So i'm going to berkeley college here in new york city. It's a private 4 year business school. It doesn't have much of a reputation and i'll be honest it's not the best, i guess it's average. You can choose day classes or night classes and i chose mostly night classes, i have trouble waking up at 8am to take the subway to school. With night classes the students are alot older ages 30 to 60 sometimes. I'm the youngest in there at 20. The girls in the class....well i wouldn't say girls but ladies in the class..are mostly over weight/obese african american and hispanic. I'm pretty much the only asian american in there. There are hardly whites maybe 1. Everytime i goto class i get pissed, i don't know why...maybe just the mood and environment of being in that class. I left an hour early last week and last last week i again left early. The ladies in the class say lame jokes, i have noone to talk to, i have no friends in the class. We have nothing in common. There's a lady in there that likes telling racial jokes that are annoying. One day i'm going to cuss her out or something i don't know. But you get the point. So i have the class tomorow at 6pm. Has anyone ever been through a situation like this? thanks for reading by the way.

Every class, every group of people, is going to have a possible one or few people that you won't necessarily get along with. You're not there to socialize, you're there to get an education. I'd suggest just ignoring them and make the best of it.

Berkeley College is in the middle of midtown. There likely is no campus or a very small one.

OP this is a horrible way to go through college. The only excuse for taking night classes like this is if you have to work a day job to support yourself. It doesn't sound like this is the case. I'd transfer somewhere with a campus there are plenty of colleges like this in New York. If you have to stay in the city at least transfer to Hunter/Baruch/Queens or something and take some day classes where you'll actually meet people your own age.

For the people saying OP needs to learn -

He hates his learning environment. College is meant to be enjoyed with peers not busto pathetic 40-something losers.

they have me by the neck. CUNY john jay has my major, i want to transfer there but they're going to take away 20 credits. I paid for those credits and put time/energy into those credits.

In the end we all waste the credits at the arcade.

i had a Public Speaking class first semester of this year that had a handful of 50 year old men/women, couple of chicks my age, and some gay guys. The 50 yr olds kept to themselves but were loud and clearly judgmental. The chicks would all cry for every assignment because they always ended up choosing some topic that had to do with their recently deceased mother or something (why?). And the gay guys just made me feel uncomfortable. I dropped the class after 3 weeks

That's pretty much one semester and a summer course. IIRC the current tuition for CUNY schools is around 2500$ a semester add a class in the summer for another 600$? So basically you're spending $3100 and an extra semester in exchange for actually having a social life and not hating all your classes because they are filled with pathetic failures.

Completely worth it.

Well, if you're so concerned with the people in your class, maybe you should opt for some earlier classes. Either that or just suck it up. You go to college to get an education and to earn a degree. Surely you can argue that socialization is important as well, but it's impossible to find a class full of people you like. You just have to suck it up sometimes.

You're 20 ****ing years old. Has it ever ocurred to you that maybe you should simply act like an adult?

Are you going to college to make friends, or are you there to learn and stuff?

Are you seriously considering cussing someone out and trhen walking out on the course just because a few people in the class annoyed you? Well, welcome to the real world. I'm asuming that you're there because you hope to get a degree, and I'm assuming that you job for that degree to help you to get a good JOB. If you can't even react with your fellow students without losing your ****, then how do you expect things to go when you have to deal with these people in a workplace setting?

Bottom line, here's my advice...you're an adult, so act like it.

Don't listen to the people saying that you should just calm down/ignore your situation. If your learning environment really sucks, you need to change it. You're supposed to enjoy college, plus you're not going to learn as well if you're distracted/unsatisfied.

If it really bothers you, get out of the class. Doesn't sound like you're too interested in the class, if the people surrounding you are bothering you. If you're there to learn, then you mine as well learn, be the quiet bookworm. If not, get the hell out.

[QUOTE="Dante2710"]No, i go to college to learn, i could care less if people are overweight, black, white, pink or purple. As long as they dont interfere with my learning, im not bothered one bit. LegitGamer3212

yeah i'm sure....drop by any one of my night classes just for 1 day. I understand it's to learn but about about the college life? and....the college experience or whatever

The college experience is a lie. I started college with no expectation of having a social life, In fact i barely have time for that. My advice suck it up hit a bar every once in while and reap the rewards of your education later when you have sucess.

You are horrible at time management or socially awkward. If you don't have a ton of free time (by free time I mean time not spent in class or studying) you're doing it wrong. I had semesters where I took 8-9 courses and still went out 4 nights a week at least.

well when class start filling up and half your class are night classes and the other half are during the day. I have a few close friends and girlfirend thats all i need plus i don't have the kind of money to go out and do stuff and did i mention its a community college.

Community colleges are generally 2 years and people transfer to 4 year universities. From the CCs I've seen most don't have dorms or have a very small amount of dorms. The classes are also filled with weirdos so this changes your situation dramatically. OP isn't attending a community college so I have no idea why you gave him that horrible advice.

they won't directly harm you. But you have to look at them, they're amongst you cause there in your class. Everywhere you look is another one

Next semester change to morning classes as they hopefully have people closer to your age group.
