[QUOTE="RenegadePatriot"][QUOTE="ninjacat11"]300/ Star Wars.pianist

how is Star Wars overrated?

If he thinks it's over-rated, he obviously feels that the quality of the movie does not justify the degree of popularity it has achieved. I agree that both of his choices are indeed over-rated. When it comes to Star Wars, I find the plot too dry, the setting too unbelievable, and too many of the characters downright irritating to enjoy it. The fact that so many people proclaim it to be the greatest film ever created only heighten its over-rated status in my eyes. But that's just an opinion, of course - just like that of those who feel it IS the greatest film ever created.

I must say that I agree with you that Star Wars is very overrated. Hell, almost every part of the plot was taken from some other story and on purpose. It was almost Lucas's way of bragging about how much he knew about hero tales.....

I must say that Scarface is probably more overrated though. Tony Montana is just a crappy/shallow character (He is almost completely devoid of emotions) and yet he is a twisted icon in pop culture. I am sorry, but I don't see a cocaine addict/drug lord as anyone to look up too. The rest of the movie pretty much sucked too IMO. I thought it was downright boring....

Scarface, I hated that movie. Also, I think Transformers and 300 are overrated. They're good, but everyone holds them up like they are the most amazing movies ever created.

I would agree that the films are very overrated but the fictional universe of Star Wars itself, along with the Extended Universe material is where Star Wars shines. It is one of the most in-depth and fleshed out fictional universes I have witnessed besides Tolkien's Middle Earth (for one man to do what he did, he deserves much praise). The Star Wars movies are quite bad films but they are a way of introducing you to the larger picture of the whole deal you get with Star Wars.

Yeah. I enjoyed Kotor, X-Wing Alliance, and Jedi Outcast more than the films, I think.

I've disliked a lot of older movies that people verbally fellate to a ridiculous degree. Maybe it's a result of all that hype being built up and when it comes time to actually sit down and watch it, I'm expecting a masterpiece and instead get...just another movie.

-2001: A Space Odyssey. I have a hard time watching this without nodding off, to be honest. It's as boring as **BLEEP**, which is weird because **bleep** isn't boring at all. Unless it's someone else doing it halfway around the world and I'm just sort of sitting staring off into space. That's kinda like 2001.

-Goodfellas. Good cast, okay dialog, meandering story. The whole thing just sort of feels disconnected and plodding, like most of Scorcese's work. I'd go so far as to call him the most overrated director of all-time, but I enjoyed Last Temptation of Christ and I haven't seen Raging Bull. Taxi Driver is up there with paint drying on walls, though, Deniro with a funny haircut or not.

-The Deer Hunter. 2% of the movie is good, in the form of the roulette scene. The rest is godawful. Utterly godawful. If anyone ever tells you that you must watch this movie, that it's an absolute film classic, punch them in the face and kick them in the balls. Please.

Oddly enough the one insanely hyped classic movie that I enjoyed is Citizen Kane - and with it being touted as the best film of all-time by a lot of people, it had a lot to live up to. Interesting that even given its age it can still tell a story better than most modern movies and its pacing hasn't aged the same way as those movies that bored me to tears.

Ya! It looked like they made a new Starwars movie to introduce Starwars to a new generation of kids or something.

I agree with Goodfellas but haven't seen the Deer Hunter or 2001.

As for Citizen Kane, that is an amazing movie. Watched that in my film class and I have to agree with what I had been told before: Anyone going into film (like I am) NEEDS to see that movie.

oooookkkkkkkkk.

More like a great, character driven story with some great dialogue. It is probably me and my friends most quoted movie, thanks to that beginning dinner scene and those jerks making fun of Cho at the bus stop.

The Godfather, I mean it's really not that damn good. Plus Star Wars and 300, I mean Star Wars just doesn't interest me and 300 isn't really bad it's just that nothing much happened like how I saw it in the trailers.

I enjoy the movie more when I just watch it as a drugged up insane teenage comedy. There are so many awesome little moments in the film that it's kind of a shame that the director decided to make the entire movie as overwrought as it is.

Once you start analyzing it to any degree it kind of falls apart, and the sad thing is that in the commentary the director's actual intentions are even more bizarre (and stupid) than you'd guess by watching the movie.

Of course, I'd love it just for Patrick Swayze's ridiculous self-help tapes and his child porn fetish.

Well, I'm not saying it's overrated...but I couldn't get into Raging Bull when I watched it. I'm sure I just need a second viewing, because I've never met anyone who's ever said anything bad about it at all. It's probably just me. :?
