Which movies, that you've seen, did you watch and say to yourself "Wtf happened here? This movie was so rock solid! What went wrong!?" I understand that directing a movie or writing a screenplay is complicated work, but every once in a while, a movie comes out that is basically a handout and the parties involved had no right to mess it up. Which movies do you think fall in this category? Here are a few to get us started:

Max Payne - All they had to do was have some great narration and senseless killing. I know the game had a great story, but I would have been content with some bullet-time induced mass killings. How they messed this one up is beyond me. I mean this movie was a free pass. In fact now that I think of it, they should just take Pay Back, change a few things and call it Max Payne. Payback has the gritty look, the great melodratic narration, and the hero who just wont be put down.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Come on...for the love of God. This movie should have been a quick 1 - 2 hit. Unlike the Xmen movies where they had to write a new plot, this was basically just recounting what happened in the comics. It should have been a simple copy paste job. It started off well enough with the scenes of all the great wars, then it just went south from there. They should have taken the "Watchmen" approach, were they copy-paste everything word for word. Dont even try to embellish, just copy everything, even the dialog. I mean look at Watchmen. It turned out pretty good because apart from a few changes, they stuck to the books perfectly.

Public Enemies. I guess I can't call it bad, but a movie that was SO well made had no excuse to be so...uninteresting.

1) I Am Legend- the ending was ridiculous.

"We can escape"

"NO I'M GONNA STAY HERE"

"But we can just go, look, the door is open and everything"

"NO I'M GONNA LOCK THE DOOR"

"But the zombies don't even care... you can just walk past them...."

"NO SAVE YOURSELVES *sacrifice*"

and the book had a better story anyway.

2) Same goes for any video game-movie adaption. The directors and writers already have a story to use. Why are you re-writing the video game story? Why are you trying to make it unique? Why make it "its own" when it's the video game story we lvoed in the first place? All they do is take something we like, and then destory everything we loved about it.

Any movie based on something should be really easy to do. Again, like you said, copy and paste everything, get some good actors/actresses, good effects and all should be well.

Game movies are debateable. A game like Resident Evil is harder to translate because the first one and second one really have fringe stories that sort of tell you what's going on, and then the rest of the game you spend 20 hours solving a puzzle and then you get a tiny story fragment. But games like God of War or Max Payne, yeah, it should be really easy.

Public Enemies. I guess I can't call it bad, but a movie that was SO well made had no excuse to be so...uninteresting.

Rockclmbr6
They should have just copy-pasted Dillinger (1973 version) with the the actors from Public Enemies. That would have been far more enjoyable considering Dillinger is actually a very good movie.

I agree, Wolverine would have been better had they stuck with the story in the comics. A little variation is fine but what they did in that movie was an abomination. Even though it would have meant an "R" rating (since it's very bloody and violent), it would've been 100x better.

What?
I remember it being that he put them in an old oven/ heater thingy, it wasnt a passage or anything, and he sacrificed himself because do you think they would just leave?
no, so he killed as many of them as he could with that grenade because he already found the remedy, so if he doesnt ensure that these two survive, it will never get to those who need it.
Yes, you left the movie with no more information then you had going in. The plot was utterly nonexistent.

In all fairness, Angels and Demons and The Davinci Code are both pretty bad books. Dan Brown is a one trick pony. After watching one of his movies, you can easily tell who is the bad guy in any of his books the moment he is introduced. Its terrible :?

I mean how the hell did the kid live. And they gave no explanation. He was just at the house at the end of the movie. No way he could have survived that explosion.

1) I Am Legend- the ending was ridiculous.

"We can escape"

"NO I'M GONNA STAY HERE"

"But we can just go, look, the door is open and everything"

"NO I'M GONNA LOCK THE DOOR"

"But the zombies don't even care... you can just walk past them...."

"NO SAVE YOURSELVES *sacrifice*"

and the book had a better story anyway.

It wouldve been easy...

Angry Zombies about to break glass ~~Pull the Pin~~

Glass Breaks ~~Throw Grenade~~

Threw Grenade ~~Shut the Door~~

Door is Shut~~BOOM~~

No more Zombies ~~Will Smith lives!!!~~

It was unecessary...he was a smart guy...he shouldve figured that one out.

Beat me to it.....and I thought Transformers 2 was bad. When I went into the theatre, there were about 15 people. Within 45 minutes, there were only 3 left, myself included. Most left at the psychic scene. I walked out at the hour mark. Borat was hilarious too, what happened? Harrison Ford was the highlight.

The Neverending Story. Earlier this year I made a huge long rant about why that movie sucks. I'm not gonna repeat everything I said there, but let me just repeat that this movie did indeed start out fairly ****ing cool. But then it cheats the audience just to get a happy ending, and it resorts to pretty much the lamest copout one could imagine.

Terminator Salvation. I almost don't even think this should be included, since it didn't really even start out good. But I have to include it for this reason: how the **** can you **** up a damn future war Terminator movie? It has all the recipes for success, lots of guns, lots of killer robots and people fighting killer robots. And they weren't even just generic killer robots either, they were ****ing TERMINATORS. How do you **** that up?

Sunshine. It was actually a pretty damn cool movie, right up until the point where Insane Invincible Serial Killer decides to **** everything up and turn the whole movie into a repeat of damn Event Horizon. Why did they need a ****ing crazy invincible murderer subplot at all?

Really? That was a great movie, besides that lame cotton candy dragon he rode on. The werewolf was pretty freaky, but I saw it as a kid so maybe all this is nostalgia.

Hollywood.

Sunshine. It was actually a pretty damn cool movie, right up until the point where Insane Invincible Serial Killer decides to **** everything up and turn the whole movie into a repeat of damn Event Horizon. Why did they need a ****ing crazy invincible murderer subplot at all?

MrGeezer

Is that the one where the guy goes on the shooting spree in the park? If so, that one scene makes the movie, I'm sorry.

I honestly don't know, because I don't see any "triple posts" in this thread. I mean, NONE. So I had to assume that you were talking to me, because I made three different replies.

You do know what a "triple post" is, don't you? That's when you post the same message three times. I don't see any triple posts here. So the alternative seems to be that we are not allowed to post in a thread more than twice.
any movie made by Mr. Bay.. I mean seriously with the budget he is given he should be winning oscars.. but instead he makes half @$$ed Summer blockbusters with terrible acting and storylines.. Come on really?Serraph105
maybe he just likes action movies and finds dramas boring

Michael Bay has perfected the art of making action films boring, by stretching 90 minutes premises out to 150 minutes.

You posted three consecutive times, hence triple post.
