pffft thats nothing i was in history and this girl asked if there was fire in the 3rd century
Stuff like this has happened before... it's shocking .
Lt. Mark speaks for most of us at the end of the article
"I can't believe not one person felt compelled to help her."
The wierd thing is that judging by these scenerios some of us on this board could end up being a part of this bystandard effect - sure we imagine we'd try to stop whats going on but clearly mob psychology has more control on us that we realize.

thats kiddy stuff, a girl in my class said that when you take viagra, you will remain erected for 15 days...Stuff like this just never ceases to amaze me, and in a very very bad way.
And it was going on for upward of 2 hours and more and more people came to watch and participate? Seriously, did they think it was a game? I'm interested to hear what these people have to say for themselves
[QUOTE="Agent-Zero"]How do 20 people gang rape one girl? In the middle of the street?GrandJuryI don't know...I just don't know. I mean I don't think 20 people could form a circle around a girl and be close enough to rape her...
You'd be surprised how anybody here would act under similar circumstances. Yes it's great to be righteous and think 'we would behave like 'x', however conformity and fear of intervention are extremely powerful drivers and you and I (most people) would react in the same way. I'd assume many of those bystanders were good people at heart.
It is her fault. You're gonna say wondering around with booze possibly intoxicated during the night isn't(A) fault, it's not a stupid thing to do? There areall sorts of felonious **** out during the night & they stalk loners or easy prey. Females should never be wondering around secluded areas ESPECIALLY during low or NO daylight.
What she did wasn't too smart and her actions are to blame for what happened BUT her mistakes don't void anything. Her mistakes didn't warrant what was done to her, the perpetrators are still criminal and she was victimized.
There is no "it was her fault" and that's the end of it. EVERYONE was at fault. Her only crimes were possesion of alcohol and possible intoxication which aren't a big deal, minor offenses. BUT the others... well... they're now felonious. Even if they never convict several of them they will still carry a NON-CONVICTEDfelon record which really doesn't make life any easier than convicted.

I think I know what was at fault - the penis Too many many men think with their winkie's rather than there head, only to get into trouble for it.
(can I say that?)
"If you are in a crowd and you look and see that everyone is doing nothing, then doing nothing becomes the norm."
Yeah....that is pretty stupid. If I was in a crowd of people not drinking beer, I'd bust out with a 12pk of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and start chugging them all one by one. *mumbles*nothing becomes the norm. pfft.

It is true that if I (and many others I assume) see something like that going on, I could be thinking that she is consent to it, judging by her lack of response and no one else is doing anything to stop it... afterall I don't think I would be able to stop the act and clarify with her whether she is enjoying it or it was force upon her.
Still, even if no one else is seemingly doing anything to stop the act, the least they can do is to call the cops, last time I check having group sex out in the open is against the law. If they are indeed having a good ol 4 on 1 action they can do it somewhere else.
You do have a point and, realistically, we would need to be there to judge the situation. I would like to think that I would have the brains to see something was wrong, the wits to call the police and the courage to step in and stop it.You'd be surprised how anybody here would act under similar circumstances. I actually just learned about this in my Psychology class. We looked at a lot of things relating to social psychology. Another example of this was The Stanford Prison Experiment. As was stated earlier, we'd like to thing we'd do the right thing, but social forces are something nobody can understand until he or she experiences it.
