It doesn't really matter because our species will go extinct within one hundred years. Which fate would you rather suffer, being vaporized in an instant or suffering from malnourishment, disease, dehydration, and unending war for a few decades.

Iffy350

Humans are innovative, so we will survive.

We MIGHT survive but that is highly unlikely given the current status of the worlds ecosystems and the rate of environmental degradation. The extinction of wildlife on earth will threaten us with extinction soon enough. The oceans are becoming increasingly acidic and killing off the oceans creatures. If 70% of the earths surface is toxic and we manage to somehow survive without resorting to soylent green then good for the humans.

listen son, ecological damage sucks...it really does.

It's not really a threat to human existence however, lesser creatures have survived worse.

This is going on in the US as well, but it hardly got any coverage in the media.

was it a girl?

The_Lipscomb
Probably.

Then its not surprising.People in asian countries like India and China view girls as a burden on the parents. That area of the world has a largely skewed sex ratio and very high rates of female infanticide.I have even read that in India they used to drown new born baby girls in milk.

what are you talking about? this stuff happens everywhere...

You must not be aware of China's One Childe policy and it's effects.

Yeah and other creatures haven't. I find amusing how much FAITH people put in technology. It's almost religious. If we destroy the Earth ecosystem then some might survive but possibly not the majority and not without a sort of nasty events in between.

Not really. It's an effect of Chinese culture. Do a little research or talk to anyone from China.

Did I ever say this kind of thing never happens anywhere else? No, of course it does. However, it's a widespread problem in China. The U.S. governnment does not have a One Child policy. Do you know what that is or what it forces families to do? Family members snitch on family members and neighbors snitch on neighbors. Babies are killed due to being female or just not lawfully allowed.

I went to a school that has one of the nations highest foreign Chinese student populations. They all said things similar to the above. If you're a male in Chinese culture you get everything and are usually actually wanted. Females are not which leads to a high number of infanticides. My girlfriend was born in China and was the third girl. Take a wild guess at what almost happened to her.

It's interesting how this thread turned into a China-bashing thread.

This could very well have been an accident. That's what the authorities over there are calling it. The police won't even press charges. She was the one that raised the alarm and called for help. Have you guys noticed the toilet photo? It's a hole in the ground, it's not impossible for this to have been an accident. When babies are born they're quite slippery, a young inexperienced woman might drop him.

Of course, it's also possible she threw the baby in the toilet on purpose and immediatelly realized the huge mistake and called the police herself and called it an accident.

I wonder if the child found in a sewer will be told about his ordeal when he grows up and the way he will feel about the knowledge. If it were me, I would want to know who did it.
