Ok my parents keep invading my privacy. I understand the internet isn't private, but I don't like them looking through the stuff I look through. (And I know they do, because sometimes they will be like Kyle, get off such and such website and do your hw). Or like, right now, my dad is browsing a website that I visited (not a common one either) earlier. I'm sick of it and I want to know
a way to prevent it.

I delete all my history (actually, this computer doesn't even save history), I run CCleaner everytime I go away from the computer. I would think that would be good enough. But I know he's looking it up through the router, and I don't know the router password. So I need to know a way I can visit sites and such without the data being sent through the router.

Or my computer might have a tracker on it that tells him everything I type. I've looked before, but I can't
find a program that does it, or looks suspicious.

So if you have any ideas of how I could prevent their invasion, I would appreciate your help. My parents aren't technologically dumb like most, so whatever I do has to be pretty complex to keep them out.

And he'll see this topic soon. -_-

Do you to know how to reformat a hard drive? I don't know how to safely, but they would be SOL if you kept deleting your temporary files, clearing your history, and reformatting your HDD every couple weeks.

Since your dad appears to be smart with computers, I really don't think there's anything you can do.

Just confront him and tell him to stop having such a "Big Brother" outlook to your Internet viewing.

If that doesn't work you can always get into his account and change his password until you come to some kind of agreement. :p

Until you move out of your parents' house, you have no privacy when it comes to this. They can browse through what you look at whenever they want. Now, this really shouldn't be a problem, unless of course, you're looking at naughty material. . .

I delete temporary files, history, cookies, EVERYTHING POSSIBLE that I can. But he still finds it because that's on my computer. All he has to do is log into the router, because the internet comes from there, and see what all sites the internet has been used for, the time and everything. And he checks it within hours/days of when I visit the sites, so reformating my hard drive does nothing.

^ Weirdo? Eh. It's his house, his internet, but honestly, my parents are too over-protective for their own good. They think they have to watch over me ever single second, and they do, and that's what pisses me off. They do it behind my back and frustrate me.

Sometimes my dad will even turn my internet off when he sees that I'm not working. -_-  Honestly, just how far are they going to go? Sheesh.

So still no real help... ok.

You could also try being blatantly obvious viewing some kind of hardcore fetish site and maybe you can scare him out of spying on you.

if you are like 20 and this is happening... then that is kind of weird, but if you are only like 16, then its just your parents making sure you aren't messing around with stuff you shouldn't. are you doing anything you shouldnt be - if not, then dont worry too much about it.

Bingo. They should know that you're old enough to be responsible in real life and on the internet considering your age. Just have a chat.. but think about what you're going to say beforehand.. comebacks and such.

Be thankful your parents are a little overprotective and not absolutely careless. At least they do it behind your back, where the embarrasment is minimal. But if you're losing work by spending too much time on the 'net, then it's a very good thing your dad knows how to turn it off. This is all coming from a 17 year old, man.

I can be thankful that they aren't careless, but even though they do it behind my back, they confront me about websites they see and stuff, so technically there still is "embarrasment" so to speak.

Losing work though? Never. I might be on the internet and getting less sleep because of my time on the computer but I'm second in my class. It isn't like I'm not getting quality work done, because I am. I've always worked this way, and they just now try and change it. That's the problem. It's consistency.

Sucks for you! My parents put up a bunch of "filters", so they don't ever check anything...what they don't know is that I know how to disable them

Ah, I see. Are you going onto sites that would give them significant reason to confront you? Be honest. And if you're truly not losing any work over the Internet (like me :P) then that's something you might want to discuss with your parents.

Significant reason? No. Some reason? Yeah. Doesn't help that they are overly christian and would think a lot of things I do online are bad. :/ Oh well.

And they don't really "confront me". They are just tell me to get off *insert website name here* (from another room, which is how I know they are checking it) and do your work. Because I know things they could bring up and have a discussion about, but they don't. Thankfully.

It's made me more concious about where I go. Maybe that's the point.

Piracy? Eh. Most teens my age have their whole mp3 players filled with pirated music. I don't download
anything pirated off the internet because I don't want to risk being caught. That doesn't mean that I
haven't watched pirated movies for free online though, because that isn't directly on my computer.
So take it for what you will.

 Thanks for your help.

If your Dad is actually going to read this thread then id like to say to him, stop spying on your son and let him live his life. Everyone deserves some privacy, if you want to live in such a way I suggest you move to Iran.

Ha, yeah, I'm a Christian too, and I think I'd do the same if I had a kid (God forbid!:o)

About doing your work, like I said before, you can do 1 of 2 things:

1. Do extra work and satisfy your parents new standards, or

2. Talk to your parents in a civil mannner. Tell them why you believe you should do this and that, give them good reasons (I've been very responsible, etc.), things like that. But be prepared to accept that your parents have the last say in it, and they may still say "no".

It is always good to be concious about where you go, so that is a good thing, even if that's not the point.

My iPod doesn't have pirated music. . . . >_> . . .stop looking at me!!!

REVOLT. Take away from they what they took away from you. Don't stop bugging them, but first talk to them.
