Hey, here I am with another drawing (or sketch) of mine. Please feel free to rate it, and comment on it, I would like to hear what you guys think of it. Thanks!! :D

For those who don't know, this is Ken from the Street Fighter series.

Also, If you guys have any tips on how to color this on Photoshop, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

ken

Here's a link to the picture if you can't see it: ImageShack

EDIT: I changed the pic's contrast, before it had too much adjusted contrast and brightness and it took away many details.

Much better than your last one. Looks like it took longer but it was worth it. Still not my style, but good.

It's good. Though I cant help but think that the head looks too small, or maybe the hands are too big.

That back arm doing the looks off. Almost like it's not even connected to his shoulder.

Other than that, it's fine.

Thanks for pointing that out, I just noticed it.

I kinda found the fingers on his left hand to look odd, the tumb looks fine but the others looks kinda like they are attached to the glove itself, might want to add a line between the finger gaps and apply shadow to make then look more like they are sticking out from a glove.

Other then that it looks good

I'd say that you need a little more shading and definition around ken's chest/shirt and fist. A lot of it just runs together. Have you considered inking it?

Inking it? You mean in PS, or hand-drawn?

Pretty good, I would think using a large brush with an opacity of about 60-80% would work if you wanted to colour it in PS.

The face looks like another character from somewhere else. And the thumbs up is cliche. Overall 72 out of a possible 100.

Also, colouring is usually an ardulous task.

My advice? Do it classic-style and underpaint. Do a monochrome/sepiatone underpainting and then just slap on the colour you want on top. It's a lot easier than selecting individual shades, and so long as you've taken an art class in high-school, you should know the basics of underpainting.

Take a look at this person's drawing. It's the same thing, but looks better than yours.

Just because he's using a reference to practice drawing doesn't mean he's plagairizing. If he were, he'd post the original and credit it to himself. Let him progress the way he chooses.

Using art as a reference and copying it are two completely seperate things.

He could have used that as reference, then made something on his own. Using artwork as reference =/= copying everything down to the very expression and angle of the character's face.

Wouch.

I mean, I'm all for reference drawing. It's how I learned proportion, perspective, and drawing basic human anatmy without making a fool of myself in the process, but usually I'd mix things up like take a 3/4 pose drawing and make it a full frontal pose, or I'd change a lot of the clothing/hair/facial features/etc. to both learn what I needed to and practice as I was going.

This is highly discouraging.

My point is, that he seems like he doesn't have a ton of experience under his belt to just freehand his own version. And if he is, then i apologize. But everyone has to start somewhere. Just like everyone goes through a tracing phase in elementary school, this is another logical step to learning how to create your own art.

Yeah, I based it off that picture. I did not copy it directly, I simply did it by my own. I am a great fan of NgBoy, and I want to improve my drawing skills, I am currently 13, and don't take drawing c lasses, and I really want to be better. How is it plagiarism if I drew it on my own, and did not take the exact picture and take credit for it... I don't understand that at all.

You know, everyone has to start somewhere...

You could have done something other than that...like put him in another pose. Use *NgBoy's artwork as inspiration instead creating a copy of the drawing.

Here's some advice, if you're learning how to draw using another artist's drawing, try using that person's s.tyle and technique instead of reproducing their artwork.

To be honest, you have potential, but you need to start off on the right foot.

I see, well I just wanted to test out the right proportions, because I'm "meh" on that, so this has tought me more about it. I understand what you're saying, and next time I post a drawing, I'll be sure to be original.
