If it wasn't for Creep, Radiohead would mean nothing to me.

Why not actually give Ok Computer or Kid A a listen? Rather than base your opinion on one overrated single...

Who said I'm basing it off one song? I have their greatest hits album, and to me most of it is pure garbage. Creep is the only song I like off of their supposed "greatest hits".

To me greatest hits albums suck in general (unless it collects singles from an artist in the 40s-50s which predated the album era). Listening to greatest hits albums are like jumping to random chapters in a book.

They still give you an overview of the music/writing. And are worth listening to before purchasing albums. And one can get an idea from listening/reading if they want to further delve into the band/book.;)

Greatest hits albums are a horrible representation of a band's overall talent. They jam all of the singles (often the simplest and most boring songs) into one disc. It gives a basic overview of the songs they write for radio play.

So bands don't know what they are doing when they select their songs for greatest hits albums? And yes, most of the time the band is involved.

Radiohead wasn't involved in their greatest hits. It was their former record company (as it is most of the time) cashing in on the songs they still own.

In this case, they weren't. Radiohead wasn't consulted by EMI on their greatest hits album at all.

Which isn't what I said. I was replying to your statement vis a vis greatest hits albums. Though glancing at what's on Radiohead's.....seems to be songs that are frequently mentioned in here as favorites so it's not like they didn't pick the songs fans like. And I'm going to say that once Radiohead was established....they picked the songs to release for air play....which is where hits come from anyway.

the jonas brothers also play instruments...and they also sing....that doesnt make them good... singing IS a musical talent, not anyone can sing, I've never listened to kesha, but assuming she (or he, I havent even heard about that person) is a hip hop performer, then yeah, she can sing. and therefore, musically talented. now seriously...radiohead...dude they are like the worst band after the JB

You said most bands were consulted. Raidohead wasn't. Radiohead albums, as previously mentioned, have a flow to them. Jamming two singles next to each other in any which order you wish destroys that. And bands write simpler songs for radio play. Look at U2, for example. Over the past several albums, they've had one horribly generic song for radio play while the rest of the album is significantly better.

Most does not equal all dude.

That still gives you an overview of music Radiohead made. Listen to a song or two from an album...and guess what? You have heard the styIe employed on that album. Though they aren't as diverse as fans like to think.

As for your U2 comment.....really has nothing to do with anything.

I never said that most is synonymous with all. Fact of the matter is, you attempted to make little of my point because you're ignorant in the subject you speak of. Furthermore, if you listen to only Karma Police, you've got a piss poor representation to the sound of OK Computer. The same goes for the Cure with Disintegration if all you listen to is the terrible Love Song.

As for my U2 comment, it furthers backs up my point that songs are written for radio play, which you've denied and is relevant.

Dark_Knight6

Really? It was more like you made light of my post because you answered with Radiohead had no imput. Which I hadn't said. Your comment was a general comment and thus, I responded in kind. Make a point....get it refuted....make an ad hominem.

You still get an overview of the bands styIe. And Lovesong fits Disintegration by the way. The entire album flows.

Are you saying Karma Police doesn't fit the mood of the OK Computer? Because then your earlier comment about flow cannot be correct.

No U2 may only have a song or two for radio play....but they fit U2's direction on those albums as well.

Lovesong and Karma Police fit the flow of their respective albums just fine. Fact of the matter is, they're both garbage and leave nothing but a bad impression about their albums. And Vertigo didn't fit How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb at all. It was generic rock with no substance. The rest of the album was quite the opposite.

Except I'm not ignorant of music. Not fact. But it's easier to insult in than stay on point. Especially when you have contradicted yourself in the space of a few posts.

Lovesong is a great song by the way. It's not garbage. I won't argue Karma Police with you since I have yet to be excited about any Radiohead song. Your opinion =/= fact.

As for U2...I thought their last few albums were ALL generic. The albums were uninteresting and the hits were not up to par with what the band is capable off. But then I'm going by their entire discography and not one album.

Radiohead can be best compared to an ice berg. What you initially see is the horrible Pablo Honey with its dreadful "Creep". But if you actually give it a second glance and listen to Hail to the Thief, Amnesiac, OK Computer, or really anything after Pablo Honey, you'll find one of the best bands of the last few decades.

no, they really are.

they're very experimental,

and they make music completely different with every album.

if some people would actually give them a chance, they might not dislike them.

if you don't like experimental music,

give Pablo Honey or The Bends a shot.

those are their only "mainstream" cds.

I would consider Maudlin of the Well or uneXpect as experimental music. Radiohead is just alternative rock.

no, radiohead is definitely experimental. listen to hail to the theif.

Slightly, I suppose.

Except I'm not ignorant of music. So again.....an ad hominem and not based in fact. But it's easier to through an insult in than stay on point. Especially when you have contradicted yourself in the space of a few points.

I never said you were ignorant of music. You were ignorant of Radiohead's greatest hits in that they had absolutely nothing to do with it. Lovesong is absolute garbage like almost everything from the Cure. And I've not once said my opinion is fact.

And as for U2, I made an example of one album. But comparing anything they've made in the past few years to Acthung Baby is a set-up for disappointment.

[QUOTE="dreDREb13"]Radiohead hate is STAGGERING! Honestly, what the hell? This isn't even about liking, it's about having more talent... Radiohead wins? Kesha uses auto-tune and is another generic pop artist. Radiohead uses a slew of different instruments and sounds and has lyrics that are deeper than a puddle...no_more_fayth

a lot of teenagers on this board.

i'm a teenager.

don't lump me in with kids who have knowledge or taste in music.

same..

Oh, don't get all self-righteous. I enjoy Miley Cyrus. I shall now commit suicide.

If you want to. I don't recommend it though.
