What's your most favorite time of day -Dawn, Day, Dusk, or Night?
I love the night.
Have you ever been somewhere that felt haunted?
Yes. There was once an old abandoned house near the house where I did a few of my elementary school growing years. You could sit in that house all alone and hear noises end on end as if someone was walking around, stomping around, dancing around, etc. I sensed danger anytime I went there, which is of course why I risked trespassing charges to go there.
And it was dangerous after all! Turned out all those sounds were due to the house's shaky, rotting structure. When I walked to it one morning to hide out, the roof had fallen in. Not too long after, it was completely demoished and towed away.
Another place that always felt "haunted" to me was an old graveyard near my elementary school. There was a little white church that had been there for goodness knows how long, and it had a gated graveyard beside it. The interesthing thing is that it was an historic graveyard... the bodies went back to the late 1600s through the late 1700s. Yet almost nobody knew it existed, or at least no one said anything. I am sure the Church people knew, but hardly anyone around ever mentioned it. I didn't see a grave in that cemetary later than 1790, and unfortunately most of the graves were for children.
The place really creeped me out, which is why I loved to go there and hide out. However, I was scared away from the place almost permanently due to a vagrant. He was someone I had seen around town, a homeless dude, which was really big news where I grew up since nobody was homeless as far as I knew outside of that guy. He was a frightening sight. He had frizzy hair, he was gauntly thin, missing an arm, and limped around all the time. He also couldn't speak plainly. The worst thing though was that he had such a terrible case of gum disease, he would often bleed over his lips like slobber or dribble.
I was hanging out in the cemetary one fall day and heard what I was sure was someone walking around. I looked behind me and saw nobody. Soon as I turned around I heard it again. Then again. I finally started walking through the leaves slowly looking around. I walked up to the biggest grave in the place and he slowly rose up from behind it calling his gibberish. Even though I had seen him before, I couldn't make the connection in my mind and when I saw the blood coming out of his mouth I just flipped and ran as fast as I could out of the cemetary and down to the empty elementary school.
Poor old guy. He couldn't help that he was scary. And he was probably hungry too. I've learned since then not to take ghosts seriously and I'd probably try to help him a bit now. But back then I believe that scared me more than I've ever been scared in my life.
Do you ever read books?
I used to read them a lot. I just don't have as much time to do it now. So I listen to them instead. Yes, I've given into the Audible curse and become an old lady.
If so then what's your favorite novel?
I don't have a favorite right now. I do have a genre that keeps peaking up though -- dystopian novels.
That's what makes me like Atlas Shrugged, 1984, Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, Anthem, etc. interesting novels to me.
I also love deeply philosophical novels in general, such as Notes from the Underground or The Unbearable Lightness of Being. The latter novel actually was my favorite book for many years, just due to the fact that it took me so long and so many readings to really understand the point. If it had been a mess, I might have lost interest, but since it also told an interesting story, I felt compelled to keep reading.
What do you think is your most favorite game console?
In history? Probably the NES. It introduced me to my two favorite game series, Zelda and Metroid. It's hard not to appreciate its contribution to my life.
Do you like spiders?
I despise them now, but when I was a kid I adored them. I seemed to have no fear of them at one point. I used to find them in their webs and sort of adopt them -- finding bugs around and feeding them to the little buggers. Some of them were sizeable and I'd let them crawl on my hand and arm, with very little concern of them biting me, even though they were clearly very aggressive in many cases.
That all changed when I took a visit to my aunt's house in another State. I don't remember exaclty what time of the year it was, but I was visiting and I was sleeping in one of her spare rooms when I woke up feeling things crawling over me. I couldnt' see because it was dark, so I got up and turned the light on. That's when I noticed that little baby black spiders were crawling all over me, and in looking back at the bed, they were all over there too. I screamed and woke my aunt up, who told me to go shower. I did, and tons of little spiders fell off of me. Even then, I had to let my aunt pick living and dead ones out of my hair. One of the adults at the time (I believe it was my grandfather, but it might have been my aunt) found a dead black widow under the bed and a hatched nest.
Well ... that did it for me. I've never been able to stand spiders of any variety again. A few months ago when I was cleaning out one of my pool filters (you have to stick your hands down in and pull things out), a black widow on the top of the lid who had been nesting there to catch bugs that climbed out of the water crawled up my hand. Then I noticed a second one. I am not squeemish at all and I rarely faint outside of some physical problem (like blood loss), but I very nearly fainted when I saw them, especially the second one, since it made me think I was once again covered with the little bastards. I think the only thing that stopped me from passing out was a desire not to get bitten. I knocked them off and killed them dead, and immediately thereafter called a lawn exterminator and hired someone to maintain my pool.
Are you a good Artist?
I play piano, does that count?
What's your favorite Holiday?
My favorite religious celebration is Hag HaSukkoth. It was like a vacation every year where we had a green light to spend lots of money. Now however I am going to observe it in Jerusalem, and it's a bit more daunting to me than it is exciting. I'm not sure what to expect.
If we are talking about regular holidays though, then Thanskgiving would be it.
If there was one place in the world you could travel to right now, and be on vacation, what would it be?
New Zealand... just about anywhere in New Zealand. I've been many times and I adore it.
Do you have any favorite Sports?
Nope. I guess I can enjoy watching football on some occasions, but they are rare. I enjoy playing Tennis, but I am terrible at it.
(Other than Mozart) do you have a favorite rock band/song/music genre?
My favorite band is The Smiths. I also love The Cure, Talking Heads, R.E.M., The B-52s, Joy Division, The Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elvis Costello... I guess there's a theme in there somewhere.
(Actually scratch that last one -- Elvis is dead).
What's your most favorite candy?
I like candies based on caramel, dulce de leche, and peanut butter.
