Michael Bay is the producer... not the director or writing the screenplay... why can't people understand that?AtlanticRock
Michael Bay's still involved.
I think they saw that Michael Bay was turning the turtles into Aliens and started hating on it.Looks pretty good. But people saw Michael Bay and started hating on it.

I've never been fond of re-boots in general that totally change what the original was. That is, you take something that people enjoyed, then say, "Well, I'm going to make this my own" and start screwing with it like crazy. If your ideas are so much better, why not just make up your own thing (while not riding the coat-tails of the original)?
As for this next 'version' of TMNT.... well, I'll just wait and see.
Eastman, one of the co-creators, has been actively involved. The concept artwork is actually his. One of his comments regarding the "alien origin" of the turtle reboot was that the mutagen was actually based on alien technology. I'm cool with Bay taking a few liberties. If anything I'm glad he's spinning his own version; most of the live movies and subsequent cartoons and film were super-campy and family friendly. The original comics were pretty dark and gritty, with Leonardo almost getting killed early on. I'm hopeful Bay does for The Turtles what Christopher Nolan did for Batman. Boz to me the turtles are about fun as opposed to dark and gritty even if that was how they started out. Also they were mutant turtles that originated on Earth, but that's a different argument I suppose.I've never been fond of re-boots in general that totally change what the original was. Yeah. In all seriousness, there are many different versions of the turtles already. This isn't that farfetched. I'm just giving Michael Bay a hard time. I liked Bad Boys, Armageddon and the first Transformers, so there's a chance this will be another good one.
The art styIe actually reminds me some of the old Eastman & Laird artwork. This is going to look crazy next to the cartoon, but next to the old art from Mirage Studios, and many of their reboots and reinterpretations from other comic artists before it hit networks, it's not that far-fetched. Heck, laser turtles from the future aren't even that far-fetched.
I'm not saying we should throw in Mel Gibson, Tina Turner, and a kid with a razor boomerang, but I'd give it a shot. Even as a child of the 80's, and having met Eastman at a comic book convention back in the 90's (I'm a fan is all I'm saying), I'm willing to give Michael Bay a little lee-way. Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon, the first Transformers, and The Island were all pretty fun popcorn movies. I'm hopeful his spin on TMNT will be, too.
Happy gaming,
Boz

lol, it is funny people would get upset at a tmnt reboot when they were raped decades ago from the original concept on saturday morning tv.
i was reading the books back in the day where the turts were anguished over their shytty lot in life, hated each other and performed bloody graphic violence on the foot then one day they are on tv going "cowabunga dude! lets totally eat some pizza!!!"
the concept that bay could screw them up any more than that is pretty funny.
It's still too early, but that looks like someone's deviantART sketch more than anything else.
I've never held and attachment to TMNT either way, but I almost feel bad for the fans...almost.
Michael Bay, please stop raping my childhood.metroidfoodFor the life of me, I'll never understand people who use this phrase to describe their disdain for what Hollywood does to whatever IP they grew up with. It doesn't do you any good to get all bent out of shape. Besides, you got almost 30 years of TMNT history to enjoy if you don't like what they're doing to it now.
You still have the original comics, the 1980s cartoon series is on DVD, three live action movies, a few series from the '90s, a couple of animated movies--both CG and traditional animation--plus Nickelodeon is set to premiere a new animated series sometime this year. You got all that to fall back on, why get worked up on this?
That art was supposedly drawn by Eastman, one of the original co-creators. Happy gaming, BozIt's still too early, but that looks like someone's deviantART sketch more than anything else.

That's what I was referring to. The announcement was made about a few weeks ago, and to see concept art so soon--without even a cast lined up yet is surprising.First off I respect your opinion. Second: I'm tired of the word "rape" being casually used to describe things of this nature or in video games as far as people "owning" one another or being successful in a video game (you do realize this atrocious act actually does happen to people right?). The version you speak of is the concept YOU are more familiar with. Meanwhile, most of us grew up on the "Cowabunga" version of TMNT (and good luck trying to get the version you're familiar with on TV as a Saturday morning cartoon-Networks back then wouldn't have it I'm sure and neither would sponsors I imagine). So, this is the cause of the uproar, that is what's going on, and I can't say I blame a lot of people that, yet again, something beloved from our past is being trotted out to cater to a new audience while trying to pander to the diehard fans of the originals. Not happening. Transformers: The Animated Movie is so much better than Michael Bay's Transformers trilogy it's not even funny. At least in the animated movie they didn't have humping dogs. Nuff said. That's just my opinion.lol, it is funny people would get upset at a tmnt reboot when they were raped decades ago from the original concept on saturday morning tv.

I can guarantee it does not look as bad as people make it out to be. Some people say it's ruined their childhood. So one drawing has ruined a franchise that's been around for years? All I see is a modern interpretation of the TMNT that makes them look somewhat more plausible looking thing.

Well the last thing I expect from TMNT is "plausability". For me it's not so much about ruining my childhood (though I have made a joke or two), indeed I'd probably have little to no interest ether way, but I don't really get the point up taking up an established franchise if you're only going to change it and make it something it's not.
On topic, the turtle looks like a post-apocalyptic survivor or something. Kind of confused on the look though. I'm just confused on the setting of the film, the weird armor upgrade, and the weapon changes. Slowly morphing away from TMNT into something else.
I personally don't like it. But I would like to see more arts before I make my final judgment about it.
Lol. It turns into...a regular turtle.[QUOTE="Hallenbeck77"] That's what I was referring to. The announcement was made about a few weeks ago, and to see concept art so soon--without even a cast lined up yet is surprising. I see what you mean now. I guess the main cast doesn't matter too much if they're all in costume. Unless they pull a CGI voice over and/or decide to use the VA's likeness as Ed Norton did with Hulk. It's like a Transformer turtle.
I do not like at all.
