I'm curious how you came to this conclusion. The box-office says otherwise.Theaters are already a near obsolete experience. Pirate700
I'm curious how you came to this conclusion. The box-office says otherwise. The box office numbers are screwed because the cost of tickets has risen so much over the past 10-15 years. Watching at home on a nice TV with a much better picture, a comfortable recliner or sofa and drinks that cost $.50 is a much better experience. The only reason the average consumer goes to the theater is because that's where movies come out first. If they came out at home (at least in a PPV form) first, theaters probably wouldn't survive more than a year or so.[QUOTE="Pirate700"]

I agree with the watching movies in your own home part. I hate the theater experience. When I went to see Iron Man 3 there was some dude eating Chedder flavoured chips and it made the whole theater stink of cheese. I was pissed.

Exactly, a theater ticket gets you a kid kicking your seat for two hours, a $7 soda and a $10 popcorn, some jackass talking on their phone next to you, and someone rustling their chip back for half the flick. The theater experience is absolute crap. If movies came out for home viewing at the same time, the theater industry would implode within a year. From the same duo that threw their weight behind Circuit City's self-destructing DIVX DVD system and then threw a collective hissy fit when it predictably failed by long delaying the debut of their films on DVD. Try again guys, the movie industry has been thriving for the last 10 years and great small films of quality continue to be made.

[QUOTE="maheo30"]I can still go to matinees for like $6 on weekends The expensive part is if you want to buy popcorn/etc Yep. Most expensive movie ticket around here is $10. Far from obsolete. Can't get that kind of experience at home, no matter how good your entertainment system is.It is too expensive now. :|

You should blame the leftists and Democrats in California for making it insanely expensive to produce films in the Mecca of filmmaking. If we keep going the way we're going, eventually watching good movies will be a privilege only enjoyed by the privileged political class of Obama-ites. Isn't he partying with Beonce and Jay-Z at some fundraiser tonight?

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]How can you not match that experience at home? The home experience is better in every single way. Depends on theater , home stuff Unless you require a mega screen, any decent 55"-60"+ home HDTV should provide a better visual experience. Same with any half way decent home sound system. Plus you don't have kids kicking your seat, food and drink is practically free in comparison (and BEER!), your prefered seating (whatever that may be) and nobody else with you that you don't want there, bothering you.[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"] Yep. I doubt that. George seems to have a pretty shitty understanding of economics. Which seems to be on par with his writing abilities...
Well to be fair, $150 to him would be like $.05 to an average person. lol
Pirate700
That just makes him a rich idiot. :P
I prefer...rich confused person. :P
Pirate700
He's a sell out and I hate his guts.
No, I'm not biased at all...
What's sad is that both Lucas and Spielberg are big supporters of Obama and the left, and now they're all confused about why it is that the costs of producing movies continue to rise astronomically while their profit margins are narrowing. These type of policies are why so many movies are now not only produced outside of California (the model for the future of the USA under the leadership of those like Obama), but outside of the USA.
he made two good movies, that was it.He's been an idiot for a long time, so I don't see why this statement is being given attention.

Maybe because he has an in-depth knowledge of the movie industry and has some authority to speak of the relevant economics (in a narrow sense)? He's been an idiot for a long time, so I don't see why this statement is being given attention.

IMO, he made four if we include the two good Indiana Jones films.
BTW, you preorder your PS4 yet, man?
Pirate700
Yes sir, I did. I have the Xbox One preordered as well, just in case MS backtracks on everything they've planned. If not I'll pay the PS4 off to three hundred and then use the credit for the Xbox One to finish it.

And were he not to say something so stupid, that could be relevant. All this does is reaffirm previous suspicions that he's an idiot.

for me i say only 3 indy films stand in my mind. raiders, last crusade and even though it isnt the best of the trilogy i did in fact enjoy temple of doom. 4 was watchable and pretty good but my only beef was ( not the aliens) but just how long it took to do a sequel to me it just didnt feel right after what 20 years?Depends on theater , home stuff Unless you require a mega screen, any decent 55"-60"+ home HDTV should provide a better visual experience. The theater near me has a no kids 6 or under policy. Also a no one under 18 policy if no parent/guardian for most movies. Good about enforcing a no talking , using phone thing. Food and drinks are reasonably priced(like $4 for a bottomless 32oz soda). Plus beer[QUOTE="dave123321"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]How can you not match that experience at home?
