if you choose to rape someone it's your own fault. We make our own decisions in life.

well, let put it this way, if the girl is smart, and can defend herself, or pays attention to whats goin on, or is smart enough to not go down a dark wooded area without friends, thats partially her fault. most of friends (who are girls) refuse to walk home alone at night, ill drive them home cause they feel safer. even if nothing might happen, they expect it to and prepare for it, so u gotta be smarter than the rapist. so while its his fault the rape is happening, its also kinda a failing on her fault, intelligence wise, if she doesnt expect it or prepare to fend it off.

Somehow in my eighth grade health class we ended up getting of the subject of oral sex, I thought it meant you had sex everyday but I don't think that anymore.

I could understand if he was trying (in a weird way) to reduce the risk of you getting raped. However it is always the rapists fault for a rape, and never the victim

Hey me too! Then again he was also the gym teacher.

Coincidentally enough, one of our gym/health teachers was the rapist.

I think the TC got to actively observe someone telling rape fantasies out loud and to children, which in a way is perverse to the point of being amazing.

I highly disagree with this. What the hell kind of paranoid do you have to be to "expect" to get raped all day every day? And really, no, most women will not be able to defend themselves from a surprise attack (or even one that isn't a surprise) unless they have some sort of advantage. I have tested this theory multiple times (not being weird or anything, just wanted to test my strength against an average sized male) by getting my boyfriend to restrain me minimally (aka not putting his foot on my neck or anything) and seeing if I could get out of it. 9 times out of 10, I can't, even if i do end up kneeing him in the nads by accident. He isn't doing anything special, just holding down my hands. A rapist is going to do a lot more than just lightly restrain you. Some girls don't have friends around constantly to walk with them, or to drive them, or anything like that. So the buddy system is good in theory, but not always practical. like I said, you don't expect somebody to rape you 24/7, so unless you're some sort of rape obsessed freak, you won't be on your toes looking for rapists all day and night.

okay...on a unsecured college campus in a beach town, where 1 in 3 women get raped...its kinda to be expected...sry...so prepare for it, or just dont be stupid and walk alone at night. thats all im saying. and walking in dark wooded areas alone at night is extremely stupid and ur at more of a risk in a dark secluded and covered area. i know when i have to walk alone at night, i keep to the main routes and the lighted ones and if i can bring a bud i do, cause i dont wanna get mugged. its common sense.... bad s*** goes down at night cause more people are asleep and its harder to see...be smart...thats all i was sayin...and i dated a girl who was a brown belt in judo...try to hold her down and see what happens...i promise ull come away with a few broken bones...and i wasnt saying expect it all the time...but prepare for it, the scenario was walking alone at night, thru a dark wooded area...would u do that? no because ur more at risk there...hence preventing something that could happen...do u lock ur house door or ur car? do u expect them to be broken into...no but u prevent it incase the occassion occurs....i was just saying dont be f****** stupid and protect urself

Your teacher was an idiot. If a man is out to rape someone else. He will find a way to do it. Unless someone catches him first he will at least try to rape someone so the blame is entirely on him because he is the only reason a rape happened.

Well, If they dress provocatively and they're oblivious enough not to notice someone trying to Rape them. I would say they are at a certain percentage of fault. Maybe like...5 or 10%. The rapist will probably go after someone no matter what though.

I know. It sounds like you have to dress really provacatively to get a 100. Otherwise he'll give you a 30 and take most of the credit.

