Story

Speaking about President Obama - "I have said many times, publicly, that I do think he has a different worldview and I think it is, in part, molded out of a very different experience. Most of us grew up going to Boy Scout meetings and, you know, our communities were filled with Rotary Clubs, not madrassas" - Mike Huckabee

So according to Mike Huckabee, if you weren't a Boy Scout from a town full of old lady meeting halls, you are not a real American. It seems as though Mr. Huckabee despises anyone with worldly experiences other than that of being a small town hick.

So, OT... Are you a real American? Or are you a city-slicker, world loving, un-patriotic flag burner? In Mike Huckabee's world, you are one or the other.

When you talk about "Rotary Clubs" and "Boy Scouts" you are certainly not speaking about civilization. It is implied.

No you implied it. All he said is obamas views are different because he didn't do some things others did. That's not a slam at him nor is it saying only real Americans were in the Scouts.

I am pretty sure there were Mardrassas in the "old" days. Just nobody seemed to noticed them or cared.

There lies the issue... He DID do the same thing 90% of the world does, such as live outside of the US. He certainly made the arguement that Obama is not like "us" when "us" is Mikeys brethren down at the Rotary Club waxing poetic about how great the 50's were. Is it no wonder that every metro area votes Democrat in every election. Educated and cultured city livers realize that there is more to the world than box car derbys, hay rides, country music, and banging your cousins.

Well he did say on a radio show recently that Barack Obama was born in Kenya, so he doesn't feel that the president is a real American, which is quite ridiculous.

I disagree with Huckabee. I think having world experiences help to broaden your viewpoints. But in the same sense, I don't like the hidden references to bashing those that did grow up with the scouts or rotary clubs. If people did grow up with that experience, I don't hold it against them. They aren't bad people either - which some of you seem to subtley suggest.

Educated and cultured people also wouldn't make incredibly ignorant statements like the highlighted. Do you really think so low of anyone that doesn't live in the city or follow your ideas of what is "right"? That's a shame.

Don't take it personally (except for the Obama jab), he's just pandering to the lowly base from the South for early support (since that's where he's popular).

Real American reporting in here. While some of you may be quick to criticize this attempt to distinguish those of us patriotic enough to cherish our country and those of you which don't, understand that you are inherently less able to understand his viewpoint by not being a true American. Huckabee is right, and I think he would be an excellent candidate to lead our country into the 21st century.

They can be both.

Honestly, go to google and read some some of things he's said. Politics aside, hes just not intelligent.

A simple google search will bring up dozens of quotes that are near Palin level.

How do you know Huckabee believes that? Because he said it? The vast majority of Americans would find that concept ridiculous, so why would he say that?

He would say he believes that because his base belives that... its all politically motivated, high calculated and above all, not stupid...

He says these things now, but once he is the Presidential canidate, he will distance himself from all of these statements, just like a good politician should...

Right...well since I can't judge this "inner" Mike Huckabee thats clearly a genius.....He must've informed you about it in a super secret private meeting.

I'll just do the normal thing and judge him on his actions.

I graduated Boy Scouts. It was fun.

On topic: So, Huckabee is saying most Americans didn't grow up around educational institutions, like schools and college? So, did Obama actually grow up with any madrasah(s) nearby, or is he just using that word?

I''m not sure which is worse - being ignorant or deceitfully lying in order to pander to others. Neither quality is one I hold in a high regard.

The man believes dinosaurs and people lived at the same time.

Thats not political, its just dumb.

I''m not sure which is worse - being ignorant or deceitfully lying in order to pander to others. Neither quality is one I hold in a high regard.

Every president and presidential canidate has done it... whether you find is a redeamable quality or not is besides the point...

But its true. Its even in the Bible :?

I think I remember that passage. It's somewhere in the back, right? :P

The one I have has Jesus fighting a T-rex with a lightsaber while surfing drawn on the inside of the cover. I'm going to have to assume that that's actually in every bible since it's awesome.

Actually, it's not besides the point. I'm not willing to give anyone a pass on it simply because "others do it". Deceitful lying in order to pander to others knocks a candidate down quite a few pegs in my book. I prefer someone with some integrity.

When you find a canidate that does what he says and says what he does 100% of the time, you let me know...

If I can't find one, which is likely, then I'll choose the one that has the better record.

However, a candidate stating that humans lived with dinosaurs, regardless of whether the source of the statement is ignorance or deceitful pandering, essentially has guaranteed that he/she won't receive my vote.

I'm almost positive now that Obama will be a one-term president and a republican will be in the whitehouse in 2 years. You guys better hope that a more moderate candidate like Huckabee gets the nomination, because it's looking like a real hardcore conservative like Rick Perry is going to end up winning the nomination.

What makes you so positive? The last poll numbers I heard gave him a 55% approval rating, but that was several weeks ago.
