Oh gosh there's lots because I love quite few cheesy cult films such as Star Crash and Death Race 2000. But one of my personally highest rated films in my library which wasn't critically well-received is Duck Soup courtesy of the Marx Bros.

Scary Movie 3 (the best scary movie IMO) and basically every comedy in existence. Sometimes I don't understand why some movies get the praise that they do...have you watched "The Kids Are Alright" ? Not funny at all, but somehow it won best comedy? Why?

Titan A.E. Yeah, it has a plot hole the size of Manhattan, but it's still cool. :evil:Theokhoth

I would agree with this along with the movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

I think what this topic is really about is the love of "garbage" films that predictably met with critical disapproval but that you found unavoidably enjoyable.

At least... that's how I'll interpret it. Two answers come immediately to mind:

  1. American remake of Godzilla from the '90s.
  2. Howard the Duck when it was first released, though when trying to watch it recently I found myself cringing.

Repo: The Genetic Opera Panned by critics, who didn't even really understand what they were watching. It's actually a true opera in both delivery and story. However, it was directed by the guy who directed Saw II, and had a setting similar to the later film Repo Men, so as such, critics were expecting something else.

Watchmen, Crank 2, Due Date, Tron: Legacy, Cloverfield, and many many others.

Someone didn't check Rotten Tomatoes. Watchmen and Cloverfield got a decent rating. I think Crank 2 did, too.

OT beat me to this thread. Anyway, I have no idea what you guys are basing this off. I have seen like 10-movies people listed and it got good-feedback by critics. Seriously, check Rotten Tomatoes. I'd have to go with:

The Uninvited-RT: 31% - Me: 6.9/10

The Butterfly Effect-RT: 33% - Me: 8.0/10

Those films come to mind.

I'm getting pretty annoyed right now. Scott Pilgrim VS The World got great reviews by the critics. (Check RT) Just because it isn't at the Oscars, don't mean it was a bad-film. I'm kinda surprised if it wasn't nominated for 'Best Special-Effect's' and/or 'Sound Mixing'.

The Thing, critics blasted it when it came out, now since it's a cult film, they have of course changed their tune. Hyprocites.

Bladerunner was pretty good... in fact I rather enjoyed it. It's such a chillout film.

JML897

It's also widely considered to be one of the best sci-fi films ever so it doesn't really fit in this thread.

I thought it was just a cult classic. I heard it recieved rather average reviews at the time.

I watched the road to el dorado when I was a kid (about 6 years old or something) and I loved the movie, and then I watched it a few more times over the years, I think the last time I watched the movie was 3 years ago and I still liked it.

recently I found out that the movie was not well received by critics and that it was a box office failure...I was so dissapointed :(

and plenty of other action films which seem cheap but were nonetheless good

lightleggy

I came in here to say that.

Also, and more importantly: what the hell is this s***?

I'm getting pretty annoyed right now. Scott Pilgrim VS The World got great reviews by the critics. (Check RT) Just because it isn't at the Oscars, don't mean it was a bad-film. I'm kinda surprised if it wasn't nominated for 'Best Special-Effect's' and/or 'Sound Mixing'.

I didn't realize it got great reviews, I was under the impression is met with mixed, but thats better I guess. Yeah I was surpries as well, I didn't expect it to get Best Picture (though personaly I would have) but I was shocked it didn't get Special effects, sounds, music, or even editing.

But as an actual film, it's definitely not for everyone. I hated/loved(I didn't know what to feel) the first-30 minutes or so. When the film was over, I wanted to go to the main-menu and push play. I haven't had that feeling since 'The Prestige'.