It doesn't matter what town it is. Beach town, big city, small city, community college. Doesn't matter in the least. Nobody should ever EXPECT to get raped. Preparation is great and all, but you're not all that likely to have much time to do anything (pepper spray, whistle, whatever) if caught by surprise. Learning a few disabling fight moves would be good too, but like I said, a 5'2 girl is pretty powerless against a 6', 170ish lb male. Just weight alone is enough to overpower a girl my size. Of COURSE it isn't smart to walk alone at night, or to walk alone in any area where you can't be seen or heard. But sometimes, it happens. Sure, if a girl decides that after her late-night class she should take the dark and secluded route because it's faster, alone, then she's being stupid, but she doesn't deserve to get raped for that silly decision. Nor does she deserve to get mauled by a bear or fall and shatter her leg because it's dark, or whatever else may happen. But as I said before, sometimes taking the dark and secluded route or simply walking alone isn't by choice. Once all your friends have left, you're kinda stuck being alone. I agree people should be smart and make good choices, but there's no sense in saying a girl who's not in a good situation is stupid because of it, because sometimes the stupid way is the only way. Great for the girl you dated to be a brown belt, but not all of us are. She may be able to break your neck, but I can't. Protecting yourself isn't as simple as learning some martial arts moves and carrying pepper spray. The element of surprise gets people every time, no matter how smart they are. Even if a person takes precautions, nothing is foolproof.

When I was in 9th grade, attending McCullough Jr. High in the Woodlands, TX.. I had a very interesting health teacher. His name was Mr. Garrison (no joke), and he was a fat, bearded, middle-aged man with square glasses. Thick southern accent, very creepy character. This was about 10-11 years ago, and I can't find the guy online for the life of me.

The main story is this-- He taught a unit dealing with rape. During this unit, he would often sit at his desk, crossing his feet up on the desk, and come up with "rape scenarios."

For example- A young woman leaves school, walking by herself on the path through the woods behind the school.. she's very scantily-clad and paying no attention to her surroundings. A pervert jumps out of the woods and rapes her. Whose fault is that?

Mr. Garrison would then ask us to assign a "percentage of fault" for the rape to the victim and the rapist. Of course most of the class would be horrified at the story and say that it was 100% the rapist's fault.. but Mr. Garrison didn't agree. He would say things like: "I'd say it's about 70/30, mostly the fault of the rapist.. but the girl is at fault."

He would often go through 5 or 6 scenarios like this, usually assigning most of the "fault" to the rapist, but sometimes saying that it was "mostly the victim's fault."

What would you do if you were in a classroom and your teacher started dispensing this lesson to your class?

Word. WORD!!! The act is completely the fault of the rapist. I typed up something in the same vein and stopped myself just before I hit Submit. I don't need any more point losses.

Rape is usually about power and dominance more so than just sex...

FleeceJohnson

This.

Then why do we always hear about hot scanitily clad college coeds getting raped and not nasty looking old ladies?

Rape is about sex too.

"How dare that slut dress like such a cheap whore, flirting with every guy she sees, she needs to remember where she is be put in her place, that little disgusting..."

Not to get into the mindset of some of these people too much but these are the type of thoughts around some known cases, with common statements among police reports being "she was asking for it" and other such horrible statements.

I agree with the teacher. Unless the rapist has a gun or knife pointed at the girl, the girl could pretty easily fight back and bite him or something. And if she has keys, those make a great weapon

I don't think you can attribute fault to the victim in rape cases. The criminal act itself is the doing of the rapist completely, the only one to blame is him/her (even though I think English law makes it impossible for a female to rape, legislators are crap), regardless of how scantily-clad his victim was.

I'd be glad that someone got it! The blame isn't always just on one person. Being stupid makes you a better target.

well, it's a hindsight issue, you sometimes don't realize how messed up your teachers were until years later, and even if you did parents often think kids overreact when complaining about their teachers, and faculty usually have each others back like the catholic church has the back of child molesting priests... these days you have to shame people publicly on the news with a headline like "teacher teaches that rape victims ask for it"

I know that sounds kind of bizarre but I get where he's going. An attractive female walking around by herself in the middle of nowhere is just asking for trouble. A sociopath is going to be a sociopath no matter what, but women can take proper precautions for prevent themselves from being victims 95% of the time.

Man...i made this account just to respond to this thread...I also had this teacher for 9th or 10th grade health class at McCullough (class of '07)...I was telling my friend a story about how creepy this guy was and he searched his name in google to find a pic of him and this thread popped up...I just think it's so funny someone took the time to document his creepiness on this message board when i was JUST telling someone about how freaking creepy he really was...good stuff Ted.
