It's called Halloween and where and when I grew up, it was basically a giant excuse for some incredibly fun vandalism. Hell, we were even pretty well organized. One year ever pumpkin within like a ten mile radius was stolen and taken to the basketball court at the local elementary school and smashed.

Aye. One of my parents didn't graduate, the other did but barely and was a low-ranked position in the military for over a decade. They didn't eat meat for 2 years because it was too expensive to buy that and feed my brother and I. They worked hard to be smart with their money, and worked at saving as much as possible and working themselves to the bone to improve our lives. Now, my dad's about as high a rank as someone with his education can be, and my mom's running the accounting for a large provincial health service and it's all been through the fruits of their efforts. They taught me how to work hard by getting me a job and responsibility early in my life, and that school was important. To hear about kids just vandalizing for petty, selfish reasons equivalent to a hissy-fit for their parents not getting them a treat...just makes me feel ill.

It's a little hard to discuss this when you're comparing trick-or-treating to armed robbery. Particularly when the OP made no mention of threatening, or in any way pushing the guy until after the "**** you". In any case, I wasn't saying it was justified, I was only saying that it's hard to feel sorry for one jerk just because he managed to run into a bigger jerk.
