I was listening to music the other day, and I came to realize that many bands are just way too similar, almost to the point where it makes me sick. So, I started thinking about the most UNIQUE bands out there. Which band(s) do you think is/are unique, and stand out from everyone else. I'd have to say Electric Light Orchestra, their instrumentals are really unique.

You actually like Nickelback? My dad loves that band. Anyways, I think Rush, Pink Floyd, White Zombie, Machine Head, Chimaira, Primus, Rage Against The Machine, Gojira, Trepalium, Septic Flesh, Mastodon, Aspid, Gorguts, Atheist, Fear Factory, Queen, Children of Bodom, Tool, etc. are unique.

Coheed and Cambria

The Strokes

CoCa is prog and their songs actually tell a story, that they have written comics for, and when you know whats going on it gets pretty insane.

I would list a bunch of bands, but really, "any prog band" is the only answer I need.

Yes to the first, no to the second. Coldplay are a blatant Radiohead ripoff. My answer is Muse, and before you call them a Radiohead ripoff they aren't. Aside from Matt Bellamy's falsetto, the band have very different styles. Listen to the Origin of Symmetry Album, very unique.

Try the Progressive Rock and Experimental scene. A nice taste of unique for you would be Frank Zappa. Brilliant music and very unique and interesting. If you like heavy music you might like maudlin of the Well. Avant-Garde Metal. Or maybe try the Post-Rock scene. Godspeed You! Black Emperor is a good place to start

Best Muse song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9qWbWn6sos Just kidding, Origin of Symmetry is pretty good. Citizen Erased is particularly good.

Like pregnancy, unique is a binary state. There are not degrees of uniqueness; something is either unique, or it is not.

Nobody's mentioned Meshuggah, and I'd say they're definitely unique, with their crazy irregular timings and custom 8-string guitars.

Also I think Incubus have a rather unique sound (or they used to).
