It does suck indeed. Maybe they will use the extra cash to nab decent movies for streaming. Ghost_702I doubt it. Would be nice though.

They're using the extra money to pay the contract to use Sony movies. Sony raised their prices on Netflix, therefore they raise their prices on us.

At the end of the day, that is what it boils down to. Even after this next increase in price, it's still not a bad deal, but as I said before I barely have a chance to watch movies these days, so for me it's just flushing $$$ down the tubes so I scaled back my subscription.[QUOTE="spazzx625"]Have you driven by the Kent house they are building for Superman? That would have to be in Metropolis. I haven't. While I actually grew up in Metropolis, and still have family there, I haven't been back down there in around three years now. I'm about 6-7 hours drive north of there now (or around 2 hours if you drive like my dad).
Wait....it just dawned on me you're talking about the upcoming Superman movie right? In that case they're filming in Plano, quite a bit closer to me. In that case the answer is...still no. No, I haven't.

Haha, yeah...That's the one I'm talking about though I have been to Metropolis in passing.whats wrong with the ps3 interface?

I actually prefer the PS3 Netflix. Plus Netflix offers closed captioning on the PS3 (well, with the instant movies that actually include closed captioning), but not on the 360. Or at least this was the case a couple months ago.
[QUOTE="spazzx625"]If you can't afford an extra $5-10 to rent as many movies as you want...You probably don't need Netflix in the first place.thegergExcellent point. I have a feeling that most of those complaining here are just kids with no real problems. Woe-is-them.
Don't start assuming because you're bitter about your own problems.
People get used to a certain service along with a certain price. It's pretty normal for people to get pissed when they double the rate for the same service.
They actually have closed captions on the 360. It's been there for a while now. For those that are complaining about not getting more for the increased price, it does happen in a lot of other industries. You can complain that the price goes up, but it's necessary to keep said service going. Otherwise, you would not have the service at all.I actually prefer the PS3 Netflix. Yes, gradual price increases are not only accepted, but expected. A 60% increase at once, however, is not sudden and would rub customers of any product the wrong way. More over Netflix has given no indication whatsoever that this has anything to do with increased costs on their end. If they had it would be easier for their customers to swallow. A little honesty goes a long way.

Like I said, I haven't tried it in a couple months. :P
Sorry to get a little off topic, but how do you turn them on?

True true, some information from them would be great at explaining the big jump. But would it really have made a difference if the price gradually got to this point over the course of the years versus just doing one price increase right now? People would still be complaining either way, i'm sure.If you look on the Netflix tool bar while watching a movie, there should be an option to turn them on and off.Sorry to get a little off topic, but how do you turn them on?

I don't seem to have this option, or I'm just missing what is right in front of me (which happens quite often). I played Doctor Who on my PS3 and I had the option for subtitles. I played Doctor Who on my PC, and I had the option for subtitles. Same on the Wii. Doctor Who on my Xbox 360, no subtitle option that I see. I tried it with several other movies that have subtitles on my other devices with Netlix support, but nothing. I'm probably missing something.
You don't have to respond to this, though. I think I've gone off topic enough (again, sorry about that).

I've never had netflix but so I may not be getting something here, but 17.98 isn't very expensive. It really doesn't seem that bad.
CammiTac
Yeah, it isn't really that expensive. But it seems pretty bad when you used to pay $9 for the same thing.
True, but at least with more money, it should equal better/newer movies and shows on streaming and disc.[QUOTE="worlock77"]

Darthkaiser
Metropolis, Illinois. It's a real city of around 10,000 located in Massac County, along the Ohio River (about 400 miles south of Chicago). It was incorporated long before the comic was ever created. Since the mid-1970s however the town has had a deal with DC Comics that allows the city to use Superman to promote the town (given that it's the only official incorporated community in the United States actually named Metropolis. This includes things such as the Superman Celebration (basically just a town fair), a Superman Musuem (although this is a private business) and even a big Superman statue:
i don't have netflix, but my friends do and we use it a good bit. they have streaming only and netflix has a lot of stuff so i think $7.99/month is a great deal for just streaming.
Cant rent dvds if your dvd player is broken.
So I am just fine with streaming only. So the price doesnt bother me.
[QUOTE="Rattlesnake_8"]Time to cancel netflix.. its a shame and ive been putting it off cause i liked being able to watch the IT Crowd, Top Gear, Red Dwarf etc.. guess i'll just buy the DVD's.arad96
Wait, won't that cost more than keeping netflix?
It wouldn't in the long run. If you buy the seasons on dvds and watch them again and again for two years, it is probably cheaper than paying for Netflix just to watch those same shows for those two years.
The only problem with Netflix is the content isn't being added like it used to be. Shows that were streaming for quite some time, like Weeds, are no longer available. Fairly recently Strangers with Candy got taken down.
