It means people will get paid a decent wage, and CEO's can finally take a pay cut.

Bah, who am I kidding, they'll raise prices of good's before they stop dishing out tens of millions for CEO's.

i dontc it as that big of a deal when most states already have a minimum wage higher than the Federal minimum wage, also some of the posts have concerns that r completely unrelated to a minimum wage hike

an increased quality of life, and spending from the lower/middle class. Since most goods are either made outside the US or pay higher than min wage already there'd be no reason for the price of goods to go up. The only industry to be effected would be the service industry which can easily handle a wage increase, and most the businesses that would die off from it were already dying off, and would of closed down, or sold in the next ressession.

An increased minimum wage does not mean more jobs to india, cause most of the jobs that go there aren't minimum wage ones here, so the effect is quite dampened. However the pay raise could very well mean that most minimum wage earners will get a little better while a few lose their jobs. And yea, it'll also probably hurt the anti-illegal immigration fight.

sophistry and delusion. you think the price you pay for a meal in a restaurant is unaffected by wages? how about the cost of the home you buy; it's not made outside the us. what about the costs of garbage collection and recycling? garbage collection is a service, but do you think you can do without it or that it comes at no cost to you? the cost of service to an employer has no bearing on the cost of service to you? what, money for nothing? get real.

A minimum wage increase is usless to the people it's meant to help. When the mimimum wage goes up the prices of everything goes up as well to compensate. What's thepointof making an extra few cents an hour if stuff costs a dollar more?

i don'tthink the poster meant that by his post. garbage men get paid more than minimum wage already also construction jobs even the ones in areas where illegal immigration has had the most impact still pay even the illegals more than minimum wage. also like i said earlier the vast majority ofstates already have a minimum wage higher than the federal, many of the ones that were lagging behind recently passed those laws less than a year ago.

wait-staff wages would be unaffected since they mostly work off tips. As an operation cost you'd be looking at an increase of about $100 a day which for most restaurants would be under $1. The only restaurants that would be effected are those already going under.

No contractor, or carpenter is paid min wage the price of building a home wouldn't change at all.

Garbage collectors, and recycling center employees are also paid well over min wage.

Obviously you don't have much business/marketing experience if you think the cost of good is effected by how much they cost to produce. Goods are effected by the cost people will pay, not by the cost of labor, or production.

To be honest it means nothing. Prices of goods continues to go up anyway with or without the wage increase. It'snot about how much money a person makes it's about how much they can SAVE.

spot on.
It's called "MINIMUM" wage. translate - starting wage, entry level wage....not "support my wife and litter of kids " wage.

Who pays for this - us - prices go up, small stores and shops go out of buisness because they can't afford the higher rate. The net result is more people may lose their jobs because their company went under.

Who wins - the "feel good" politicians who pulled off another crappy law

It means the cost of living will increase. Minimum wage will never catch up to a the rest of the workforce. The government needs to create better jobs in the US instead of allowing them to be farmed out to other countries. There is no way a country can continue to sustain itself relying on minimum wage jobs and increases.

The point of my post was that a wage increase forUS citizens(actually any wage increase, not just minimum wage) isn't going to help US citizens if it just means more USA jobs goingto illegal immigrants, visa workersor foreign countries. Minimum wage increased may actually be less of a factor in this than higher salary wage increases. So we also need some forms of legistlation that insures that jobs stay here to go along with it.

slightly higher prices on some products and services, more money for the poorest X% and less money for those who were earning just over the new minimumbefore it came in as companies will lower their wages to the new minimum and say to new employees how great it is they updated so quickly.

if the Uk experiecne has anything to go by.

All this increase does is increase the wages paids to unions since the pay scale they use is tied to that. If you're not in high school and making minimum wage you have a serious problem that 7 bucks an hour won't fix.

Not even close to the truth. The vast majority of minimum wage jobs are not "small stores and shops", but large corporations.

I am not sure about the increase's effect on the economy, but I do know that the kind of arguments you put fourth are garbage. Small business's are not going to go out of business, thats rediculous...

wow, only 2 more things needed to break the economie of america:

1./ Russia joining European Union ( what makes the Euro stronger)

2./ China stops using Dollar as theyr gold value in the market, and start using Euro's ( makes Euro stronger)

if that happends( what I dont see happening in the next 30 years) america is doomed, just becouse like 20 dollar would equal 1 euro, and that is bad for your economie, you would pay 50 dollars for a bread

I really don't know why I try. It's painfully clear nobody cares about jobs for US citizens. As long as a certain amount of poeple are making good money and have good jobs that's all that matters to you people.
