Again, insults and foul language are not necessary to present your opinion. If you want your argument to be considered an intelligent, civilzed statement, then make it in such a manner.

mariomaster16

"I have no response, so I'll ignore it by making a faux plea for intelligence while still stating the exact same thing in the future." Nobody who contends that homosexuality is a choice has any place in demanding intelligence from anybody.

So much for respect of others' opinions.

"Homosexuality isn't a choice" isn't an opinion. It's a statement of reality; a wrong one, to be exact, and one based on ignorance and a complete lack of empathy. It deserves no more respect than racism, sexism or the belief that the Earth is flat, and I will not respect it.

Seriously, that's all it takes: empathy. The ability to put oneself in others' shoes. One doesn't even need to be intelligent to have it.

Not all opinions are worthy of respect.

What sort of opinion would be worthy of respect, in your opinion?

One that makes sense for starters.

I would post my opinion in this thread, but I feel Theo is already covering the topic pretty well.

Just because you have an "opinion" doesn't make it right, especially when proof isn't on your side.

Notice how mariomaster refuses to even acknowledge the civil posts directed towards him, preferring to play the "Quit being mean to my opinions" card instead.

First, there is the fact that the brain structures of heterosexual and homosexual people of the same gender are fundamentally different.

Second, there are the twin studies that show that identical twins (who thus share the same DNA) are highly more likely to both be homosexual if one is homosexual than fraternal twins and adopted siblings.

All of the evidence, in fact, points towards a) there being a genetic predisposition to homosexuality; and b) homosexuality being a product of very, very early brain development, far before a human would have any concept of sexual attraction.

Well, the important thing wasn't your proof, it was how Theo was dealing with mario.....

To be honest, I want him to present his opinion, so we can debate and try to come to an understanding. But alas, I doubt that will ever happen

My initial complaint was not with a slur towards me but towards someone else who posted a little while ago and was insulted for it. All I ask is that people be a little more respectful when making their arguments. To be honest, I don't really care about the whole homosexuality thing, I don't have much of an opinion either way. It doesn't affect me in the slightest, so I don't really care. I was presenting a thought for the sake of discussion, not voicing my opinion.

It occured to me just before I posted this, that I quoted the wrong post, I meant to quote the guy who tried to make fun of me, but I'm too lazy to copy and paste it onto a new message, so whatevs.

And therein lies your problem. It's lack of empathy. I'm not black, but if slavery was reinstated then I would care tremendously. I'm not a woman, but if women were no longer allowed to vote then I would protest in the streets.

In any of those situations, I might pick a side, but it's also fun to stand outside the fight and see what happens. Activism is too much effort for something I don't really care about, but I do enjoy debating from different sides. I once argued from a Christian and an Athiest standpoint in one class period just because no one else was chiming in.

I hope that's true because California voted Porp8, which was so much wrong on so many levels.

I'm not positive on this, but I don't think Prop 8 was necessarily popular opinion. It's just that most of the people who cared enough about the issue to vote happened to be against it.

Edit: Meant "happened to be *for* it" - against gay marriage

Yeah, you don't need a majority to get it on the ballot. I don't know the actual number but its a lot less than that. Otherwise there would be reason to have it on the ballot.

I'm still shocked women don't have equal pay rights. The gay marriage thing needs to also be passed and done with. There are so many basic liberties out there that are unavailable that it makes our government and country look like hypocrites for preaching liberty and denying it at the same time. and legalize cannabis too for crying out loud

Ah, this old moldly argument.

You do realize this is what is commonly referred to as a slipperly slope fallacy, right?http://www.fallacyfiles.org/slipslop.html

It's also arguably a non-sequitir.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non_sequitur_(logic)

No, but sometimes an opposing view needs to be presented. If only one side is ever considered, we would never be able to see the whole picture. Hearing other opinions, hopefully, makes us question our own beliefs. Until you've questioned your beliefs you can't really know what you believe. Even God said "Test me and see." It's important to hear other ways of thinking and to understand them, to undertand your own way of thinking.

It's reassuring to know that people are finally realizing that allowing same-sex marriage won't bring about a Russian invasion or a super volcano. It's just a shame that it's taken this long.
