It's an absolute disgraces that this happened. I thought we were past racial profiling but I guess not. Like the article said, they passed the screening by TSA so I absolutely have no idea why they weren't allowed to fly that day.
I hate stories like this. The actions of a few shouldn't define an entire group of people. I don't understand how people can think like this.
I would like to hear the pilots side of the story, as I would hope there is more that isn't being told in the article. But this is just me hoping.
Muslims aren't terrorists, terrorists are terrorists...ModeDude...who think they are muslims. And that is the problem, even after Osama's death they were saying how he had an Islamic burial 24 hours because Islamic blah blah is how it should be done. But wait, he's a terrorist, why should they have done that? It just confuses people.
Agreed. I demand my own private jet. With strippers. And a large quantity of alcohol. We should not trust anyone. Let us all fly solo.

This is so dumb.
A terrorist first priority would be not to draw attention to himself, dress in western clothes and be clean shaven.

This is what I was thinking too.
I think the pilot may have made a mistake, but considering this story that happened the very same day and with the recent killing of bin Laden as a back-drop, I can't say I blame him at all, nor do I think he should be reprimanded. Apparently, as the guy was pounding on the door he was screaming our favorite terrorist slogan, "Allahu Akbar."
If I walked onto a plane and saw guys that looked like this:
...in all honesty, I would be very edgy and put off from flying. I'm sure a lot of other people would be exactly the same.
I'm not saying what happened is right or wrong, I'm just throwing that out there.
That was terrible, and clearly doesn't belong in today's world. People not agreeing, how would you react if the situation was, e.g. A black man being denied access to a store, because the owner of the store was afraid that the black man would shoplift, or perhaps rob the store a gunpoint?
It's the excact same thing, and it's disgusting.
[QUOTE="daqua_99"]This is a clearly cut case of discrimination based on religion.HNNNGHIs that necessarily bad? If so, why?
Saying that every Muslim is a terrorist is like saying every Christian is a pedophile. It isn't true. They passed security in the airport, they were not deemed a security threat, so why be treated differently to everyone else?
Guilty by association comes to mind here ...
Thats what I was thinking (kinda). We have babies getting their diapers inspected, kids getting strip-searched and all sorts of horrible intrusions and inconveniences. So these guys were kicked off the plane. I can't say that I care all that much. They weren't imprisoned. They weren't beaten. They were inconvenienced...... just like everyone else. Our constitutional rights are deemed bendable by the government anyway so eh, why not?

I have no problem with the pilot making the final judgement call.[QUOTE="daqua_99"]

I have no problem with the pilot making the final judgement call.So you'd be okay with the pilot saying "I won't fly with any black people because they are all drunks and drunk people are dangerous"?
I'm not saying all natives are alcoholics, but at least that assumption is based on somestatistical knowledge (17% of Aborigines binge drink compared to 8% for the rest of the population, according to studies)

I've seen and heard of far too many injustices that haven't been justified to really care about 2 Muslims not being allowed on a plane. People who scream constitutional rights should be looking into the Patriot Act.[QUOTE="Mystic-G"]

I'll tell you what, when I start hearing reports that a pilot or pilots are kicking black people off of airplanes I'll get outraged. Our beloved government "hightens" all kinds of alerts after nabbing bin Laden and this guy can't follow his instinct? I'm inclined to disagree. Further, I see nothing by way of this being a pattern. With all the flights in this country I'm quite certain (although I can't say for a 'fact') that this pilot has made many, many flights with Muslims on board (some in "plain" clothes and some with full Islamic garb).ironic much?
"Al Amin Abdul Latif and his son, Abu Bakar, were heading on Friday to an annual conference on Islamophobia. "
do not fear people i am currently looking into ending this kind of thing forever.
look for my flying mosque at an airport near you soon.
[QUOTE="daqua_99"]This is a clearly cut case of discrimination based on religion.HNNNGHIs that necessarily bad? If so, why?Imagine a Christian was denied a job at a daycare facility because some priests are paedophiles. What do you think the public reaction would be?
It's the same situation here. There is absolutely no reason to say these 2 passengers had any ill intent, and they were denied their flight simple because of how they looked. There is nothing good or reasonable about that.

Being inconvenienced by missing a flight is not the same, nor does it rise to the level of denying someone's livelihood. When people complain about some of the nonsense the TSA is doing, we are told it's just an inconvenience. Same here.

What's a "hand search"?
an utter disgrace that seems to only prove that we are not better than THEY are. fortunately i'm sure the victims will have access to legal actions against the airline company.
I can see the headlines now "man exercises powers assigned to him, event is overly politicized and court hears case" "judge find pilot guilty of choice" "new law grants special rights to specific religion, all other religions pissed"an utter disgrace that seems to only prove that we are not better than THEY are. fortunately i'm sure the victims will have access to legal actions against the airline company.
