44% of americans believe that the earth is 6-20 thousand years old.

WTF?

why is it that in this greatest country on God's Green earth, 44% of americans take the authority as truth rather than truth as the authority?

why is it that the public education system cant convince people of the FACT of evolution?

Come on people!!! why is it so hard to believe in theistic evolution?

why is it that when you meet people who are young earth creationists, they dont accept scientific evidence? why is it that they want to just discuss theology? again, they take authority as truth rather than truth as authority

my solution

reform public school funding so that we dont have brainwashed kids refusing to accept good science.

It's when you said evolution was a fact. It's not, and shouldn't be taught in schools.

It isn't 100% fact. It is theory. But it should be taught in schools. That's part of what Science is. It has every right to be in schools, and is one of the most supported and backed scientific theories to our creation. It has more physical evidence than practically every other theory. It has proven itself valid.

the theory of relativity isn't fact. the theory of gravity isn't fact. the theory of electricity isn't fact as no one has ever directly seen an electron. Atoms are a theory as no one has ever seen a nucleus. should we not teach those?

I understand your exasperation mig_killer but I think that many people regaurd theistic evolution as just another step towards becoming a godless atheist. If you don't accept the bible as the absolute truth (which theistic evolution requires) then you might as well be rejecting the whole faith.Evolution in any form destabilises the authority of the church which can destabilise some peoples whole way of life, so it's understandible that they don't want to see what is right in front of them.

Not completely, but evidence shows evolution as a possibility-and a great one at that. Go look up the evidence. You'll see what I'm talking about. None of it has anything to do with bashing religion if you skip past Youtube and College essays posted online. Just go look up the evidence. There's plenty there that shows evolution as a large possibility.

And for all of you out there who wonder why atheists have a problem with christians, This is the reason why.

Who the **** are you to tell people that they can't pursue scientific knowledge simply because what they discover contradicts your ridiculous fairy stories written thousands of years ago by ignorant, superstitious desert people that had no clue about the workings of the natural world?

Fundamentalists like these want to put a stop to all progresion of our knowledge and, quite frankly, are a detriment to the entire species.

Evolution is pretty much fact. A quick online search can reveal all sorts of fossil records. How we evolved (or why) is what people have the problem with.

oh yeah, well if you ask a really conservative preacher, they'll tell you that evolution is a fairy tale.

do you really think that the preacher has less credibility than you zoologist? (aka devil-logist)

Well, considering a zoologist went to college and studies in that area, then yes, a zoologist has way more credibility. It would be like me going to a doctor who told me I have a disease and me replying, "Oh, like you would know. I think I'll ignore your diagnosis".

I don't think the burder is on me to prove they are not, it is on you to prove they are. I can't refute something that there is no evidence for.

Well, since the preacher is going off of a thousands-year-old myth, while the zoologist is going off of years of meticulous study and research as well as experimental and physical evidence, all of which is verifiable, then I say yes, the preacher is much less credible.

[QUOTE="GettingTired"]I'm pretty sure if you asked any Zoologist, they would say Evolution is pretty much a fact.mig_killer2

oh yeah, well if you ask a really conservative preacher, they'll tell you that evolution is a fairy tale.

do you really think that the preacher has less credibility than you zoologist? (aka devil-logist)

Well, considering a zoologist went to college and studies in that area, then yes, a zoologist has way more credibility. It would be like me going to a doctor who told me I have a disease and me replying, "Oh, like you would know. I think I'll ignore your diagnosis".

prove that your doctor and zoologist aren't pawns of satan

I don't think the burder is on me to prove they are not, it is on you to prove they are. I can't refute something that there is no evidence for.

the bible says that the earth is 6000 years old.

there

your zoologists are pawns of satan

Why am I arguing this? This is just silly.

Prove that the Bible is accurate? You can't use the argument "God does not lie". Because, let's say there is a God and he doesn't lie. That doesn't mean that humans can't lie, just like the humans who wrote the Bible. The Bible is not evidence.

Creationism should be taught in a "how not to structure a hypothesis" lecture. To keep evolution out, however, is inanity.

Theories are just explanations of facts. For example: The earth revolves around the sun. That's a fact. Our theory for why and how this is, is gravity. Humans evolved: that's a fact. Our theory for how this happened is natural selection. Natural Selection is an incredibly strong theory, that's getting stronger and stronger, and it's now come to the point where you can call natural selection a fact itself. Creationism is just fairy-tale garbage and I find the fact that some people call it "Creation-Science" appauling because Creationism couldn't be further from science.

44% of americans believe that the earth is 6-20 thousand years old. mig_killer2
I don't believe that statistic.
why is it that in this greatest country on God's Green earth, 44% of americans take the authority as truth rather than truth as the authority?mig_killer2
Saying America is the greatest country on a website with quite a few user in the U.K. isn't making yourself seem like you know what you're talking about.
reform public school funding so that we dont have brainwashed kids refusing to accept good science. mig_killer2
You do realise they teach Evolution is public school, and they don't teach Creationism of any sort?

I don't think it should be taught at all in the science classroom. There's nothing scientific about it

Why do you care? Everyone has their own beliefs, leave them alone.

Personally, I'm Agnostic but really...

To want to narrow the entire world down to one belief would be just simply ridiculous. There is no way to know for sure so just let people be free to believe as they wish. Whatever makes them happy as long as they cause no harm to others.

I like Sparrow's idea for how it should be taught... even though it steps all over people's belief system.

I don't know that much about Young Earth Creationism but the basic beliefs. But judging from what I know, I agree with you.
