[QUOTE="dave123321"] Depends on theater , home stuff dave123321

Unless you require a mega screen, any decent 55"-60"+ home HDTV should provide a better visual experience. Same with any half way decent home sound system. Plus you don't have kids kicking your seat, food and drink is practically free in comparison (and BEER!), your prefered seating (whatever that may be) and nobody else with you that you don't want there, bothering you.

The theater near me has a no kids 6 or under policy. Also a no one under 18 policy if no parent/guardian for most movies. Good about enforcing a no talking , using phone thing. Food and drinks are reasonably priced(like $4 for a bottomless 32oz soda). Plus beer

Sounds like quite the place. Props to them for sure. It still stands though that if movies were released in PPV form for the home at the same time that theaters would have a hard time lasting another year though.

I'm a little surprised it hasn't already happened. Either way you're paying to see it one time. The theater industy must really have their claws in the studios to be able to stay the first place for movie releases.

There's still so much unknown about the consoles, how could you pre order? I prefer to see what the inside of the PS4 looks like before. I want to make sure it doesn't melt. It looks way too small. BossPerson

There's enough to know that it'll be a decent gamebox, and the only one that won't suck. For a console person, it's the only option. I was going to grab one myself until that PS+ requirement.

Frankly I think that requirement is a good thing since they'll be upgrading PSN's infrastructure. Plus you get a ton of free stuff. Im still concerned about the size though. I'll probably wait a couple months to see if theres any reliability issues.

[QUOTE="tagyhag"]Lol ok George. Most People will stop going if it reaches $30.

people pay higher already when it comes to 3d wich i think is a scam anyways. i never saw a film in 3d and i refuse to simply because its only what a few scenes? now if the full film was 3d ok yea i get paying 15 bucks for a ticket but not for 10 scenes.

I dunno that they will be so inclined to give as much free stuff afterwards - before, they had to entice you. Now, they have some old school M$ douchebaggery up their sleeves, and I don't trust it; I'm not buying it. Insofar as reliability is concerned, Sony has usually been pretty solid, and it's not like it's a high-end, overclocked gaming rig.

Theaters are already a near obsolete experience. Pirate700

I'm curious how you came to this conclusion. The box-office says otherwise.

The box office numbers are screwed because the cost of tickets has risen so much over the past 10-15 years. Watching at home on a nice TV with a much better picture, a comfortable recliner or sofa and drinks that cost $.50 is a much better experience. The only reason the average consumer goes to the theater is because that's where movies come out first. If they came out at home (at least in a PPV form) first, theaters probably wouldn't survive more than a year or so.

That's silly. A lot of people enjoy the movie theatre experience.

Sony specifically said at the presser that they are giving free games every month. Plus now MS is doing it with XBL.

"Free games" can range from legit titles like you can pick up on PS+ now to things like arcade titles, which could p.easily happen.

And I'd rather just pick my own games to buy. I'll just stick with the PC.

I guess, but as people's home become better equipped with nice TVs, audio systems, while having a personal bathroom and fridge, it's getting harder for movie theatres to compete.

Movie theaters are okay.

Like, two or three times a year for movies that can't possibly suck and no snacks okay.

Right most people probably would if given the option at the same time. And I didn't say alone. I said without people you don't want.

Sitting with 50-100 people and sharing an experience with them is always going to be better (In my opinion) than sitting by myself regardless of the system on which I watch it.

I understand you completely, but I don't share that sentiment. I'm more of a homebody, I guess. And I like being able to pause the TV if the phone rings, grab some Doritos, etc.

How are you sharing the experience? Unless you're talking with them during/after the show, there's no sharing happening.

Just being able to pause the movie when you need to go to the bathroom is enough to make home viewing better.

No, there's some sharing going on in some circumstances. Especially when an audience is more animated and not a bunch of pacified and reserved wimps who are afraid to laugh at a joke.

Which is my point. If you like sharing the experience, you can do it with people you actually want to. The home viewing experience has everything the theater does but it's significantly cheaper, more convenient and can be much better quality.

He's not talking about sharing the experience with your girlfriend, he's talking about a large group of people, mostly strangers, enjoying a film together. There's something different, and arguably special, about that.  I understand him completely, it's just not my preference because I find the "sharing" very superficial.

Well if being in a crowded room full of people is something you enjoy, then right on. To me, movie theaters are to movie viewing what buses are to transportation. If that's your thing, then great.

Yep. Most expensive movie ticket around here is $10. Far from obsolete. Can't get that kind of experience at home, no matter how good your entertainment system is.

How can you not match that experience at home? The home experience is better in every single way.

I don't know man. I've seen Jurassic Park easily over 30 times and the one time I've watched it on the theaters I was completely engrossed.

Could that be because it was the 1st time you saw it and at the time, it was like nothing else released? Also, the home experience sucked back then because we were watching stuff on our 27" tube sets lol.

Exactly, a theater ticket gets you a kid kicking your seat for two hours, a $7 soda and a $10 popcorn, some jackass talking on their phone next to you, and someone rustling their chip back for half the flick. The theater experience is absolute crap. Pirate700
It wasn't always like that. People used to be much more respectful to other movie viewers. Nowadays everyone thinks they can do whatever the f*ck they want in a movie theatre. Watching a movie in a movie theatre, with people that know how to behave, is a vastly better experience than watching alone at home. The reason is that watching a movie is really a social experience. For example, there have been studies that show that you find a comedy flick more funny if you watch it with people around you. Unfortunately nowadays you get it all from dumb noisy kids to stupid people gaming on their smartphone, etc.

I'd rather see a film that was shot with the theater experience in mind. Some films just need to be seen on the big screen. It's just a completely different experience.

There's still so much unknown about the consoles, how could you pre order? I prefer to see what the inside of the PS4 looks like before. I want to make sure it doesn't melt. It looks way too small. BossPerson

What's unknown about them? We know the hardware specs. Both consoles have the same CPUs, the PS4 has a stronger graphics card and better RAM.

The Xbox 360 slims are smaller and mine hasn't melted, even though I constantly keep it on for very long periods of time.

Plus, when I preorder at GameStop I can put down a little bit each month and have them both paid off by the time they release. Much better than paying for it outright on my credit card.

Lucas is delusional but fvck the movie industry. It's not the consumers' fault that idiots make films with 200+ mil budgets that end up being terrible and expecting people to pay top dollar for what's essentially live action Saturday morning cartoons.

Also, the theatre experience is way, way, better than the home one. I'm not sure what kind of crackhouse theatres you people visit but where I live there's a few theatres that are damn near perfect in every way. Sucks for some, I guess.

That's fine. You're also married and have kids so your life is pretty much over anyway.

Psh. Kid. Singular. And my life is amazing. Except that I have to deal with smelly Canadians basically a puddle-jump away.

Only way your life could be amazing is if you smoke the weed from all those medicial marijuana dispensaries you Federalis raid.

[QUOTE="ZionismFTW"]

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]Which is my point. If you like sharing the experience, you can do it with people you actually want to. The home viewing experience has everything the theater does but it's significantly cheaper, more convenient and can be much better quality.

coolbeans90

He's not talking about sharing the experience with your girlfriend, he's talking about a large group of people, mostly strangers, enjoying a film together.

That is one of the saddest things I've ever heard.

How is that sad? Nobody said they don't go with friends/a date. I just enjoy a film more when I'm watching it with a large group of people who can also appreciate it.

Theaters are already a near obsolete experience. sammyjenkis898

I'm curious how you came to this conclusion. The box-office says otherwise.

Movie theater weekly attendance percentage has never been lower in America.
