I'm really starting to get annoyed with my ISP, they're limiting my broadband speeds from 8Mbs to under 500Kbs during peak times.

I have been with Orange now for about 3 years and never had a problem until a few months ago and while I pay a lot more than any of the deals they offer now. They happen to think my bandwidth usage will impair other users experience, when I'm using it for browsing, gaming and downloading a game every few weeks through steam. I'm not running a server from my house?

I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat, limited, and doomed to have stupidly high pings from 6 till 12?

File a complaint or seek another provider! Such poor treatment is simply unacceptable.

Mine were too, I even saw a night when they hit 40meg (I don't know how), then they cast me back into the dark ages :(

Yeah that's quite bad, but other things can factor in.

This should test what you have:

Yes, yes it is.

I tried to file a complaint and got nothing back, so I think it's time to move on.

They've put it up since they last told me what I'm meant to be getting, but I get around 8mb during off peak time.

Well if your bill/plan lists 8Mb down your DL speeds will be 1/8th of that. So you would max out at 1MB. Minus line quality and traffic and a 500-600 DL speed wouldnt be entirely out of the question weven without being throttled.

Unless im totally understanding you wrong and you have actually been downloading at 8Mb/sec which would mean you are paying for roughly a 64Mb connection.

I know what you mean but that's not the case. I am been throttled, I get good dl speeds off peak that fit about 8Mbs and I've got a really good line so I get next to no quality loss. They even sent me several letters explaining that I was getting limited because my peak monthly bandwidth usage was about 7 to 8 GB, which seen I'm paying more than most 20-40Mbs packages with unlimited bandwidth (I do understand that doesn't mean what it says, but come on 8GB) is a real bum deal.

Do you mean megabits or megabytes because they are totally different when comparing network speeds and as you have it written its in bits and not bytes and something in the 500-800 kilobytes and not bits seems about right considering network traffic and peak usage. They can only handle so many on their end before things start to degrade and slow down which means busy traffic

That sucks.

If I ever get bad D/L speeds I usually run them through an accelerator, like DAP.

But my speeds are usually around 1 Mb/s for d/l's.

Definitely get off that plan. Having a cap that low on a connection that fast almost makes it worthless. I go through that much bandwidth twice a week if not more and my plan isnt that much higher than yours.

What? 8GB a week download limit? That's pathetic man, you gotta switch.

Well I had satellite so I had pings of 800+ and a 375 MB daily limit. Now I have wireless with pings of 250 and unlimited bandwidth. It's better but cable and dsl is superior.

Yeah you guys are right, why I'm gonna change. I can't believe they'd do it in the first place.

Orange? so your in the UK? If you can get Virgin Media Fibre Optic, I recommend it... I'm on the 20mb unlimited package. And because it's fibre optic there is no usage cap. Its awesome.

Yeah I think if I can I'd go with them or Sky, those packages look really good. I think I might have a problem getting fiber optic where I live though, it's the middle of nowhere.
