so what does everyone think of this? militarization of police? truely some scarey stuff. hurry and watch it youtube has apparently taken some of these videos down and its not like anything is copyrighted. but really some scarey stats in there including a cop just punching a helpless man on the ground in the face. as well as WTH do cops have these big military weapons?

good or bad, the simple truth is that the police are the first line of defense the government has against its own people. I wouldn't call them oppressors, but I would definitely call them enforcers before I'd call them protectors.

Ever hear of the North Hollywood shootout? It happened in 1997, back before officers were really arming themselves. Two guys bought tons of body armor and used fully automatic assault rifles to rob a bank. When the cops got there, they couldn't do anything at all to the robbers except get shot.

After that, cops started arming themselves more heavily.

It's not like the police are just arming themselves because they can or because they want to violently oppress us. When it's easy to get high powered rifles, you need your law enforcement to be able to deal with it.

To be honest, I skimmed the video. I see the whole picture. Just the way you posted your previous post led me to believe that you were in favor of cops patroling the streets with Assault Rifles. Some have shotguns, others have M4s or similar assault rifles. It's really just in case they ever need them.

The video clearly was taking out incidents here and there and comparing us to a militaristic state while using our SWAT teams as examples of a normal police officer. It was 100% bias, 100% left-wing, and 100% BS.

If you're in California the gun laws maybe trampling on the second amendment, the rest of the country has actually lightened up. Wisconsin just got the CCW laws passed and Obama never resigned in the assault weapons ban.

Thanks to the internet we get to see every single time a cop misuses their power. Considering there are millions of law enforcement officers across our country, the number of those incidents are small and usually swiftly dealt with harshly.

Would you also believe me when I say violent crimes in America are actually decreasing? You wouldn't because the internet makes us able to hear about nearly every single one of them.

most of the videos posted on this forum of supposed police brutality only show parts to make the police look bad. the whole story is never shown, and i'd bet that in most of the videos, the cops are handling situations appropriately.

The police are the governments way of controlling people. That is why most police forces have weapons. They are cocercive bullies that are there to protect the laws of the rich against the poor. That's why they donate so many resources to protecting upper c1ass suburbs from the poor people, but then don't help when the black single mother in Harlem has a kid that has gone missing.

The guy who cut up an eight year old didn't know right from wrong... The kid who beat his girlfriend to death with a rock didn't know right from wrong... The would-be Fort Hood shooter didn't know right from wrong...

Automatic weapons exist and are out there on the streets. Cops don't need to be actively carrying them like they do with handguns, but they need access to them incase s*** happens.
