Can anyone help me find a movie similar to the frightening awareness Schindler's List created?

For example, Hotel Rwanda serves as an example, but I'm looking for something more in the 90's.

Letters from Iwo Jima. Gave me the frightening awareness of how japanese soldiers would rather pull pins from grenades and blow themselves up for honour and what not when they could still fight. Great film, clint eastwood directed.

oh yeah i'd agree about the Pianist. Some of it really isn't nice tho, despite it not being gory/bloody. Like when they throw the guy in the wheelchair off the balcony :/
