Was that the single most lame and pathetic slam dunk contest in my lifetime? (I'm 30 years old.) I'm voting yes. I don't think I've ever been more bored and disappointed by an NBA all-star event. I think I need to create a brand new picture caption to capture the depth of my disappointment and disillusionment with that "contest". I put up with all those idiotic "Texas is awesome!" style TNT commercials to watch THAT? I've seen more cojones on my high school cheerleading squad than those contestants just showed with their playing it safe routine.

Am I the only person who thinks this? Anyone else out there observe this "contest"? What are your thoughts?

I don't like dunking. I think it's one of the silliest things about basketball. A layup is much prettier.

Ok now I know why my thread was locked lol

Yeah that was complete BS, I have done better dunks on 8 foot goals. I mean come on there was no creativity at all, even Nate wasnt that great :(

I'd have purged my own thread, but I beat you to the punch by something like a minute or so. :) Hope you don't mind. Figured there was no need for the duplicate. We can jointly express our displeasure here. (chest bump?)

Two things! :) 1. I disagree with G_C. A beautiful dunk by an athletic player is a thing of beauty. Not saying that a layup is not! Just don't discount the dunks just because they are the frontal-assault fist-to-face version of scoring in basketball. ;) 2. I agree with nocoolnamejim that this years' slam dunk contest was a direct insult to fans of in-game dunks. I have shoes to re-lace, hair to wash, and bathrooms to clean. There are countless ways I could have spent this evening that would have been far less boring than watching the slam dunk contest tonight.

Dont waste your time, it was so bad that Charles and his crew were talking about going to put on their shorts to dunk! I mean it was generic "free throw" line dunks and reverses.

Die-hard hoops fan here*! The only part of All-Star weekend I truly enjoy is the game, but that's boring until the 4th quarter. I'd rather watch the Knicks play the Nets. *like a guy snatching a rebound is exciting to me.

Well that's disappointing. Maybe ill just watch a "highlights" video of it.

Kind of wish that Arenas was in these events. I've never really liked him that much, but I have to admit he has a bit of showman/entertainer in him. He'd have made some of these events today at least watchable. I'm a die-hard NBA fan myself, and I swear to Zeus that I'd have been better of spending that last hour of my life on my third run through Dragon Age.

Alas, my neighbor, you are making a very faith based assumption that there is enough there to warrant a highlights video. I think your daily "Sportscenter" broadcast features better dunks and more entertainment.

Agree, this dunk contest was garbage, and the best dunk that night was the ally-oop from Sonny Weems to Demar Derozan. Somehow, I'm getting the feeling that one of the reasons why everyone felt that the dunk contest was so bad was because of Shannon Brown falling flat from all the hype he's been given. Charles Barkley said it the best, nobody deserved to win this dunk contest. Maybe Derozan, but he had a garbage second round.

Brown was a huge disappointment. I'm a Laker fan and I've seen the hops that he has. He can do some crazy dunks with his vertical. His lack of stones in this event was like a kick to the crotch in response to my inviting a cheerleader to a high school dance. It hurt on SO MANY levels.

Nate had no difficulties with it last year... So to summarize: This year's slam dunk contest was a huge disappointment. Not a single participant showed creativity or guts, and not a single one of them deserved to win. Which is why I'm not bothering watching to see who wins. I have videogames. I have books. I have movies. I have friggin' toilets to clean. So to summarize, I have better things to do than watch the slam dunk contest this year. But I've already said that, haven't I? :P

Awful, I mean I wasn't expecting a full-blown theatrical theatre or whatever you want to call it that we saw last year, but damn i've watched this thing for the past 10 years or so and it was amazingly weak

It was pretty bad. I'm a bifglaker fan and, Shannon Brown really let me down. It's gotta be worse this year then the time Jason Richardson won.

It was horrible. James White (Spurs), Bill Walker (Celtics), and Terrence Williams (Nets) all would've done way better than anyone that was in it tonight.

I'd love to see some street ballers or D-Leaguers get a shot against some NBA players too. They had Air Up There in the Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown on Friday and his 360 between the legs dunk was better than any dunk in the contest tonight. A lot of street ballers could beat these NBA dunkers... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHrqLPQ0-A0

All of the contestants did really poorly. If Lebron James was in the competition, things would have been different!

He wimped out. (No offense to Lebron fans out there, but it is true.) After saying during last year's slam dunk contest that he'd be in this year's, he backed out of that promise a few weeks ago.

DeRozan was robbed of the title. there is no way nate should have gotten 51% of the fan votes. imo, nate only won because the fans wanted to see a 3-time champion in the dunk contest for the first time ever. Nates stupid 360 of the pass sucked so bad. He definitely should have made it to the finals because gwall and shannon were terrible, but his stupid dunks for the finals were the worst. with those dumb cheerleaders doing nothing, he brought them out to do absolutely nothing for his dunks. There is no way any dunk was better than the windmill of the side of the backboard by DeRozan! stupid fan voting, they should let the judges choose the winner. I bet the outcome would have been different

I've witnessed maybe 7-8 all-star weekends (I'm 20) and this was by far the worst one I've ever seen by far. The 3 pt contest had more action than the dunk contest. The Dunk contest was really atrocious. I'm happy Nate won it since he was the only person doing anything different, but this event overall was extremely boring. Also was it just more or was there a comemrcial like eevry 3-5 minutes?

Seems like someone has a grudge against a small man.... Derozan did ONE good dunk and he did it during the first round which ruined his chances because during the 2nd round he did TERRIBLE dunks which shouldn't be seen in a dunk contest. Nate Robinson did slightly above average in all of his dunks or he atleast attempted to. DeRozan seriously didn't deserve anything. If he had did an average dunk to win the first round and came back during the 2nd round with the off the side of the back board dunk I would've voted for him easily, but since his dunking priority is messed up he does;t deserve to win.
