This one reminds me of that scene in Spiderman 2 where Spiderman stopped the elevated train from crashing on the terminal point of the rails.

So, I would call Spiderman. :P

Now the serious answer is that I would pull the lever, while at the same time shouting at the woman to get out of the tracks. :)

That way I will know that I have done my best to avoid both "hits".

Well it is, because you are the one killing the lady, where as you can leave it and try and forget about it letting 15 peeps die.

Either way your responsible for someones death. You pull the lever your responsible for the death of the one, if you dont then your allowing fifteen people to die and its your fault because you didnt pull the lever. Id rather be responsible for the death of one, then failing to save fifteen.

For a way to save all of them, throw your corpse on the tracks and hope your dead body will slow down the tram enough. After all, if you are talking numbers, 16>1.

Whatever you decide, all this proves is you shouldn't have a potentially bloody roller coaster as public transportation.

One little thing I would like to say is this, and I hate myself for quoting Stalin, but: "The death of a million is a statistic, the death of one is a tragedy."

Oooh, I know a way to make this more interesting. Instead of a being a random stranger in the tram's path, what would you do if it was a loved one?

actually has quality of life is improving in various parts of the world with high populations the over all population will have to go down. the earth can only support 2-3 billion people with a western standard of living.

This one is like the scene in Spider-Man where the Green Goblin lets the girl go and he lets go of the cable car. Is Spider-Man going to save the girl or the people in the cable car? He ends up saving the girl and the people in the cable car so there's your answer.

I'd save the 15 people. The woman standing on the tracks is there to commit suicide anyway, why else would she be standing on a track waiting for a train to hit her?

Would you feel the same way if the 15 people happened to be a group of ex-cons, maybe some murderes on there, couple petophiles, who knows....you dont know any of the people so your decision could reach farther than you expected. What if a a few of the 15 that live later go out and blow up a building or murderer someone. How can you decide.....?
