Varitey is reporting that Warner Bros. is giving the green light to a live-action Thundercats film. Newbie screenwriter Paul Sopocy will be writing the Screenplay, which will be "focusing on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats."

I don't feel as excited for this property as I am with the Transformers coming on the big screen.  On some primal level, giant robots works much better on the big screen and is more exciting than just actors in makeup palying humanoid characters.  I'm starting to feel that within the next couple of years most of the cartoons we grew up watching are gonna wind up in the theaters as well.

P.S.  Warner Bros is also green lighting a live-action He-Man film, thanks to producer Joel Silver (The Matrix Trilogy)  I wasn't to excited when the first film came out in the 80's, and I feel the same now.

Speak your mind, OTers.

It'll suck even worse than that "Masters of the Universe" movie starring Dolph Lundgren.

Warners is remaking that as well.  So you'll have two choices of suck to choose from.

I dunno...could be good.  Who knows?  Funny, though, I just can't see the He-Man movie being good.

I don't know, how are they going to make a live action version of the Thundercats work?  I'd like to see footage of that before I get all excitied.  And I don't think there's a need for another He-Man movie.

The movie wont be out for awhile, I'd say earliest it might hit would be 2009.

That could possibly be the case.  But I'm not excited over this as I am with Transformers.  At least visually, I think 50 foot robots would work better that humans in makeup.  I got the feeling with Thundercats, they'll probably just get some decent makeup, Wire-Fu we've seen a million times before, find a mediocre flavor of the month director and call it a wrap.

It would be better to have Andrew Lloyd Webber bring them to Broadway as ThunderCATS! "Mumm-ra, all alone in the moonlight..."

You can find them on DVD.  The cartoon was okay, but didn't last too long, only on the air for two seasons.

The show was on 5 days a week. According to TV.com, each season was 65 episodes long.  Nowadays they don't show cartoons that air new episodes Mon-Fri anymore.  Now a season of a cartoon (Especially on Cartoon Network) is usually 12-13 episodes.
