This is why GS is broken. A person is banned yet hte majority of people seemed to have liked him. Why ban someone no one has any problems with :S?Dr_BrocoliWhat made you think it is a popularity contest?

[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"][QUOTE="jointed"]The mods really need to stop doing this. The guy was a decent user and certainly didn't deserve to be banned, regardless of his moderation history or what he did in that DS thread.jointedWhat's the point of having rules if you're not going to enforce them? -- whilst it is unfortunate that it came to this, the guy obviously would have been given plenty of opportunity to avoid banning. There're no rules saying that a user must be banned after a certain amount of moderations, it's completely up to the mods. Enforcing rules is not the same as banning and suspending users. True -- but if a user continually offends, then obviously it is in the mod's best interests to ban that person to ensure that the forums are maintained as how they want it to be. If users are free to break the rules without increasing repercussion, then that sends the signal that breaking the rules is ok as long as you can accept a warning or suspension, and as such it becomes less of a deterence.
theres only four of us left:?It is a conspiracy of GS to remove all the Irish people's :o

Its summer. The admins need to meet their banning quota for the year around this time. Unfortunate, but it has to happen.

Jointed, I know you were friends with him, and yes he was a good poster...But your post was basically like "Yeah I understand he broke a lot of rules in the past and had that one....."unspeakable"...incident, but the police shouldnt have thrown him in jail! He was such a cool guy!"
It sucks though. Oh well, he's probably just gonna make an alt :P
What made you think it is a popularity contest?I personally think banning of a user should be voted upon so everyone is happy.[QUOTE="Dr_Brocoli"]This is why GS is broken. A person is banned yet hte majority of people seemed to have liked him. Why ban someone no one has any problems with :S?duxup

Enforcing rules is not the same as banning and suspending users. It is based on what the mod thinks, but every mod takes into account frequency of each moderation in a user's history, how many moderations they have, how many total posts they have, and (I think) how long they've been a member of GameSpot. I've been here for 5 years and I know how it works, I just don't agree with how they reason. I never saw him post anything blatantly offensive or do anything serious, sure he might have posted a few insulting comments or dodged the censor a few times...but so freaking what, you don't deserve a perma ban because of minor stuff like that.

This is why GS is broken. A person is banned yet hte majority of people seemed to have liked him. Why ban someone no one has any problems with :S?Dr_BrocoliBecause he still commited alot of no-no's. As I keep saying I liked the guy, thought he was one of the better posters. But knowing the rules and what and how he posted things I knew his day was coming. Most of the things he did that I personally saw that were violations were not designed to be mean or make enemys, but are pretty clear cut violations. Such as how in every legalize drugs thread he had to talk about his own personal LSD usage. That adds up. And it shows that you are not willing to correct behaviour.

No, I like the way they are. Breath the wrong way and your ****ing out. It's awesome.

He wasn't my friend...I don't think I ever spoke/wrote to him directly. I just think he's a decent user who doesn't deserve a permaban. Accumulated minor offenses should not result in a ban, especially not when you can get modded for the slightest things.Damn, he was a good guy, any hints as to why he was banned mods?markop2003Repeated offenses, most likely. You're given many warnings before you're banned. :?

Edit: It just depends how many times you've repeated the same thing over and over, despite being moderated for it over and over again.

I meant an offence in terms of the ToU BTW. Well, I haven't heard about the incident you are talking about (PM me:D), all cases should clearly judged on their own merits, on not on that of others. Of course, I'm not saying that it isn't up to the mods, but such is the situation that we are operating, and we can only trust the mods to make good decisions. This is not a democracy.[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"][QUOTE="jointed"] There're no rules saying that a user must be banned after a certain amount of moderations, it's completely up to the mods. For those who don't know he had the animated DJ for an avatar, and Blanka in his sig.. I just noticed reading over an old post.. Probably for getting into it with DS alternate account# 45335-43788 in the most known user thread. :(
Bummer, he was a good poster. A bit racy at times, but that made his post worth reading to me.
