 points (54% shooting) 8 rebounds and 8 assists and 3 steals per game. This is a better all around season than Lebron has ever had, including Lebron's two "MVP" years.

\4. MJ had an unyielding desire to win...to be the best (hell, he still does. he is still bitter to this day over things that happened years ago)
-Lebron quit last night...took the night off...did not even try
-IMO it was to make a statement (like Kobe has done a couple times)
-MJ NEVER did this...EVER

rawsavon

Yeah, I was pretty pissed off. I am sitting here defending Lebron and he goes and pulls that ****. I was blown away. There is no reason you should be sitting down looking non-chalant when you are down 20+ points in a playoff gmae. I am disappoint Lebron.

Hands down Michael Jordan. He is basketball's most iconic figure to date. I've seen footage of how LeBron James treats other people on the court & anyone who treats others in such a demeaning way is not worthy to be labeled an icon regardless of how good he is.

You can't really bring that up as an argument Jordan was a straight up jerk and still is if you seen his hall of fame speech. Sometimes to be competitive you have to be a jerk.

Well I think tonight cements my belief that James is going to say goodbye to the cavs. Good game by him but individual performance just can't get it done in a team sport.

His 4 of 12 or 14 from the field during the first half wasn't exactly good. Especially his 9 Turnovers. He tried, but looked as if he did as much damage to his team as his performance....

Jordan >>> James by miles. LeBron has the ability to reach such a status, but he hasn't yet.

Of course the greatest will always be Charles Barkley :3

LeBron needs better teammates.

-Iconoclast-
I don't know about that. Everyone says Jordan had such good teammates, but I think they were only that good b/c of Jordan. -Pippen was great with Jordan, but he was complete garbage in Portland and Houston -Kerr/Paxon/Kukoc were all good b/c they were always wide open...b/c of the Jordan double and triple teams -Horace Grant sucked when he left the Bulls as well -the only one that was a force outside of the Bulls was Rodman...he was a damn good defender and rebounder James has Jamison (a good, not great player) and Shaq (still the second best center in the East) -maybe if James had tried a little harder this series his teammates would have been open more...it is his job to create space for them, not the reverse
