I'm more of an alternative fan, A Perfect Circle etc.  The vocals are by far the most offputting, I could sing in one of those crap bands just by screaming. I don't care about the lyrics either, the music has to be good and I see no great music in metal, it's rare.

Thats pretty silly ... because vocals and lyrics have a major impact on people. Can make the difference between sounding good, or sounding awful.

They make an impact, though. They can as easily turn someone off a band as the guitar or drums would.

I did look at loads that people have posted on other threads and found no interest. I'm just not a fan of people jamming guitars too hard and slamming drums. There is the odd song I like that I come across, Rammstein have a few good songs and they are pretty good to get into, I'd say Rammstein have more talent than most metal bands I have come across.

I'm glad to see people haven't resorted to the typical metal generalizations...

Anyway, back on topic.

  • Opeth- Watershed
  • Soilent Green- Inevitable Collapse In the Presence of Conviction
  • Amon Amarth- Twilight of the Thunder God
  • Testament- The Formation of Damnation
  • The Haunted- Versus

In my opinion, these are some of the top albums this year.

[QUOTE="Darth-Caedus"][QUOTE="Jango-Bawls"] You think vocals and lyrics are'nt important?CBR600-RR
Nope, not when compared to the actual music, which the vast majority of metal haters seem to ignore

I'm more of an alternative fan, A Perfect Circle etc. The vocals are by far the most offputting, I could sing in one of those crap bands just by screaming. I don't care about the lyrics either, the music has to be good and I see no great music in metal, it's rare.

Well...

Damn. I know most people on OT love death metal, but all of these lists seem to be confined to that genre. Are there really that many incredible death metal albums released each year that they eclipse all other noteworthy releases in other genres?

Look at my list? I'm one of those metalheads who hate death metal :P So I'm not sure if I would still be considered a metalhead...
