I've also liked The Batman and Spectacular Spiderman, I know Spiderman got canned after Disney bought Marvel (the bastards), and I'm not totally sure what happened to The Batman, but it doesn't show anywhere that I know of.

I could not agree more...

I used to think it was nostalgia, but it aint... after I started watching Boomerang and NickToons, I realized how much better the cartoons of my youth are than the crap out now...

There are some good newer cartoons. Chowder is absolutely fantastic, and Johnny Test is pretty awesome as well. While it is SLIGHTLY older, Fairly Oddparents was/is an absolutely FANTASTIC cartoon that is right up there with the other 90's Nicktoons IMO.

I do think the observation of modern cartoons not being as good is a fair assessment and for one big reason, the 90's cartoons went ALOT farther than current cartoons. There was alot more adult humour thrown in back in the day and I think it is that humour that really takes the cartoons to a whole other level. You can throughly enjoy them whether you are a kid or an adult and that was fantastic.

Oh and BTW Invader Zim was FANTASTIC! Just watched a bit of that last night. The episode where Gir becomes the brain of the house and gets obsessed with going to get tacos is honestly one of the best cartoon episodes EVER!!!

Never did like that thing's voice, but I was concentrating more on the fact he said "only".

[QUOTE="funsohng"] the new animes do suck. :?funsohng

Some do and some don't, besides I was laughing at the fact that he said DBZ was a great (action) anime.

most suck and the ones that are actually good don't get much attention really.

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I laughed when the TC talked about DBZ. :p

Attention Deficit Disorder

The network found that it was both cheaper and more profitable to have no story (or minimal story) insanity than to actually spend time to develop something worthwhile. Of course, they also decided that impossible story arcs compensated for the lack of "thought process" spent on a new "unique" episode.

I do have to say, one of the things I absolutely abhor is when writers make the "bad guy" too powerful to be beaten. So in the final fight they either have to give the "good guy" superpowers or turn the "bad guy" into a klutz

Which is made even worse when they defeat the "bad klutz" as a "team" (individually our attacks did nothing, but now us attacking separately the same as before but "together" he is helpless).

ITT: My generation is better than your generation! Keep in mind people who grew up solely with Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, The Smurfs, The Jetsons, etc said the same thing about the cartoons you most likely grew up with. Some of the new cartoons aren't half bad, just take off the damn nostalgia goggles. Besides, technically speaking childrens cartoons are kind meant to be watched by, you guessed it, children.

Spongebob took a huge nosedive after the movie, so no.

Cartoons have gone somewhat downhill, but alto of it is nostalgia. There probably was crap in every cartoon decade, it's just easier to point out the good stuff nowadays. I do agree there were more dark, adult cartoons in the 90's though, like Batman:TSA and Gargoyles.

And from I've seen, the same stills holds true for current cartoons nowadays. But the fact of the matter is, they're created and marketed with children in mind.

Current cartoons really do not go nearly as far as they used to with the more "adult" humour. Stuff like Rocko's Modern Life had way more mature jokes than any current show I have seen.

I really think the networks got too uptight with that stuff unfortunately.

Why people are watching cartoons aimed at kids, with a few exceptions is beyond me.

The thing is that you all suffer from nostalgia, believing everything in your childhood was quality, but to the 60 year old, the old mickey mouse was quality and stuff like courage the cowardly dog is just downright lame, and now you are going through the same fase, and in the next decade these kids will baww how the future cartoons are horrible compared to what we have today. It's an evil circle. Face it, the shows we watch as kids are downright bull, but we grow attached to them just like kids today will be attached to naruto and Phineas and ferb.

You dont have their mindsets, stop watching those shows, they were never intented for you in the first place.

Sandvichman
90's animated movie Batman: Phantasm: Bruce totally slept with the hot chick - and that movie was for kids. There are some facts to the nostalgia.

Exactly.

This is why watching Rocko as an adult is like a whole new experience. They got away with SO MUCH in that show I am honestly astounded it got played during the day and was marketed towards children...

Avatar isn't stupid at all, the writing and plot are beautifully developed. I love how it deals with dark themes yet still having a light atmosphere.

What happened to the classics like Rocko, Hey Arnold, Ed Edd n Eddy and Johnny Bravo? These new ones are so bad I can't even finish a episode. Even the new anime sucks. The ones like DBZ, Trigun and Cowboy Bebop were great action animes. The new animes like Bleach and Naruto are pathetic.

6_volts

i 'd

Agree. There are quite a few new anime that are better than DBZ which is overrated.

I havent even remember the cartoon Rocko FOREVER! I agree that Rocko and Hey Arnold are good cartoons probably mainly due to nostalgia which I will be unable to admit, not so much Ed Edd n Eddy and Johny Bravo though. I think the best cartoons are the ones like Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry and such.
