Great, we're going to have a president with a backbone that doesn't bow down to kings from other nations like Obama did. Also, I think it's about time David Cameron should recognize his superiors.

kingkong0124

Well, no. After Cameron made fun of him Romney responded by trying to dial back his own comments, there is a link in the OP. So I'n not sure who is winning on your Presidential spine-o-meter.

Fair point, but at least he spoke up in the first place. Him speaking up alone could have prevented terror attacks.

Are you for real? :?

You cannot deny that Romney's (a very successful and smart man that organized the Olympics before) criticism will cause the Brits to step their game up, so to speak.

Based on the fact that England seems to be completely disregarding his opinion and are just making fun of him, yes you can deny that.

England needs to get a backbone. If someone of superiority constructively criticizes you, you listen, not whine and moan.

How is telling Romney to fvck off not having a backbone? Wouldn't a better example of not having a backbone be if England just decided to bend over and let Mitt tell them what to do?

You keep harping on this "England needs to get a backbone" thing that makes absolutely no sense in this situation.

They need to learn to take criticism from superiors without crying and moaning, that takes a backbone (or actually, no it doesn't, you're right, England is just dumb). England is like the disobedient student in this whole situation who cries, moans, thinks he's always right, and causes trouble while Romney is the teacher that has good intentions with his criticism.

Are you telling me you think Romney knows about all of the planning that's going into these games? That's crazy. He went into England acting like a know-it-all and now the British officials/press are rightfully calling him out for acting like a condescending prick.

Plus, winter olympics in Salt Lake City and summer olympics in London are totally different animals.

also, the Winter Olympics were in Salt Lake City, terror alerts were at their height, and so was Al Qaeda and Osama.

This is my favorite "Mitt Romney tries to connect with people outside of his comfort zone" video. The one where he tries relating to Nascar fans by saying his friends own Nascar teams is a close second.

Yeah, that was pretty hilarious. He's in between a rock and a hard place. His personality doesn't do him any favors, but when he tries to be something he is not, he makes matters even worse.

I said this earlier in the thread, the city is full of soldiers and, in case of a terrorist air attack(?) London put missiles on the rooftops of the buildings. Mitt just wanted to flaunt his previous work in the Olympics in any way he could find. If anything he could've said hey, maybe your security is kind of overkill.

Clearly London will not survive the Olympics. This is why Mitt Romney should be president. Mark my words: When the Queen of England is beheaded by Islamic extremists as the world watches, remember the man who warned us.

Mitt Romney issues concerns about private security companies managing security at the Olympics. Mitt Romney therefore doubts the free market's ability to work without government intervention or criticism. Mitt Romney is thus a socialist.

He had a chance to show that he's good on the international scale, but is failing miserably. I don't think it will change the election here, but if he is elected, it doesn't bode well.

jimkabrhel

According to some poll I saw on TV 40% of Americans think Romney would make wiser foreign policy decision while 48% of Americans think Obama would make smarter foreign policy decisions. I actually think that they would pretty much make the same foreign policy decisions, much like Obama's foreign policy is basically the same as Bush's.

I don't really think this is a big deal. Basically from what I understand Romney said reports about possible security and traffic issues (including some strikes) were disconcerting. That is not really a big deal, it was a fair criticism to make and not really an insult. I do find Cameron's remarks (specifically the "middle of nowhere" part) to be disconcerting and quite offensive, and they could cause him and his party to lose some support among rural areas of the UK.

Romney's little gaffe is really nothing compared to Obama's gaffe about "we don't have a stonger friend and stonger ally than Nicolas Sarkozy and the French people" which probably resulted in a whole lot of teacups dropping accompanied by cries of "bloody hell". Obama appears to have a history of uwittingly offending Britain or underming their interests although he has made attempts to mend U.S.-U.K. ties.
