It's the Internet. We will be onto the next random news story in a week. Its not like this is RL news... yet.please tell me why when parents are actually being parents it's like breaking news on the internet?
i mean what we have to reward the parents for doing good now too?

Woah.. parenting is still around? :o What a rare treat.DeeJayInphinity
My thoughts exactly. Good on her.
Nice one :) I wish all parents were like that
And how old was that kid?! On the pic he looked about 4 and had a 360 and looked at porn! That's insane
Does it say anywhere how old the kids was? Restricting his porn access was going a bit too far, I think. That doesn't have anything to do with anything. Let the guy watch.ScarebabyHe was 12 :?. Too young to look at porn IMO. Probably just wanted to look all 'manly' to his friends.
The woman gave a brat like that the Xbox to begin with (assumedly) so it's surely not SUCH a big deal to take it back off him when he started vandalising her stuff.
I just read that and think "why is this news ? what were people expecting her to do ? I don't get it"
I can only assume that parents no longer discipline kids or something, which would explain a lot about the world.
What will be on the front page tomorrow ?
"Mother buys young daughter slave - daughter neglects slave - mother sells slave - what a great mother"
*sigh.....
The posting on Craig's list has been deleted. She probably got a few too many offers.guynamedbillyHaha. I just noticed that myself.
Stupid.
I would've just kept the 360, not let him play it, and grounded him until he could pay for a new vacuum cleaner by himself.

She could probably get quite a lot of money for it now to be honest... There's probably some people out there who'd pay a lot just because of this news story.

My mom was never big on the punishment. She did the "you just wait until your father gets home." That was so much worse. I'd be stuck waiting in my room for 2 hours dreading the moment I heard the door open and close.
Damn straight! Instead of punishing her kid with physical pain, she takes the clever path and shows the kid that the consequences will be intense indeed. And have much more of an impact than a couple slaps. And in the process, the mother made herself look good instead of selfish and barbaric.
More parents need to be like this instead of wussies. I'm not talking about emotionally scarring a child, but disciplining them in a smart and effective way.
Still, she has to understand that she can't have her son as a baby forever. Dont know if completely locking off the internet was a good idea. I dont know how old the kid is, but it seems like she completely shut him out on that end instead of talking to him about it.
I remember a similar story once a kid kicked his dad's brand new sterio, then the dad got mad and sold his 360 (Which was brand new, he kicked it because they would let him open it yet).. Isn't it weird it's always the 360's that get taking away? I guess there worser then I thought :p.b3yondstupidity
Better than saying "Oh, he's only experiencing anger..." I hate to say it, but the parents that don't parent make the South Park adults look like people you'd find in ELO's Mr. Blue Sky
:o!! Thats how you gotta teach these punk ass kids these days we werent this rude to our parents back in the da
Bravo mom :)
I'm told (by people who were probably raised like this kid was) that long posts are not
welcome here at Gamespot.
That being the case, I blogged about this.
But then the crappy Gamespot glitchy text input thing kept eating any HTML then refusing to let me post a blog since my post has 'no valid HTML tags' ..... rather than breaking out the axe on my computer, I posted it as a MySpace blog instead.
This way, at least people are unlikely to feel like going on about it if they decide to ignore what I've written.
The 'Kickass Mom' who's selling her bratty kid's XBox 360

Can you give your general idea so I can decide whether it's worth remembering this 7 hours from now? :P
:D aw, thanks for asking !
This is the first 'post' worth of what I've written about it so far (hopes it isn't too long (O.O) :

So the situation is that there is an American mother, who has chosen to reproduce and then has broken up with her partner for unspecified reasons. No mention has been made of any contact of any kind between the father and the kid, so he's out of the picture. It's implied that she has more than one kid.
She has bought her son a PC/Mac with broadband internet (required kit for porn surfing), to be located in his room or some other not especially prominent location (assumedly, if she's oblivious to his internet activities... unless she REALLY couldn't care less about her son...) Certainly, she seems to have shown no interest in what he was doing with it.
She's also bought him an XBox 360 complete with various violent games which it's illegal for him to play due to him being 13 or younger when she got them, and them being M-Rated.
It sounds to me as if this woman seemed to be choosing to use her privelidged consumerist status to use expensive gadgets as a convenient replacement for having to show affection, interest and attention towards her son and his wellbeing.
It would be surprising if this hasn;t escaped the attention of her son.
Her son clearly believed that there was a good chance he might get out of doing the chores by breaking the equipment needed to do so (the vacuum cleaner) .... which i think starkly demonstrates the level of ongoing discipline the mother felt moved to engage herself in.
For comparison, my brother and I were always aware that such behaviour would get us nothing more than punishment and it wouldn't even have occured to us to behave like that..... and definitely not by the age of 13 !
She seems to be starving her son of affection, and has been buying him plenty of new M-Rated games to play.... so it seems ironic then, that she is so adamantly against him watching porn (for unspecified reasons) when that is just an extension of the way she is raising him (from what i can see) .....

I go on to be rather philosophical and contemplative , looking at why the mother isn;t such a great mom from a more distanced perspective and considering why her approaches are perhaps not the best, or how her son could be better helped to develop.
:)

I'll check it out later.:) Spacefeline
For the too long thing, there's two problems.
When a post is literally too long, or when a single paragraph within the post is too long.
Either that, or the problem is that people are too lazy to read. I fall into that group occasionally, but, I figure if I'm too lazy to read, I should be too lazy to post about being too lazy to read.
I'm getting the " Your HTML is not well-formed - no valid tags were found." beat-down from GameSpot, so i have to post with no HTML or forum tags :-P whee. If anyone knows why, please help me out as i cant figure it out. Thanks.

Excellent, thanks a lot !
:) I hope you find my approach to be worth checking out.

:) haaa yes, this particular one has ended up being literally too long. It started off as 3 posts (at my forum) then got merged into one for the blog post, but I can see that a 'Gamespot post' ends up looking rather larger than a standard 'my forum' post, if that makes sense :) so even if i broke it up, it would have been a bit much I reckon.

heh yeah it's the lack of sincerity that bugs me, because it makes their comments just an obvious diss, sometimes it's as if they're trying to bully people who are able to write a decent amount into not doing it or feeling like they shouldn't.
If people are just feeling lazy or tired though, then that's fine.... and with blog posts they feel less time-specific than a forum post, so I think they can be good for people to go back to later on if they want to, as well as for people to use for writing long posts.

Can't help, it's a source of constant frustration for me. Some people say copying your business into notepad and back into GS works, but it never has for me.

Sure.
I hope so, too. :P

It is a diss, plain and simple.
