lol. id be in the airforce. Its pretty safe compared to storming beaches and such
Well, if the enemy develop's some kind of "state of the art" AA system, which is pretty hard to evade.... your screwed, seriously screwed. The F-22 Raptor used by the Air Force is the most state of the art piece of technology in the entire world, it is near impossible to get a target lock on the raptor due to it's stealth design in the framework and its electronic counter measures, and even if you do the Raptor is capable of the most high performance manuvers in a fighter. The onboard computer avionics is advanced enough to handle alot of the flight mechanics itself taking a lot of weight off the pilot's shoulders and allowing for precision turns at high speeds and unorthodox manuvers at high speeds.
That's not to say the F-15 or F-16 are bad however. And as to those saying getting in as a pilot is near impossible..er, not really. The Airforce flies F-15's, F-16's, F-22's, and a variety of bombers and transports. We have bases all over the US, Europe, and south asia. All you need is some time logged in a Sesna (Not too expensive to get pilot lessons these days) and have good eyesight (or correctable to 20/20 eyesight) and a position open and they'll take you in as a pilot. Best bet is to go in as enlisted so you're in and getting military experience and then later go for the pilot-officer position as i am doing.
you should just go to college and then go to OTS, or join the air national guard so you can pick you plane before you start your training so you wont get effed out of a fighter slot

The air-Force is currently not accepting Division Transfers so going national gaurd would be a bad idea, and many of them have been shipped over seas. Second, after you apply for OTS you get put on a list, and you dont ship off to basic until the jobs you've applied for are open up (This includes the required tech school classes and basic training position). People who are already in the Air force who are applying for OTS to be a pilot are going to get priority over people coming straight out of college. I have just under two years of College done and am signing a 6 year and will go in as an E-3 with an MOS in electronics, i will finish my bachelors after tech school and then immediatly apply for OTS and i'm much more likely to get in quick and get the MOS i want than if i were to stay a civvy this whole time.

sounds good, yeah its been a few years since i was involved in this stuff
United States Army, and become an aviation warrant officer. My father retired as a CW4. If I couldn't pass WOCS for some reason, I'd go infantry (11 Bravo).
To the guy who just got through MEPS, congrats. I got that far but needed a waiver, and never got it (sat around for six hours for them to try and find a doctor that would sign off and never did).
Let's say WW3 is right around the corner, but the military is letting all registered for the draft a chance to join now and choose/test into a branch of the military/field of choice. For those of you that are, or those that are a couple years away, what would you choose? explain your choice if you want to.
For me it would be field commander in the Air Force. My dad is Air Force, and that is a very highly-appealing position for me, as I have thousands of hours of training, thanks to Command and Conquer :P
Premier1101
Somehow, I don't think WWIII would play out quite like Command & Conquer. :P
Not much love for the ground branches huh? Good luck taking a country with only a navy and airforce. If there is a WW3, I would join the Marine Ordnance Units. Nothing better then blasting some Chinese fools with a 105mm howitzer!Bigg_Boi
I blast you away before you blast me.
good eyesight (or correctable to 20/20 eyesight)
Tolwan
So...wearing contacts would count?
I have terrrrrrrrible vision BTW (I'm not joining to be a pilot, I'm just wondering the qualifications)

If you have 20/20 with contacts then yes, that counts. Though i think they make you wear glasses in Basic, i'm pretty sure they let you switch back to contacts afterwards (dont quote me on that though).
For instance, i just got back from MEPS and it turns out i have 20/40 in my left eye (Right eye is perfectly fine, 20/20), but none of the guys there batted an eyelash at it and i was still qualified for all the jobs i was qualified for before (Plus i can see color, which seems to be most important to them).
Essentially, as long as you can in some form or another get your eyes to 20/20 and you arent like half blind or anything or color-blind then they'll let you in (Even if you dont have depth perception, believe it or not).
The air force. I would want to be a pilot, but I have too many health problems for the military to want me.
i would join Army, Marines and then onto Special forces because you can never replace groundtroops.
and its for the toughest.

Special Forces are part of the Army.
I wonder if you have a clue about the militaryi would join Army, Marines and then onto Special forces because you can never replace groundtroops.

very easy to replace with terror... like a nuke + spy network
proabley the army core of engineersThevenin167I would do that if my grades in school now were good enough :(
I've always thought about joining the Marines( or atleast the reservers), so I guess that...
The Space Marines. Because we all know WW3 will have space combat.deshields538
That wouldn't be so cool, you would have to go through a lot of pain in the process of becoming a marine. I would much rather be a member of the Planetary Defense Force, that way I wouldn't have to go very far.
[QUOTE="deshields538"]The Space Marines. Because we all know WW3 will have space combat.bigfatcrap
With the space marines it's more a question of what you want to fight.
The list goes on.
I'm talking about the REAL space marines. These guys:

you do know that you're not alowed a girl, and you have to fight to the death before you're modified just to be acepted, and there's a goodchance you're fighting a friend

Well, i'm already joining so...
I've just gotten back from MEPS (Horrible day that was) a day ago and should be shipping off to basic in a couple months. I'll be joining the USAF and my MOS will probably be something in electronics (It was an open contract, so i picked 6 job options). Atleast, until i finish off my bachelors after i get situated after tech school, of which i will then apply to be an Officer (Fighter Pilot). So if there is a military crisis, i will most likely still be USAF :P
Tolwan
If you want to be a fighter pilot, your best bet would be to try to get a slot to the academy. They pretty much get priority over everyone else for jobs like that.

unfortuantely, ure soooo right :P
Well, this thread says I posted here, but I dno't see my post. So I;ll say, whichever branch deploys Splinter Cell like black operatives
Army......most familiar with it. And TC...a little fact helps.:roll:LJS9502_basic
fact? whatever do you mean? :?
My great grandpa was a colonel in the marine corps. He was a WWII fighter pilot and ace. Got the medal of honor, the distinguished flying cross and the purple heart.
My great uncle was a captian in the marine corps. Was a helicoptor pilot in the Vietnam war.
So I'd have to say the Marines.

This...I found it offensive.I almost joined the Marines after I graduated high school. That was before my money went through and I got accepted into a university. So I didn't join up. If I did join up now, I'd probably do Air Force since the nearest base is about an hour or so away from me.worthyofnoteReserves...yes. Active they send you anywhere they wish.

Plus I would be able to still attend school and be near home.
