So I am thinking of getting a tattoo and I need some advice.

I want something that pertains to running, or obviously something meaningful to me. For running, I COULD go wit the Hermes winged feet theme, but that's very generic.

What I was thinking, is getting a number 1 on my left hip. Now, no one (except tat one special girl) would see it because it would be covered up. Her's the story behind it. During races, they make us put on these numbered stickers on our left hip indicating what our seed time was (the guy predicted to be in first would have the num. 1 sticker. and so one). So I was thinking of getting a tattoo of that sticker on my left hip (because I have indeed earned a num. 1 tat. I have broken a school record while wearing that number 1 sticker on my shorts and become one of the best runners in my school).

As for meaningful, I was thinking of getting a series ofimportant dates across my Achilles tendon. Some examples of these dates would be 8/15/91 (my b-day), 2/3/09 (first time I made States), and 6/6/09 (when we broke the school record). I could customize the text of the date bymaking the ones relating to running in a digital font (like on a watch) and have other dates in another font. It would be across my Achilles because I've had a bad history with my Achilles and it would be symbolic of an obstacle that I've had to overcome to succeed (like covering something that has tried to hold me back with my success). I like this idea because each date would yield a story (and I would continutally add on dates through life).

I was also thinking of getting a meaningful quote or something very special to me on my back (between my shoulder blades or across my upper back), like "Running is My Religion" or a quote that is special to me.

What do you guys think? Any feedback, advice, orsuggesstionsare appreciated (anything really).

I'll put it this way - I wanted my tattoos for 2 years, and waited for another 2 years to be sure, until I got them. If you're not sure of the tatt you want, don't get it, because you WILL wake up and hate it one day.

Those are cool ideas, but I would wait a year until you decide to get them. Also, just stick a 1 on your leg would kind of be weird. Maybe putting a lightning bolt behind it or something would be cool.

Be careful though. You won't be able to donate blood once you have a tattoo.

Yes, hence the reason for me posting that

When you ask other people for ideas it means you should not get one

"Oh please perfect strangers tell me what I should get bonded to my skin that has such strong meaning that I will find out once that stranger explains it to me"

If you need to ask then no, ask/no

Draw it on your skin with sharpie every day for 2 years, and look at it at least half an hour every day. If you still want it, do it.

The only ink you should ever get is of something that comes into mind and that you NEVER have to think about or doubt. You dont just get ink to have it. You get it for a reason.

The best advice I can think of for someone wanting to get a tattoo is: "You don't want a tattoo."

Now some clarification. Tattoos are permanent. There is means of removing them but they are costly and painful. You must think very long and very hard about getting one before you even go shopping around for artists. Just think about it before jumping in... because I'd bet most people who get tattoos regret them very soon after. Especially if they are unsure about getting it in the first place.

My first tattoo was impulsive a year ago. It was a symbol of who I was at that time. Tattoos tell a story of who you were, are, and will become. If you think TOO hard about getting a tattoo, you may miss out on something.

But I've heard that 90% of those who've had permanent tattoos regret it.

All the people saying that you will one day wake up and regret it are completely wrong. If you get something that means something to you than you probably won't regret it.

And most of those people saying it probably haven't gotten a tattoo.

I think those are cool ideas! You should make the important dates go around your leg, just above your ankle.
