It is a diss, plain and simple.

;)

Not to worry - i can metamorphose into a strange creature who thrives on their asshattery.

I produce chibi-art in the 5tyle of Pon & Zi..... so I'm merrily making an ascerbic and profoundly psychological, yet whimsical, cute and accessible cartoon based on this particular aspect of human nature..... it's already sketched, now i have to ink it.

Lol, nice job by the mother! It's nice to see some effective discipline now-a-days, instead of the usual lectures that 90% of teens shrug off.

With the sudden increase in strict parents selling their kids' video games on the internet I'm starting to think that not all of this is legit. Why? Well, look at what happens to their bottom line. Remember the Guitar Hero III auction back in December? And look at this one: only one day into the 7 day auction and the price is already $455, 23 bids, and 26 questions. If I were the kind of guy who sold his consoles I would definitely conjure up a story about how I caught my kid doing something really bad and how I'm selling his stuff as punishment. Hell, I think I'll go out, buy a system, and do that right now. Chances are good I'll make at least 2-3x my initial investment. Just drop an email to a site like kotaku or destructoid with the link to the auction and back story, sit back, and watch the cash flow in.

:D aw, thanks for asking !

This is the first 'post' worth of what I've written about it so far (hopes it isn't too long (O.O) :

_________________________________________________

So the situation is that there is an American mother, who has chosen to reproduce and then has broken up with her partner for unspecified reasons. No mention has been made of any contact of any kind between the father and the kid, so he's out of the picture. It's implied that she has more than one kid.

She has bought her son a PC/Mac with broadband internet (required kit for porn surfing), to be located in his room or some other not especially prominent location (assumedly, if she's oblivious to his internet activities... unless she REALLY couldn't care less about her son...) Certainly, she seems to have shown no interest in what he was doing with it.

She's also bought him an XBox 360 complete with various violent games which it's illegal for him to play due to him being 13 or younger when she got them, and them being M-Rated.

It sounds to me as if this woman seemed to be choosing to use her privelidged consumerist status to use expensive gadgets as a convenient replacement for having to show affection, interest and attention towards her son and his wellbeing.

It would be surprising if this hasn;t escaped the attention of her son.

Her son clearly believed that there was a good chance he might get out of doing the chores by breaking the equipment needed to do so (the vacuum cleaner) .... which i think starkly demonstrates the level of ongoing discipline the mother felt moved to engage herself in.

For comparison, my brother and I were always aware that such behaviour would get us nothing more than punishment and it wouldn't even have occured to us to behave like that..... and definitely not by the age of 13 !

She seems to be starving her son of affection, and has been buying him plenty of new M-Rated games to play.... so it seems ironic then, that she is so adamantly against him watching porn (for unspecified reasons) when that is just an extension of the way she is raising him (from what i can see) .....

_______________________________________

I go on to be rather philosophical and contemplative , looking at why the mother isn;t such a great mom from a more distanced perspective and considering why her approaches are perhaps not the best, or how her son could be better helped to develop.

:)

Spacefeline
Agreed. Maybe she trusted her son and thought he was mature enough but really he only acted like that so he could do bad things, IDK. She might've have been an irresponsible parent with some of her decisions but she sure redeems herself with what just happened here XD.

You know, it is really beside the point what the dude's sexual preferences are.... but whoever even said he was looking at non-gay porn ? People just seem to be assuming that based on statistical behaviour of the majority....

Yeah... if he was looking at gay porn, you don't think it would be part of the story? It's way too sensational a topic to not be part of it.

Yeah... if he was looking at gay porn, you don't think it would be part of the story? It's way too sensational a topic to not be part of it.

If you are going to be sarcastically arrogant in your certainty, you should at least be sure you're right first.

The only way for this kind of humdrum domestic story to hit the media would be for the mother in question to write a first hand account, submit it to a news channel or other media outlet, and wait for them to take the bait.

Do most mothers seem to you like the sort of people who would think "hey, I think i will needlessly tell everyone that my son is gay because it is just too sensational to keep to myself" if they found a stash of gay porn on their computer ?

She appears to be trying to get people to regard her as being 'the best mom and most kickass EVER' .... and the only way to do that is to behave in a way which establishes rapport with the 'cool crowd' ...

The best way to do the opposite would be to announce that your son is gay since apart from anything else a lot of people like to pretend that homosexuality is all 'in the upbringing' in the futile hope that this belief will make them immune to the 'horrors' of producing a homosexual child themself.

Come on...... think about it before being patronising, eh ?

It's hardly as if the news channel has every last detail about the situation and gets to pick and choose among all of the most sensational bits.... since they're being spoon-fed the stoy, they can only use the sensational bits which the mother chooses to let them know about.

Simply saying "most people aren't gay so most porn isn't gay she found porn on his computer so that proves he is not gay makes no rational sense, though.

I expected the wording of the response, if not the tone. I didn't mean to sound "patronizing".

I figured that you would point out the obvious lack of information from the mother...

I guess I'm working on the, perhaps incorrect, perhaps biased assumption that if it had been gay porn that this 12 year old was viewing, that the mother would have more on her mind than a vacuum cleaner.

Perhaps that's not Politically Correct.

heh naw.... she might just have not even been fussed.....

:) I just think of things maybe differently from most people, like ; you can have all sorts of life situations, for all she know the mother is lavish with the cash to put on a good show externally but is abusive in some other way (ie sociologically) ..... or maybe her partner is a woman and she just doesn;t want to let on, so has claimed that the father has left ! :o

I'm wary of things which are just someone saying "oh hey listen up world, this all happened !!!!!" when is goes to media level and there's just their say-so, especially when it is in the bigmouth's best interest to do so (for reasons dudes have already gone over here, i think ? like, getting a better cash in for the xbox 360 etc)

haha, no worries about the patronising thing :D it's all gone, like flying fart-rocket space monkeys after an especialyl swift and satisfying raid on planet earth.

Heh, woman as a partner. I considered that. :P

As to the space monkeys: sounds painful. :o

And this is why the story doesn't make sense to me. If she didn't need the money, she would just take the machine away from the kid. Maybe make him pay it over time. I don't trust it, because she shouldn't be willing to go through the trouble of selling it unless she needs the money. And needing the money puts suspicion on her whole story.

:) well her line seems to be
"the cash from the x box is being used to pay for a new hoover which will teach my son about money" , ie rather than saying that she herself is that desperate for the cash then she's emphasising her 'adult responsible approach' in 'enforcing good views about money' in one of her offspring.
