What's your most hated counter argument on OT? We've all gotten into (heated) discussions, hell just go into a religion or anti-rap thread and you can't go 2 posts without tripping over an argument.

Mine is when any other opinion apart from the fellow poster is classified as "closed-mindedness".

I'm getting pretty sick of the Obama v Hilary debates that've been going about since forever.

I really hate when someone is talking about a band and says "They have no talent". It's like, if you're popular enough to have funs and be debated on Gamespot, then you must have some type of talent.

Alternatively, when someone asks "Is this band talented?" it irritates me. Let me get my scale of talent.

I dare say I get rather aggitated by the fellows that say "it is my opinion I feel no need to defend it" then why pray tell would you publicly state you opinion if you are not prepared to stand for it. And then I must say they have the audacity to say that we have free speech when someone disagees. Just because I say your wrong doesn't mean I am ignoring your rights.

I guess the religion vs logic ones. I mean I love to discuss and debate all kinds of stuff, it's just that you end up saying the same stuff over and over. But whatever, it's still good debate practice.

Explained? Try you've made stuff up because you can't explain it, noone can.

haha...true... I hate the religious threads, because everyone is so blind in their perfect religions they will hardly stop to think about anyone else's views... I'm fairly religious, but I don't claim to be sure about anything... stupid religious threads....

The religion vs science ones are pretty bad. How many times (and how many threads) must be created to say, "I'm right, you're wrong."? Because that's pretty much all they do. That, and people have a bad habit of copying and pasting either bible quotes, or wikipedia articles on religion or evolution. As if that somehow validates their argument. Pretty much why I tend to avoid these all together.

Religion is the worst...it's kind of silly actually. Some people here are like robots or something, you could say "god isn't real" and then you could have two or three people going at it for about 10 pages, just arguing over something neither person knows about for sure. Just look at it like this, nobody knows for sure if there is a god or not, at least nobody who is still alive. There's no point in arguing about it.

I believe the words you said was Christianity is "detrimental to society" as a whole, along with other critisisms of church leaders. And, with Obama's church, that is "unashmedely black" and has adopted the black value system and black tenents you siad they are "not really racist". Biased much?

Let me whip out the list (from most hated to least):

  1. Religion
  2. Politics
  3. Music
  4. Science (especially evolution)
  5. Abortion
  6. Movies
  7. Superiority of countries
  8. TV shows
  9. Food/Drinks
  10. Clothing
Essentially, about 85% of OT.

Objecting to a religious institution is far different from claiming that "all Christians are __". The latter would be a generalization. What you quoted was an opinion. I've never explicitly defended Obama's church. I've argued against the assumption that Obama is a closet racist because of the attendance at such a church. Because I defend Obama doesn't mean I like religion. Far from it. It means that I don't consider such personal trivialities to be major deciding factors in an election. Oh, and at the implication that you aren't biased:
