If you have played and enjoyed Mass Effect I highly suggest reading Mass Effect: Revelation and Ascension. Otherwise, I will revert to my obligatory House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski recommendation.

Well, if you like manga, I guess you could buy something like DBZ or naruto or whatever interests you. However, if you really want a book, you should read the left behind series by Tim Lahayne

Theokhoth gave away most of the books that immediately came to mind.But- -'The raw shark texts'. It's so weird and captivating. It's probably one of the weirdest books i've ever read... -'The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy' saga.-Must read. -'Catch 22''. a Must -must read.

Instead of my usual suggestion of the Night Angel Trilogy I will recommend the books I ordered off of Amazon yesterday. Dead Space Martyr, Metro 2033 and The Gunslinger.

I always feel useless when these topics come up because I don't read a lot of fiction.

He didn't specify fiction.Non-fictions can be good captivating books.

Frattracide
I recommended some non-fiction because he said he doesn't care about genre.

The two best novels I've read in the past twelve months have to be Anathem and Stone's Fall. Anathem was a great sci-fi book, but virtually devoid of cliches. Might be the best sci-fi novel I have ever read (note: I don't really dig the fantasy/sci-fi stuff). Stone's Fall was a mystery novel starting in WWI era London, but also goes back to turn of the century Paris and then to 1860s Italy. Really good.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon and Under the Dome by Stephen King.

Swan Song is my favorite horror novel ever, and Under the Dome is the best Stephen King book I've read since The Stand.

Yeah, but most people like fiction for its entertainment value. My small library is mostly for reference and topics that really wouldn't be of much intrest to most people.

Although the TC might like the following:

Finding Darwin's god- its about religion and science

Highest traditions- its about a UH-1 door gunner in Vietnam.
