Why was there no mets in the All star game?

there also should be Wright or Beltrangamerbrad1
Beltran is not an allstar this year. Bad BA and only 13 HRs.
You can claim Wright should've gone over A. Ramirez, as a sub, but not over Chipper.
And there is only so many reserve spots open, and you have to include every team
Because none deserve it...maybe Wright, but the Cubs fans just came out in way more force this year. CrimzonTide
The fans vote for the starters. With Chipper batting .388, he deserves the starter role, and got it.
Wright may slip in as the DH.
is david ortiz a DH for the AL I thought he was injured and wasn't able to playgamerbrad1
He'll be there, but he won't play.

Ring_of_fireYeah, and there is no way you can convince me Fukudome and Soriano deserve to be starting in the outfield. And as for the final player, I'm pulling full out for Pat Burrell, being the Phillie fan I am.

I'll agree to that. That's what happens when the fans vote......
I'll agree to that. That's what happens when the fans vote...... Ring_of_fireFans shouldn't be allowed to vote. The AL team especially is a disgrace, it's essentialy a Yankees Red Sox combonation team. At least they got Hamilton right...

I agree and disagree. I think the AS game is about fun, and for the fans primarily.
With that said, with this stupid "Winner gets HOF Advatange" thing, it's too important to be left up to the fans

Meh. It's not that big a deal. In baseball, the home team only wins roughly 55% of the time.
Reyes didn't get in simply because He wasn't the best SS in the NL. Ramirez and Guzman are doing better than ReyesRing_of_fireGuzman? I disagree. he only has a slightly higher BA than Reyes. Hanley, yah, that's a given that he'll be the starting shortstop.

And how do they explain Tejada as a backup SS in there, Around .280s batting average with only 10 homers. (plus name in the Mitchell report)

Reyes should have been the backup IMO. I thought the fans would rebel against a player named in the Mitchell Report. I guess not.David Wright might get in, none of them really deserve it, but too many cubs, soto, soriano, etc dont deserve it.
The cubs fans spammed the vote obviously.
Go Phillies!!

Soriano isnt starting. infact he isnt playing. they wont let him risk hurting his hand more since is should be ready to start again after thebreak. and i think Fukudome does deserve it. He has been solid all year

Bauers-Twin
are you kidding Soto is leading many of the rookie standings in the NL, and Fukudome is in the top five in most of them too. Soriano is only going to support the team cause of his injury though. he isnt playing

Yep, the solution is simple: permit league officials to change the names that appear on the ballot. Don't just go with the Opening Day rosters. It's understandable if the paper ballots can't be changed, but there's no reason the online ones can't be tweaked. Allow the league to add the likes of Carlos Quentin

Also, the players need to get their act together. Jason Varitek? Seriously?

Even as a Red Sox fan I have to admit Varitek is a poor choice. Cube_of_MooNHe's hitting about .220. I would take basically any catcher in the AL over him...

Guzman is leading the league in SS BA. .313. 16 points higher than Reyes who's below .300, with a close OBP.
besides, Guzman is the lone Nats All Star, therefore, Reyes is out.
Even if the Nats had someone else, and Guzman was out, Theriot is more deserving than Reyes

it's him being "The heart of the team" non-sense
Exactly. Also, the players need to get their act together. Jason Varitek? Seriously?CrimzonTide
Obviously, Varitek has a reputation for bringing cookies and pie for his teammates. There's no other explanation for him being on the team.

I'm guessing its due to the fact that the Red Sox are popular, his name is recognizable, and that the crop of AL catchers is weak to begin with, not that Varitek is the best of them by any means.

And I would have thought the respect for Pudge would have bee just as great, even if his power numbers are non-existent.

Even this guy on ESPN agrees with me. :x He thinks Reyes over Tejada. But really though I don't trust ESPN analysts much at all. I guess we're just going to have to agree to disagree here. :P

well, I'll agree with you that Reyes deserved it far more than Tejada, and it is all a matter of opinion.
I'm just happy Chipper Jones got the nod at starting third base this year.
