ok i know i'm going to get back feedback for this but i'm really sick of hearing about the beatles all the time. i think them and tool have the most opressive fanbase. dissonantblack

Hell I love Tool, the 10000 days logo is a metal work project for my university; I just tell them it's an awesome band you should check them out and that's it, it's their choice, we are not oppressive at all; well just the ones that just got into Tool but once you've been listening for over five years you lighten up.

anyway, ON TOPIC the most overrated band in the world has to be Radiohead. IMO

Nirvana- Bad vocals and really dull writing.

AC/ DC- 95% of their music sounds the same

Tool- good bass and drums, but the writing is kinda dull and Maynard's vocals don't have much range. They do have power though.

Win, but I can easily see someone not liking Opeth, particularly the vocals if they aren't into the growling style.

KISS, I don't think they would of made it if it wasn't for make-up, and pyrotechnics. They do have a few good songs though, but nothing to make them as epic as people claim.jrhawk42

IO think Muse has a few really good song on each cd, but isn'tconsistant enough. And Radiohead's OK Computer/ Bends era is not overrated.

How can you say Mayhem is overrated when barely anybody knows them?

With a lot of their music, it's kind of the point. Just because it's not what you're into doesn't mean it's over rated.

For me, I'd say AC/DC. They keep rewriting their old stuff over and over again(Angus said so himself), and yet they're considered rock gods. To me, a band that pulls bullsh*t like that, and gets a huge amount of credit for it, is an over rated band.

Oh, and I can see what you mean with Tool. I'm a fan, but they have a lot of diehard fanswhoconsider them gods, not musicians. It's pretty rediculas.

agreed. i'm a tool fan, even to the point where'd i call them one of my all-time favorite bands. however, i hate most of their fan base. i once recommended opeth and porcupine tree to a group of tool fans, and they immediately started swearing at me for "attacking the best band in the world." they act like tool is the only band they can listen to...

anyway, i'd say kiss is the most overrated band. almost all of their songs are extremely repetetive, and are all very simplistic.

Good taste dude, Tool, Porcupine Tree and Opeth are all very impressive bands, progressive all the way =P

On topic: All I´m going to say is Context, art = Context, you can´t just look at a painting or listen to a song and say, oh ya it´s sucks, you have to know what's going on, why it was made or when, or with what purpose, and I don´t believe the bands you guys are listing as overrated you guys have any real knowledge of them, cause I've seen some pretty amazing bands listed. The only bands I feel worth mentioning as overrated are nirvana and the beatles, and I like both of them, it´s just they are more talked about because of their place in history as opposed to their actual music.

Well, you can believe what you want, but i'm of the firm thought that all bands are rated as they are for a reason, and that saying it's overrated because you don't like it is meaningless. Just my two cents, carry on.aaaaarrrrggggg

You are correct good sir, just wanted to stress how importante it is for the individual to be able to know what he is looking at in order to get something out of it, looking at a picasso painting anyone can say, "this isn't art, I can draw that, heck I can draw better" well if you put things into context you put them into perspective and everything changes, and most of the great bands out there fall into this same principle, it isn't all about ear candy, it's about the message and it´s experssion, and listening to 1 or 2 songs and saying "I don't get why this band is so good" makes you(not you specifically) look stupid. A lot of people stated bands like radiohead and said stuff like "I feel like falling asleep when I listen to them" I can't even begin to disect how many things are wrong with that.
