http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/26/mitt-romney-olympics-london_n_1705657.html

Mitt Romney, in his first trip abroad as the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, is trying to walk back comments he made questioning London's Olympics preparation -- comments that have drawn a sharp response from Prime Minister David Cameron.

The dustup began Wednesday, as Romney, who ran the 2002 Salt Lake City games, said there were "disconcerting" signs in the days before this year's games.

"The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials -- that obviously is not something which is encouraging," he told NBC News.

"Do they come together and celebrate the Olympic moment? And that's something which we only find out once the games actually begin," he said.

Cameron soonrebuked Romney. "We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course, it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere," he said.

"I think we will show the whole world not just that we come together as a United Kingdom, but also we're extremely good at welcoming people from across the world," Cameron added. "I will obviously make those points to Mitt Romney. I look forward to meeting him."

Article

And it was after said meeting that Mitt Romney appeared to play down his earlier comments somewhat:

Pretty dumb on both sides. I have no idea why Romney feels that he needs to make a statement about the Olymics, and also why it is such a big deal he did that he noted that some of the private firms and strikes going on were worrisome. Romney was probably hoping to point out how well he did with the games earlier, but unless something goes long in London, they seem to be surviving.

lol. I can't believe Romney managed to screw up a simple trip to London. And he was trying to strengthen his foreign policy credentials too.

He had a chance to show that he's good on the international scale, but is failing miserably. I don't think it will change the election here, but if he is elected, it doesn't bode well.

Maybe Romney feels like he is Luke, and the fleet outside the window is the London Olympics. Since he was on the Death Star no one could warn him it was a trap.

The guy is a total assclown who has no idea how ridiculous he looks to people outside of the US.

Only the braindead hillbillies we have in this country would even consider electing a guy like this to high office.

In a country where you will have to admit; we moan about EVERYTHING, we pretty much rip into our own country more than any other nationality etc, you can't help but love boris in some way. He is just like a bumbling uncle who appears to be drunk and seems to be away with the fairies most days. I think he is great, I cant stand having someone in some sort of power who is a clown *cough cough* ed miliband *cough*. Ive been around long enough I would think to notice that the country is never really run any different under different parties. With labour its "better" but we have horrible debts, with tories we try and repay off those debts but the "everyday working man" doesnt like the fact that they are arguably left with the "biggest burden" and thus the cycle repeats. tldr, he is awesome :P.

i agree completely, did you see him host Have i Got News for You? he just had no control or idea of what was going on, it was hilarious, mainly because he was so out of his depth just doing a vaguely intellectual, sometimes political quiz show.

This is my favorite "Mitt Romney tries to connect with people outside of his comfort zone" video. The one where he tries relating to Nascar fans by saying his friends own Nascar teams is a close second.

Great, we're going to have a president with a backbone that doesn't bow down to kings from other nations like Obama did. Also, I think it's about time David Cameron should recognize his superiors.

Fair point, but at least he spoke up in the first place. Him speaking up alone could have prevented terror attacks.

Not since WW2 have their been so many soldiers in London, a city which already has tons of cameras already set up. Hell they even put SAMs on top of peoples' apartments.

So, and I am surprised I'm even saying this, I'm inlcined to agree with Cameron that some bureaucratic inefficiency is to be expected and kind of minor in the grand scheme of the security overkill London put inot place. Romney just wanted to bring him his Olymics experience, which is fine for campaigning but diplomatically kind of obnoxious to visit a potential fellow leader and criticize something straight out of the gate.
