My mom saw that. I think she did say it was pretty disturbing.Â

audition's pretty freaky, but it's got nothing on Saló (adapted from the book the 120 days of sodom by the marquis de sade). bascially 4 rich and powerful people decide to kidnap a bunch of kids, take them to the middle of nowhere to do whatever they want with them (and in the book, they do), all whilst 3 prostitutes (4 in the book) tell them all the depraved stories and things they've done in their life. the films very toned down compared to the book but even then i'd probs get modded for going into any kind of depth, but it's basically a very sick film and 1 you stay away from :(
in the book everyone dies, except the 4 'heroes' as they're described and their wives (who they've taken from the kidnapped kids). in the film 1 half of the kids (the half who've been 'good' ie adapted to their life of depravity) get to torture and kill the other half (who for them, im sure death was a very welcome release for)Â

oh and if you liked audition, check out gozu. same director, a million times freakier :)
I thought Audition was waaaaay overrated. No movies have really made me cringe badly unless it's something I'm really compulsive about or afraid of. The needles in Saw 2 made me really upset because I hate them so much....and the fingernails in Texas Chainsaw Massacre bugged me.....
Most disturbing I've seen though, would have to be once of the Saws....the end of Wicker Man maybe, the movie wasn't amazing, but the actual Wicker Man was crazy. Hostel was stupid though. That Salo sounds like the real deal....
Here's a few off the top of my head that have definitely left a mark on me...
Wes Craven's "The Last House on the Left"
Â
Guinea Pig Series ~ Mermaid in a Manhole/He Never Dies
Â
Kei Fujiwara's "Organ"
Â
Pasolini's "Salo"
Â
Here's a list of movies I've found particularly disturbing that have stuck with me...
Requium for a Dream
Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass(TV) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0088693/)... this is basically b/c the jabberwocky scared the sh!t out of me as a kid.
American History XÂ
Pet Sematary (not that disturbing a movie really, but Zelda -the sister or whatever- scarred me for life i think)
Ghoulies (I saw it when i was 4 i think)
Â
a lot of horror movies have decent scare factor, but most don't have me feeling ill years after I see them. These did, more or less.Â
Â
The movie "Audition", i heard was one of the most disturbing movie ever made. Is there a movie more disturbing than this? The only one I think can come close is "Blind Beast".

before i even clicked on the topic....that movie came to mind. disturbing is almost too light a term.Â
"Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma", yeah that was a sick movie, espicially for the time, i think it was in the 70's.
SOedipus
Â
YES! Salò is the one! Thanks.
Â
Like two other people said, Requiem for a Dream. One of the most depressing movies I have ever seen.

And I just watched Begotten yesterday. Really creepy. Gives you a "what the heck is going on?" thing.
In Japan, there is a movie...I forget the title, that focuses on 3 situations in which the true primal instincts of a human are portrayed. The first instance is of a woman who goes to this old lady claiming to know the secret to eternal youth. The old lady cooks her a meal and she eats it and thats it. The woman later finds out that the old lady uses live fetuses in the dish, the film then shows her cutting off baby limbs and cooking them/garnishing them. It made me sick.TheSystemLord1
You're probably thinking of the "3 Extremes" movie.
It had three tales the first of which is the story you mention. That tale is by the Hong Kong director Fruit Chan and it is a shortened version of a movie he was already working on entitled "Dumplings".
The other two stories are, in my opinion, a so-so effort by the Japanese director Takashi Miike and the very excellent short by the Korean director Chan-wook Park. If you despised the shortened version of Dumplings then you should probably steer clear of the full movie.Â

Oh my, you lie!!
After watching "Salo o le 120 giornate di Sodoma" ( Salo, or the 120 days of Sodom ), that probably has to top the list at #1 or #2 as most Disturbing movie.
Stay away from that one, folks! :(
This thread caught my interest, so I watched Eraserhead and Audition. To my dismay they did disturb me in any way. Eraserhead was very weird, but not disturbing. It actually seemed kind of cheesy. Next up though is Requiem for a Dream and perhaps that Salo one.
